  • I agree here. I have been murdering natural nut butters over the last few months and I can't stop. Almond, cashew, peanut, etc. the key is that they are all 100% pure and the ONLY ingredient is the nuts. I make my own nut butters in our ninja blender too. Eat as much as your body and calorie goals can handle. I understand…
  • Nah, that's a myth. I'd argue that a hi sugar meal right before bed is probably worse than some protein or fat before bed but sugar is worse ANYTIME versus healthier options. I always chow at night. Usually it's some natural nut butter of whatever type I have. I glob it down and then go to bed without being hungry.
  • Walking is a terrific overall exercise. The key is to take long walks and try to keep the pace reasonably brisk. Do that, and you get many of the same benefits as running without the joint wear and other issues. Walking after strength training is a great way to keep that blood flowing and feed those muscles you just worked!

  • Green and Blacks 85% is da bomb. Ghiradelli 86% midnight reserve is also wonderful. I eat a lot of the stuff. Doesn't cause me any issues. It's fairly low sugar and is actually good for you. The fat content is inconsequential and shouldn't bother anyone. Eat dark chocolate and be happy. :)
  • Could be a case of tennis elbow. I suffered through this and daily stretches really helped along with taking it easy for a short period. You can google what stretches to do but they are easy and seem effective. It's possible the weight is also too much. You should be able to do about 8-12 reps with the proper weight and…
  • Totally with ya, man. I'm 44 years old and in the best shape of my life. I would NEVER go back to being a fat toad. I'm happier, healthier, and everything is simply better being fit. Period. This dad bod thing is just a way for lazy folks and excuse makers to stay shaped like a big egg. As far as time goes...."I don't have…
  • Rowing works great too and unlike the other options it has a strength and muscle building/saving aspect built into it. Of course you need access to a rowing machine or you'd need to buy one. We have a water rower and it gives you an epic workout without messing with your joints or any of that.
  • Nope. As others have clearly stated...no such thing. It's junk science combined with bro science combined with snake oil. There is only ONE sure way to burn fat: exercise hard and be mindful of your diet. Doesn't mean you need to starve yourself or anything drastic. But ya gotta be reasonable about it. The harder you work…
  • Lean meats are really the most complete way to get protein in a diet. And, they are also tasty and can be made a zillion ways too. Nuts, beans, dairy, and all that does work but that'll get old quick. protein powder is a great supplement but shouldnt be counted on as a main protein source. Why are you looking to cut down…
  • Its "simple" in theory but can be hard to actually get it right. IMO, too much emphasis is placed on the diet part and in my own experience your exercise intensity level and frequency plays a HUGE roll in how your results will be. I know the arguments that you cant "out-exercise" a crappy diet and while I agree with that…
  • I feel that red meat has gotten a bad rap over the years, much like eggs have. Turns out that BOTH are really good for you if you eat the right cuts and dont go crazy. Beef/whatever red meat is loaded with B vitamins, complete proteins, and other good stuff that you just aint getting from steamed cauliflower. And, it…

  • 10% carbs - thats brutal. Like a handful of raw peas and yer DONE! LOL. Just be careful with a diet like that. Restricting too much of any macronutrient is iffy. The "keto" craze has its drawbacks too. My biggest problem is what the hell can you eat other than strictly meat and eggs?
  • Yep - both have benefits. Walking is less stressful on the body and more relaxing. You just have to do it longer to get the real benefits. Running obviously burns more calories(same time performed) and does more for your cardio-vascular system. Few times a week for each is perfect, IMO. You get the benefits of both without…

  • We only use Gold Standard Natural Vanilla and love it. It has NO weird aftertaste, a small ingredients list, good nutrition numbers, and mixes very well. It has a subtle yet appreciable vanilla flavor that just works. Its the only one of any protein powders we've had any luck with.
  • Geesh. How again do we know exactly what cavemen from the paleozoic era were eating? Oh yeah - they posted it on facebook and Twitter. My bad. ;) For real - ANY diet that basically elminates food groups is stupid. Sorry folks. Whatever works for ya, works for ya. But, its quite obvious that the millions of people who have…
  • I don't mind paying for software or apps because I understand that plenty of time and effort goes into creating software. It's not free, even though people seem to think it magically creates itself while we are all asleep. :/ But, I do NOT like monthly subscriptions. I'd prefer to just pay a fair, one time fee and "own"…
  • You don't even need a bench. I started without one. Presses and other exercises can be done on the floor. You don't get quite the range of motion but it still works the muscles. It'll also be safer if you are new to lifting since you can't overextend your shoulders or whatever. Just a set of dumbells is perfectly fine.…
  • Great to hear you are considering weight training to help your goals out. My wife has recently started and shes seeing results, slowly but surely! What she does is a full-body circuit 3 times a week. We do NOT have any fancy equipment. Just a very basic bench & a bunch of dumbbells. Thats it. Here is what her routine looks…
  • My protein powder works great in shakes & even a pie but FORGET pancakes! Ive tried a zillion recipes and every one of the claimed that the pancakes came out so good that you'd swear you were eating a cheat meal. Yeah right. Total disaster everytime. Flat, lifeless, odd taste, etc, etc. YUK! Just eat pancakes made using a…
  • Most cereal bars Ive seen have brutal amounts of sugar in them along with an ingredients list thats like a small novel - meaning way too much "stuff" in them. They *appear* healthy and the makers of the bars tout them as such but when you check the "numbers" they come out ugly. Caveat Emptor with those things. Sucks too…

  • What I do is accept the fact that sometimes you WILL be eating a little "worse" than usual. Then, I try and mitigate the "badness" of the meal by making at least some good choices. Like skipping french fries & haveing a side veggie instead. Choosing a main menu item thats not as bad as a greasy, fried item. Things like…
  • Ive rethought my reply after making my own various nut butters in our Ninja blender. Screw it. Eat all you want, just realize that you have to fit it in your calorie goals or at least accept that it'll take extra work that day to use those calories. One thing is for sure - 2 lousy tablespoons isnt anywhere NEAR enough of a…
  • Yeah, its a tough thing to stick with and its arguably not sustainable long term. Eating higher-quality fats is OK but super low carbs has its issues. Just track how you feel and tread carefully.

  • Lets qualify that further - its a LOT harder to do it just through diet. Every little bite you take has to be accounted for. That gets lame after a while. Exercise does wonders for metabolism, body chemistry(shedding fat/preserving muscle), and overall health. Sure, the kitchen is where it mainlyy happens but IMO and in my…
  • I used to be very heavy and although diet is a the main piece of the puzzle, my rigorous cardio routine helped immensely too. It's VERY hard to shed a lot of weight through just diet, IMO. So I wouldn't call exercise just for "other fitness goals". It's very much for fat loss and overall weight reduction.
  • I'm guy #2 here I guess then, lol. I use kettle bells quite often in my strength training routine but the swing is the main exercise. It gets my heart rate freeging screaming....moreso than running or cycling ever could. Only hard rowing has the same effect but the kettle bell swing is a torture test for the body.
  • The official/proper way to do it is to get a caliper and take certain measurements of certain areas of the body. Or, a tape measure will give you a ballpark figure. I believe for men its your waist size, wrist size and maybe chest size? Then, you put in your weight in lbs along with height. Google it for more info but…

  • Absolutely. For most guys the lower belly region is the last place that fat gets burned. And it's the first place that fat gets stored. I'm at my ideal weight and even have a few pounds to gain but damnit.... It keeps me up at night thinking about how any excess calories will just go to my damn belly versus lean muscle.…
  • Yes - this makes sense. I always try to eat a preworkout meal and then something protein heavy afterwards. Not huge meals but enough to fuel a workout. I can NOT workout or do any cardio when fasted. I feel sick!
  • The belly fat IS the major sticking point since any "fat" weight I do gain gets conveniently shoved right there. Damnit! So, Im going to move extra slow with this and maybe add 100 cals a day just to test the waters. Why cant my stupid body store fat on like...my ankles or something? Just so hard to find that…
