A bad day is the day you don't log. As long as you are trying to keep track of what you put in your mouth, that's a success. Just don't be the person who goes over, is too ashamed to log it but decides that they will start over with a new diet the next day. Then they wait a month, start over for a week and repeat the…

Dieting can be very emotionally unpleasant- it might be a good idea to find someone in real life to talk to. Over eaters anonymous is one support group I know of but I'm sure there are many others. The truth is that if losing weight was as easy as counting calories we would all be skinny. People have reasons to hold onto…

It's probably best to do your own research on this- but I think Biosil is worth the money, especially for the possible bone density effects. I have used it for about 3 months and it does seem like my skin, hair and nails have improved but the change is subtle and it's hard to be certain. Right now, I'm using the liquid…

Remember that health is the root of all beauty- both in mind, body and spirit. (On a practical note, I noticed some sagginess when I lost weight initially too (mostly on my thighs/derrière) but after a year of maintaining this has mostly gone away. You may find that your sagginess improves slowly over time too. Finally, I…

No- I just know because I've been tracking my calories so long. It's not really a problem- I've adjusted my intake and have maintained my target weight for almost a year now. It may have something to do with being part native american. As far as weighing food- I did when I started counting calories a couple years ago. Now,…

Aww...now I feel like a freak of nature for having a low metabolism relative to other people. I don't think I have a medical condition but my mother seems to have it too so it may be genetic. I'm dreading what it is going to be like after menopause...

Hmm... If you mean +/- 300 calories a day that seems like a big variance. For setting a weight loss goal, it would be best to know within ~100 calories what your actual burn rate is.

One of my favorites for a late night snack are the reduced fat Townhouse crackers. They are exactly 10 calories each which makes them easy to figure in to my totals. The downside is that they are a processed carb- but everything in moderation.

Just wanted to comment a little on the main subject. Metabolism can vary dramatically from person to person. It's a good idea to set your own goal based on your actual experience once you have been tracking and dieting awhile. The calculators are just a place to start. In my own experience, I need about 1500 calories to…

5'2", 109.5 lbs (very close to synacious) and I usually wear a size 4, sometimes a 6 in pants since I'm pear-shaped.

Frankly- I almost never close my diary since there is no reason to. That way, if I have a midnight snack at 11:30 pm I can still add it as part of that day. You may be overthinking this- there is nothing wrong with varying your intake. Going by the weekly average calories makes the most sense.

Haha- I tried the licorice root because: 1. I was desperate and 2. It's in food so if it was toxic or had terrible side effects we would know by now. The Aloe Vera juice really helps too. Nobody seems to know exactly how it works- but it does. The more energy/less hungry thing has been going on for about two weeks now…

It's still important to log your food. It doesn't have to be perfect- just an honest, best guess. Tracking food creates a record and an awareness of what you eat. It's an important habit to maintain and it works with all the other strategies that have been mentioned too.
-
This also sounds really good- looks like I will have several new things to try this week :)

I think my calories are fine- hunger is just a side effect of dieting :( Also- I went out to eat with my parents and ate lunch at a greasy spoon diner. I tried to order something small but still ended up eating 2/3 of my calories before 1 pm. That is something I will need to avoid in the future- it's hard to just get…

This stuff looks amazing- I am definitely going to try it!

My solution to these problems- I just log it. It doesn't matter if it's coffee or cheese samples I treat it the same way. I try to stay under my calories but if I go over every once in a while I don't lose any sleep about it. All food is the same- it doesn't matter if it's eaten with family or friends or not. Being on a…

You need to let them know what you are trying to do and why. Most likely they will respect it and support you. On the other hand, if they refuse to acknowledge that you are trying to change it may be because they don't want to face the fact that they need to change too.

I wasn't trying to chastise just you, actually. It just seemed like the thread was starting to go off topic.
-
Umm...I was going to be polite and ignore this whole conversation but....if you want to talk about low carb diets you should make a thread for that.

Thanks for the breakfast advice everyone! This is something I will be paying much more attention to. The good news is that whatever happened seems to be over now. I've been eating ever few hours and taking it easy and feel fine now. Might even try to get back to the gym tomorrow (with snacks, of course).

Haha- not pregnant. In fact, I just started my period. Not sure if that was a factor or not. As far as being dehydrated- I wasn't. I had a big cup of tea about 30 min before this happened. After doing more research I'm wondering if it was the vasovagal syncope someone mentioned earlier.
-
Yes- this is what I'm doing now. Also got some hard candies to put in my purse for emergencies. My new mantra- always keep a snack on hand! Really hope that this was a one-time thing.

Not sure exactly what happened- 71 isn't considered a low blood sugar number. Yet I was on the floor, sweating profusely and very disoriented. I was told that I was as white as a sheet and that my eyes were dilated. My understanding is that these were symptoms of low sugar but I'm still very confused about it. Especially…

I told them- they said I might get in earlier if there is a cancellation. I'm not sure what to do about it other than wait- this is what "managed care" is like unfortunately.

^^ this ^^ also this It's hard to say for sure, but there may be some weakness in your kinetic chain. It's important to make sure all the muscles in your legs, hips and back (including the small balance muscles) are strong and supporting you. These kinds of problems seem to get worse as you age too (at least they did for…

Most mornings, I eat muesli with skim milk and blueberries. The muesli I get (Seitenbacher) has no added sugar and lots of nuts with the oats. It does have raisins, so if you can't have sugar at all that might not work. Its super tasty though and I like that the grains are uncooked and minimally processed.

Lol- yeah, I know. I'm in limbo because I'm trying to transition from losing to maintaining. Slowly increasing my calories but don't want to do it too fast.
-
Now in weight-loss limbo- at 111 but my goal weight is 110. So close, but I would like to lose that last pound. Truth- I drink the shakes partially because I like them and partially because I'm too busy/lazy to cook real food. Thankfully, I don't get any "wind" from them either, lol. It's weird- but I really crave protein.…
