  • Not a usual Saturday morning for me, but if you take a look at the Willamette River (I see you're in the PDX metro area) you'll see why rowing this morning was not a good plan ;) It's been so fast this week. I had a good workout on the bike inside though :)
  • There are quite a number of tuna burger recipes online, including ones with copious amounts of comments and/or reviews. And yes it looks like that's mostly arugula though there are some other leafy greens in there as well (see the top left hand corner of the plate).
  • How would you personally go about designing a research methodology for a longitudinal study of the health effects of what people are eating (assuming that you want to attract a very large number of participants)? Of course, take into account the cost that would be involved in providing a meal kits to hundreds of thousands…
  • You're clearly missing out (or something...). My t-shirt is saturated with sweat when I erg and I know plenty of people who sweat more than I do. It's not really an issue of how hard you're working so much as individual variation.
  • I just wanted to respond to this by saying that while there are quite a lot of antidepressants on the market, that doesn't mean that it is at all easy to find one that works for you. It still is a manner of, "However, if, for example, you are bipolar depression and have tried many medications and this is the only one that…

  • Or find a good physical therapist, be clear about what your goals are, and do the work. I can't have been all that lucky to have done so more times than not. I'd rather a good physical therapist than go it my own and injure myself. There are also seemingly a lot of PTs who specialize working with athletes. In my…
  • There was a Serious Eats post a while ago with what I think are some pretty good ideas: https://www.seriouseats.com/2014/09/diy-instant-noodle-cups-food-lab.html
  • It would also probably taste better the second day as well. The whole stews tasting better the second day thing. Now I really want oxtail.
  • A little over half an hour of a pilates video (classical mat).
  • And to expand on this a tad, most phones don't support ANT+ without a dongle. The more recent exceptions being a number of the Samsung Galaxy phones. You can see if your device is compatible here. Given that more and more devices that broadcast ANT+ are also broadcasting Bluetooth, I now lean towards sensors that support…
  • A smart trainer is a device that you hook your bike up to (real bike) that provides resistance, measures power (in watts - typically pretty accurately +/- 2% at most new), can be set to hold your power at a specific wattage, and most of them can also be wirelessly connected to programs like Zwift, TrainerRoad, and…
  • While some PTs might not know about gym routines (all of mine have, but almost all of my PTs have been athletes and most of mine have worked extensively with elite athletes), they do know more about anatomy and physiology than the vast majority of people.
  • I was going to suggest Concept2's skierg, but that doesn't fit your foot plate type of thing, which I'm assuming is akin to a NordicTrack skier. I does have a very small footprint though. I do remember really enjoying my mom's NordicTrack when I was a child, but I was also a child so I can't really give you a review other…
  • When I'm on my bike indoors on the trainer I'll watch, among other things, GCN, GTN, sometimes GMBN, documentaries, and videos on Bon Appetit's Youtube channel. I also will sometimes watch bike races, but my current DVR/cable box causes major interference with my power meter when it's on, so I'll only really watch things…
  • Try your local Asian grocery store. I've been able to find them easily at every average to large sized East Asian grocery store I've gone to. I am all for actual butchers, trust me I am, but you don't necessarily have to go to one to find oxtails. @Safari_Gal_ typically use caribbean style recipes. This one from the…
  • This would be funny if it wasn't sad. Funny because if you do actually look at various pictures of people who are impoverished and doing massive amounts of physical labor you can find plenty of pictures of people who do in fact have six packs. You'll also see very muscular children when when you look at child laborers who…
  • Early morning: An hour of TrainerRoad with Zwift in the background. Zwift was on the laptop and TR was on my phone controlling my smart trainer. Later morning (8am): 50 min of yoga
  • This, like many things, is a case of not believing everything you see/read/hear on the internet (or off the internet for that matter).
  • Agreed. Heck the weight of the bar itself is dramatically different.
  • Like was said, this would be a good question for your PT (physical therapist). I would ask one of mine but I don't have another appointment until next month. I would note that there are times my PTs will say not to do an exercise every day but rather something like three days a week. Not all PT is the same, which I suspect…
  • Workout number 2: ramp test on TrainerRoad. FTP is up up 3 watts from the last time I took it. I suspect I could have maybe gone harder, maybe. Thanks to erging, my legs gave out before my lungs did and my max HR for the test was only 171. This is why I can't rely on cycling as a replacement for erging when I have to do…
  • Grow your own. Depending on where you live you could grow it in the ground and not worry about the weather getting too cold. It also can be grown indoors.
  • I'm not judging your decisions because I certainly have my own, "ugh I don't like a large large number of things that this company is doing, but also...". That said, do know that even when using the free version of MFP, you're still supporting Under Armor.
  • Sculling - 10.6km. My right hand decided that slipping down the oar handle was totally in style. Needless to say, I was not amused.
  • A Peruvian chicken recipe from the NYTimes https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/1018974-peruvian-roasted-chicken-with-spicy-cilantro-sauce . I only used half of a chicken because I am one person and I didn't add the feta to the sauce. I ate it along with a baked sweet potato - the sauce also tastes very good on that…
  • Salt. Stop under salting your food (unless you have a medical reason to avoid limit your salt intake). I can think of other ingredients, but the one that crosses almost every boundary is salt (though I don't say, put salt in my applesauce).
  • I echo the power meter answer. For the Concept 2 rowing machine, use the calorie calculator on their website (which requires knowing the stats from the workout - find them in the memory area). While I almost never use their BikeErg, I really don't trust the calorie estimate for that.
  • If you're a professional boxer (or a professional athlete of any type), you have both a better idea of your workouts/competitions and of what does and doesn't work for you than all of us, thus you are more able to figure out what you should eat/drink than an of us. Never mind that this is way above our collective pay grade.
  • I think taking care of an infant counts as a workout.
  • Morning erg: 4x12min/2min rest slow rates (nothing higher than 20spm)
