  • I had the opposite experience; nearly everyone who mentioned my weight loss was a woman (I'm female). After a few months they get used to "the new you" and all the comments stop.
  • That was my solution. I have at least 8 pair of leggings and about as many sport bras and tops. It's not so much washing the stuff as the fact that it needs to be hung up to dry rather than tossed in the dryer.
  • This struggle is real! Now that I'm at goal I cannot find any pants other than jeans smaller than a size 6. And because size 6 is vanity sizing most of the time, they are huge. I'm 59; shopping at teen stores is not in my future. Add to that the fact that I live in a rural area with hardly any stores and ugh.
  • I'm struggling, too, after being so ecstatic at not just reaching goal but losing two more pounds afterwards (last September). I'm up 5 pounds from that (which puts me at the limit of my maintenance range) and I'm having the hardest time getting my head back in the game. I even have a goal! (Lose 2 pounds by the end of…
  • Have you had labs done and a doctor visit to interpret them? in other words, do you have indications of any health issues from bloodwork? Like high cholesterol, high blood sugar, etc.? If not, and you’re eating fried food/fast food in moderation, I wouldn’t worry too much. On the other hand, only you can answer the…
  • There have actually been numerous studies and a lot of research that links alcohol to health issues, particularly if you have been drinking a lot/frequently for a long time. Moderation is the key, as it is for almost all things.
  • I needed two molars extracted and was advised to eat a “soft” diet after the surgery. I couldn’t open my jaws to chew anything for almost a week. In addition to the foods you already mentioned, I ate baked cod and salmon, protein shakes (made with water), oatmeal, baked/mashed sweet potatoes, bananas, and canned…
  • In 2018 my total cholesterol was 144, well within normal limits. In 2019 I began eating a lot of eggs to get enough protein while losing weight...I probably had 6-10 eggs a week for 8 months, up from 0-3 a week before that. My bloodwork in Oct 2019 showed my cholesterol was over 200. And I weighed 123. The rest of my diet…
  • Veggie but not vegan; a cup of Heritage Flakes cereal and a single-serve container of Oikos Triple Zero Greek yogurt, mixed together with a bit of sweetener. Or oatmeal with oat bran, chia seeds, flaxseed and/or nuts for additional protein. I sometimes skip the chia seeds and nuts and mix in Protein 4 Oats (a Pescience…
  • I had to get into the mindset that I would eventually achieve my goal as long as I didn’t give up. I was eating in a way that was healthy and sustainable long-term, so if I just kept it up, I knew I would see the results I wanted, even if it took a long time. I had plenty of setbacks; days I would go over calories because…
  • My “ah-ha” moment came several years ago. It was based purely on looks and vanity. I had a nice figure my whole life and have always been active, but the weight began creeping up when I hit my mid 40s. I went up two clothing sizes at 45 but rationalized it as something that was just bound to happen as I neared menopause.…
  • Thanks! It’s been a process of a few years. I lost 30 pounds several years ago; took me 9 or 10 months. Then over the course of the next couple of years I gained 10 of that back. I lived at 140 pounds for another 2-3 years with no tracking or logging, just tried to eat moderately and keep up the exercise. I was “okay” at…
  • With all those multiple health challenges, have you considered that weight loss is something you actually have control over? You have already made a GREAT start. Not that it’s easy, and a lot of people struggle with cravings and “comfort” eating (me included). Know that we are rooting for you and that this community is…
  • I started at 161.5 and went down to 120. This pic at the gym is at 123. I'm 5' 4.5"
  • I’m hearing a lot of excuses in there. I like the suggestion of keeping lower-cal, healthy items on hand to just throw in the oven or microwave when you need quick and easy. This can include stuff you cook once a week and freeze, or ready-made frozen meals. Why are you so exhausted after work? Are you eating enough during…
  • Why are they yelling at you to eat? Do they want you to eat the Chipotle specifically, or do they think you are not eating enough in general? ARE you eating enough in general? Did you already eat and now they want you to eat a second meal by having the Chipotle? Too many unanswered questions for anyone to provide good…
  • I don’t have input on the OP’s question, but want to say...don’t put off dental care! I did for three years in my early 30s and it led first to peridontal disease, then to a whole lotta cavities and crowns, then two root canals and now to the extraction of two molars in preparation for implants. This last is costing me…
  • I have had a hard time getting my head back in the game. I started maintenance in Sept. and then went on vacation to France (hello, cheese and pastries), got sick (twice), had oral surgery, enjoyed treats over the holidays and strained my back just before Christmas. So my normal eating and exercise habits have been…
  • Well thank goodness, too many food manufacturers try to hide how many calories are in a food by deciding that a “serving” is some ridiculously small portion of what’s in the package, when most normal people would consider the entire package one serving.
  • MikePTY you bring up an excellent point, and that is healthy body fat percentages based on sex and age. I can’t believe I never looked up what body fat percentage is considered healthy for my age. When I had my Dexa scan my analysis gave me a “percentile chart” and told me what my “percentile range” was, but the staff…
  • There’s a difference though between using your phone in the locker room to text or check email (which I do because I am self employed and go to the gym when everyone else, including my clients, is at work) and making phone calls or taking selfies.
  • You can’t tell what someone’s body fat percentage is just by looking at pictures of them.
  • I started maintenance last Sept and am just below my maintenance ceiling after a two week vacation, two lengthy colds during which I didn’t exercise, oral surgery after which I also did not exercise, and the holidays. I failed at maintenance last time; after maintaining for close to a year I gained half the weight back. So…
  • I had a Dexa scan done last May and I looked similar to her (same height and 4 pounds heavier) and my body fat was 28.9 percent. So you can’t tell from pictures.
  • That’s a great question, because two people disagreed with my stats/photo! Do they think I am lying about my stats?
  • For those who hit the disagree button on my post above...the title of this thread is “what diet tips work for you? Let’s share.” This is my personal experience and I shared it. I didn’t say it would work for anyone else or you should try it. Sheesh.
  • Thinking about food not just in terms of calories or taste, but in terms of health. When I remind myself that I should avoid a yummy food not because it will put me over my calorie goal but because it is a poor choice for my personal health concerns, that food suddenly becomes super easy to ignore.
  • I’m 59, 5’ 4.5” and am maintaining between 123-125 pounds.
  • Absolutely not true. I lost 20 pounds with just a small deficit.
  • I’m not counting calories and I’m eating and drinking whatever I want. That said, it’s just myhusband and me and I have planned a moderate-calorie Christmas dinner, with rock cornish game hens as the entree (think chicken). I am going to bake a dark-chocolate orange cake and have English scones with imported clotted cream…
