Is it okay to work out 6 days a week? To specify, 3 of those days would be heavy lifting (5x5 StrongLifts) followed by some accessory exercises using weights. One of the other days would be mainly cardio for an hour (using some free weights), another day would be mainly cardio for 30 mins and abs, and the last day would be abs.

As long as you're fuelling it adequately it should be fine. You can always ditch the last abs day if you need an extra rest day.

As long as you're eating enough and getting the proper nutrients to support the workouts and don't feel like you're straining your body, have at it!

6 days a week is fine. I suppose even 7 if you're doing all different body parts every day. Lots of people are active on "rest" days but still active enough to call it exercise by many people's standards. Just fuel your body and listen when it's telling you to rest- either mentally or physically.

One can workout every day if the proper program is utilized by the individual.

    Does stronglifts programing suggest to?

I'm currently doing 4 days ( phul) but used to work out six days. My advice would be to properly fuel your workouts. Make sure your eating enough.
    Also listen to your body.

I work out approximately 10 days and then have a rest day. I have been doing this for a long time with no problem. But I do not do the same thing every day. I cross exercise regularly. Sleep is equally important to proper nutrition. Finally, as already mentioned, listen to your body and do not ignore aches and pain.

I wondered this as well. When people say eat enough to fuel the workouts, what does that mean? I'm trying to lose a lot of weight. I've lost approx. 2 stones/30 lbs so far by eating approx. 1300 calories a day. I'm female, 39, 5'4", and CW is approx 15 stone 5/215 lbs. I've still got approx. 90 lbs to lose, so I presume I have to keep eating at a deficit to continue to lose weight, even though Ive started going to the gym 5 or 6 times a week.

Sounds like a very reasonable schedule as the days you do the cardio - depending on the intensity - could be nice recovery for the 5 x 5 SL's.

Many of us do active recovery workouts once or twice a week as we work out 6 or 7 days a week. It's all about balance and allowing your body to get the necessary recovery between the harder workouts. If you pepper the easier, more recovery type exercises on days between the more difficult - your body will be fine.

Listen to your body. It will tell you when it needs more rest. That would be a good day to go for a relaxing 20-30 minute walk and call it a day - or skip any kind of a work out.

Depends on ur body and what u do. I do 3 heavy gym days a week of the basics (squat, deads, miles press, bench pullups) then 3 other days of outside activity. Nutrition is key no matter what program ur on. For me if I'm in the gym to much I get bored, plateau or start tearing up joints. I really enjoy tactical strength training or functional strength training.

I workout six days a week, sometimes seven. I'm a big believer in "active rest." Sometimes day seven is walking/casual hiking with friends. I'm good!
