With the absolutely dismal success rate for long term maintenance, I have no intention of ever stopping counting calories. Been doing it as part of my maintenance plan for two years now and will be doing it for the next 40+ years. That doesn't' mean I count every single thing, every single day though. For me it works well…

Yep, totally confident :) What is the basis of your confidence For example, is your confidence based on solid evidence? Yes, based on solid evidence. Since 2012 I've lost almost 60lbs and have been maintaining that loss for around 2 years now. Current Stats: -maintenance range: 120lbs-125lbs (started at 178ish) -bmi range:…

I applaud your willingness to explore the issue further-I need to as well, since I'm still very new to this whole macros thing :)

So why not just focus on upping your veggie and fruit intake, instead of making drastic cuts from your diet? It would be much easier, and more sustainable long term, to add things instead of arbitrarily cutting things out.

My experience was similar-when I fount out my glucose level was elevated my doctor told me to lose weight, but didn't give me any further instructions/restrictions. I lost the weight by focusing on eating at a weekly calorie deficit. Not only did I lose the weight, but I also got my glucose number into the normal range…

Nope, right there is your clue that it's a gimmicky plan.
-
If your goal is to lose poundage then you need to be eating at a calorie deficit. Weight loss is about calorie, math and eating at a calorie deficit. Everything else is secondary.
-
Maybe at first, but I don't think that's a reasonable expectation down the road. Remember you need to re-run your numbers every few pounds lost (every 5lbs is a good marker). You will be reducing the amount of calories you get to eat the further along you go. It's harder to maintain a large calorie deficit at that point.

PMS/time of month, sodium intake, new exercise/changing current exercise routine, digesting food, drinking fluids before weighing, taking a shower before weighing etc etc can all affect the scale, but are not actual gains.
-
Yep, my daughter is lactose intolerant and she can eat yogurt with no problems/doesn't have to take her pill.
-
Haven't read through the responses yet but I'm also 5ft, 6in and yeah I totally get where you're coming from. My original goal weight was 135lbs and when I hit it, instead of feeling elated and breaking out into the happy dance, I looked into the mirror and was like 'WTH, I hit my goal, why didn't I turn into a Victoria's…

Yeah, if you're not measuring then your logging isn't going to be accurate. However, there are other factors that will affect the scale that are aren't actual weight gain. And with the bounce you saw, obviously something else is going on :) PMS/time of month, sodium, new exercise/bumping up exercise intensity, digesting…

Yep, it's Friday :p

Every morning, since 2012. However, one of the things I've learned throughout this whole whacky process, is that the scale is just a tool. It has no power over me. I have absolutely no emotions attached to it-it's like my toothbrush or comb :) I wake up, use the bathroom, weight myself, enter the data into an app I use and…

OP your profile says you need to lose around 60lbs? That's close to what I've lost and I did it by eating at a weekly calorie deficit. Simple as that. I didn't cut out any of the foods that I liked, I just started eating less of them :)
-
For you maybe, but that's not true for everyone. I just got done with 15 minutes of playground body-weight strength training exercises, and that's all I've done today besides my normal day to day stuff. Tomorrow I'll walk for 2 miles, which takes around 20 minutes. That's plenty of extra activity for me and I'm in…

Uh what? :o I started out overweight and a pre-diabetic. Lost the weight (around 60lbs), normalized my glucose number in the process, and I've been successfully maintaining now for over two years. Current triglycerides number are a 49 btw. I lost the weight while still eating all the foods I enjoyed, including carb heavy…
-
Yep, I'm going to be starting this as well, though in my case I'm going to try to do it with progressive body-weight strength training, instead of heavy lifting :)

OP this thread might help you :) http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10177803/recomposition-maintaining-weight-while-losing-fat/p1

I lost the weight with NO exercise at all, just ate at a calorie deficit. I became interested in exercise as I started transitioning into maintenance but it progressed naturally and I've never forced it. I also go through periods where I don't feel like doing any, so I don't. I've been successfully maintaining for two…

I did alternate day intermittent fasting for my weight loss phase and that was a great process to go through, because I learned what real, true hunger was vs wanting to eat because of other reasons. When you go through days where you only eat 300-500 calories for a 24 hour period and experience what that's like, it really…

This. So this.
-
16:8IF refers to having an eating window of hours, fasting for 16 hours. 5:2IF refers to Dr. Michael Mosley's plan, which is an offshoot of Dr. James Johnson's alternate day IF program, and with 5:2 you eat two 500 calorie days, and then eat 5 days at around maintenance calories. And then with alternate day IF (also caled…

I didn't catch what your body weight was so I didn't run your numbers specifically. I was just comparing my 122lbs of girl weight to an assumption that a guy is going to weigh more than me, therefore your .45 per pound of bodyweight, would equal a higher number.
-
Yep, love Subway's website-you enter in what you're getting and it breaks it all down for you :)
-
Lol :p Yeah, what I experienced isn't going to specifically be the case for you :) But, just be cautious with eating too low fat, that's what's I've (clumsily) been trying to get across :)
-
I'm not who you're quoting but here's my little anecdotal story-a few years ago I did a vegetarian experiment and along with that I went pretty low fat (was focusing on a whole foods diet with lots of veggies, whole grains etc). A bit into it I lost my period and my hair started falling out. Went to my doctor and after…

Been a daily weigher since 2012 and will continue to do so for the next 40+ years :)
