  • Hey I'm just trying to set up my new fitbit charge hr. I think I've synced it. But how will that change the way I should use myfitnesspal? I'm really confused. Do I still manually add extra excersise calories? Can anyone tell me the basics if what I need to know? Thank you x
  • I wondered this as well. When people say eat enough to fuel the workouts, what does that mean? I'm trying to lose a lot of weight. I've lost approx. 2 stones/30 lbs so far by eating approx. 1300 calories a day. I'm female, 39, 5'4", and CW is approx 15 stone 5/215 lbs. I've still got approx. 90 lbs to lose, so I presume I…
  • Thank you. I chose this gym because it is convenient location wise, affordable, had classes late enough to be an option for me (my gym time being between 8 and 10 pm in the week due to work and childcare), has a pool which is free for us to take our little boy to, activities he can take part in on weekends and in holidays.…
  • Lol yes he is male but good point. My cousin is a personal trainer and a boxing instructor but she is just too far away otherwise I'd have likely booked with her. What are goblet squats-actually I will Google it, thanks for that and the other suggestions. And I have emailed the gym manager about whether they've any plans…
  • I'm not sure what you mean? Tonight was my first session with him so when I posted this morning I wouldn't have known if I trust him or not. As far as I know he is totally qualified. My issue wasn't about a lack of trust in his professionalism, but was more about me feeling a little lost after getting it in my head that I…
  • Lol yes good starting advice. Tell him what I want! I think my mind went from one extreme to the other when I realised there isn't a power rack. I had Stronglifts as a goal and when I realised maybe that programme wasn't possible (because unless I'm mistaken the programme calls for a power rack as opposed to a smith…
  • By the way I am a beginner. Female. 39. Started at 17 stone 9 in January and now 15 stone 3. Eating at a deficit 1400 ish calories a day. Want to be 9 stone ish. Want to get stronger and when the fat is gone want to have muscle. I now do various fitness classes, circuits, Boxfit, and Insanity. I have gradually buolt up to…
  • Thanks all. I have read on here that it's good to start a progressive weights programme from the outset. I didn't realise I should perfect bodyweight excersises first. I guess I will keep doing my various classes. I thought perhaps doing the weight training would help me be stronger for my classes!
  • Yes. This. It takes me a few weeks to lose a few pounds but without even trying hubby suddenly drops 10 lbs. Not fair!
  • Thanks all. As I said my diet is healthy, I'm eating at a reasonable calorie deficit and losing weight well (19 lbs in 6 weeks). I want to do fitness for my overall health. I want to be stronger and more flexible. I want to be able to do full push ups or proper planking or unaided sit ups or balanced lunges. When I've lost…
  • Thanks. I'm doing well with the weight loss and I'm happy with my diet. I guess I should rephrase my question......I want to increase my strength and fitness level. But currently I'm 219 lbs and really unfit. What should I be focusing on when I'm at the gym?
  • Thank you. All sorted now.
  • Hi everyone, Thanks for all the ideas and suggestions to go through. I really appreciate the input.
  • Hi thank you. So by weights is it ok to use the weight machines? What are body weight exercises? And I know what HIIT stands for but what would be an example of this? Is it what I did with the cycle?
  • With my weight gain I've gone from a 32F (when I weighed only 110 lbs or 7 stones 11) to a 38 K (at 238 lbs or 17 stones). I hope to God I go down some bra sizes as I lose weight. In any case I've decided my grand reward for reaching my weight loss goal and for turning 40 in approx 1.5 years is to have a breast…
  • Thanks everyone!

  • For people who do eat nuts as part of their diet, could you please tell me the benefits and also maybe suggest what nuts and what quantity?

  • Thanks everyone. I am just pleased that I am going to the gym at all. I'm sure that with time my stamina will build up so that I can actually jog on the treadmill (not able to do that yet) or do longer or a higher level on the eliptical. It's good to know I don't have to feel like a failure for not being out of breath.
  • I picked 126 lbs (9 stones) but I'd love 119 (8 and a 1/2 ) and be utterly over the moon with 112 (8 stones). I picked my goal weight because it matches with what I weighed when I looked and felt my best. I've got like 120 lbs to lose to get to goal so it will be a while for me to get there. That's ok with me.
  • Great thanks
  • Hi just curious....being a gym newbie, what is meant here when people are talking about hitting the weights? Do you mean free weights or the weight/resistance machines? Also, what is meant by "lifting heavy" and "HIIT"?
  • Lol. Oh gosh I miss it so much it's almost enough to make me move back! My Dad (in Canada) swears by McDonald's coffee and won't drink Timmies. I on the other hand used to knock back 3 Extra Large Triple Triples a day (which I now fully accept was obscene!)
  • Oops made an error...can't quote properly lol
  • Hi all, OP here again. I can't tell you how helpful it has been to read and consider all the different posts and the variety of opinions and advice. As I said previously I am only a couple weeks in to this journey, so I really value the experience of people who've been at this longer than me. Interestingly there are people…
  • It's me the OP again. Just wanted to say my Week 2 weigh in results from just now are that I lost 1 and 3/4 pounds, so I'm right on track. My goal this week is to make it to the gym 3 times.
  • I'm the OP and just want to say thanks for all the replies.....really interesting points of views to consider. As I said in my original al post, I'm not hungry on my 1200 calories and it feels good to finally be in control of my eating. Having gained 5 stone in 15 months after going on to a new medication where increased…
  • Hi all, thanks for the replies. As for 1200 I'm going by what MFP calculated for 2 lbs a week loss. I am 38, female, 5'4", and started 2 weeks ago at 17 stones or 238 lbs. I don't usually excersise, though I started at the gym today and am taking it slowly building up my fitness. I know that once I weigh less I shouldn't…
  • Hi. I'm also on medication for mental health. I can relate totally to what you describe. I have gained 5 stones in 15 months since going on the meds. My appetite was totally out of control. I would eat 6 slices of buttery toast as a snack, crisps and biscuits and giant fruit and nut bars also as snacks, sweets, massive…
  • I experienced the sugar free gummi bear cleanse by complete accident. Grabbed a bag of sweets from the pick a mix without reading the label. Munched on said sweets all morning at my desk at work. The result was so disasterous but yes I did lose weight that day I'm sure lol
  • Well I did it! I made it through the door and worked out to the best of my current ability. I did 20 minutes walking on the treadmill at a fast pace and 10 minutes on the cross trainer. I also did stretches and some stomach crunches. I definitely felt the fact I was working out but it didn't kill me. In fact I felt so…
