  • I wear a HRM while riding every day. I expend approx 350 to 425 in an hour. I am in the zone for 45 out of the 60 minutes. I don't count the extra things I do like tacking up, bathing, cleaning etc. and I only eat back half of the exercise calories. I've lost 40 lbs in 4 months. This is the only exercise I do and I do it 5…
  • Right! I actually love salad works but if I'm going to eat 1100 c in going to have pizza. Lol. I just think it's crappie of them to not be honest in what they serve. I knew it was too good to be true
  • Yup. My thoughts too especially for a place like SW
  • That sounds more accurate is just funny how different the reported calories are from the actual calories. 450 to 950 is a big difference. They list the dressing at 1 container 150cal. Clearly 1 container is not 1oz. My entire office was counting on the Web site being accurate I knew it sounded and tasted to good to be true.
  • Sorry I was really busy and couldn't reply I ordered the salad deconstructed and weighted each ingredient. I did this at work and didn't bring the figures home with me so I'll have to estimate what they were. 4.5 oz romaine iceburg mix 65g swiss cheese 55 g turkey 86g green goddess dressing (this is the amount in one small…
  • Oh pasta was on the ingredients list too
  • I just never realized how many calories were in the foods that I was eating. I mean I knew they weren't healthy but never knew just how fattening they were. 4 girls in my office are all doing MFP and we've lost almost 75 lbs in 6 weeks! We love to sit around and talk about the things we want or used to eat but none of us…
  • Sorry the second link was just the search. Here is the article http://www.horsecollaborative.com/how-does-horseback-riding-compare-to-other-workouts/
  • For anyone who cares, I came across these. No idea of the accuracy but I thought I'd share. http://www.horsecollaborative.com/calorie-count-what-did-you-really-burn-at-the-barn-today/ https://www.google.com/search?q=how+does+horseback+riding+compare+to+other+workouts&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
  • No. Not competitively. Dirt bikes in the woods.
  • I've ridden motorcycles it's not the same. Holding on with your arms/hands is not the same as using your center of gravity/ balance as your only means of staying mounted. The only similarity is that you are sitting astride. Motorcycles also don't have a mind of their own. Can't say the same for bikes or chairs.
  • Ok. I'm just going to thank those of you who contributed in a constructive way and ignore the guy who said it's the same as sitting in a chair. Pretty funny to hear people speak of something they know nothing of. I've only just started tracking 2 weeks ago. Almost 10lbs down since I've started. I'm not hungry and I feel…
  • Also, I wanted to add.....I'm not trying to argue until I win. I'm just trying to understand.
  • I'm well aware of why there aren't heavy people at the top of the sport and yes....1 is the welfare of the horse and to obtain optimal results and 2 the physical demands keep people thin. I don't think I was trying to compare riding to steady cardio but I do believe there is def cardio involved for a portion of the ride…
  • I did the calculator too and it gave me 700 an hr but my HRM is only clocking 500. Not sure how accurate either are. Today I swam for 20 min after riding. I was no where near as winded or as tired from swimming as I am from riding. Someone above stated about that bc they don't feel I'm supporting my own weight that it's…
  • Thanks everyone for the feedback but it looks like I'm in the same position I was at the beginning. No. I try not to eat back the calories but I kind of like to know I have them if I want to have a beer/wine whatever. Because I need to give my horse a day or two off was week I like to know what I stand with weekly…
  • No I don't think I burn a TON I think I burn 500 - TEE for that hour. I also feel like I''m burning before I ride and after and I don't even consider them. The other question I have is.....there are many people who ride 5-10 horses a day. While most of them are a healthy weight what must they be eating to counter balance…
  • Ok Thanks everyone. It just didn't make sense to me to not count it. There really isn't much more I can do in the day workout wise besides walk. I really am tired after riding. Maybe when I drop some weight I'll have more energy to do more but right now I'm just concentrating on eating healthy and getting those rides in.…
  • Yes. Monkey Mel I think that's what they mean too but not sure I understand. I do understand that what I do is more taxing on beginners than it is on me but I think the HRM should still be a good indicator of a good work out....right?
  • No I didn't count it when I signed up.
  • People are telling me my body is used to the work so it's not really counting as exercise. I just don't understand that I don't ride like you may think if you were to rent a horse and go on a trail ride and everyone stays in a line walking. I competitively and at a high level so it's constant muscle contraction and release…
  • I ride upper level dressage. It's a LOT of work staying with a 1500lb animal and looking like I'm sitting still. They bounce you all around and you must constantly be constricting your muscles to stay with them and not bounce. Dressage is a lot different than western and hunt seat. It's constant body control.
  • Wow. Thanks for the great advise. I'm going to print this out. So many times all I can think about is what can I have and what can't I have and I never stop to think about the journey I'm on and the goals I've set for myself. I need to stay focused. Thank you.
  • I don't mean to hijack but since so many of you have the same recommendation.....if you want it, make room for it and eat it but how do you control yourselves? If I were to have a piece of pizza for dinner I think that would lead to two. Or if I have a brownie for dessert I know that would lead to more picking later in the…
