  • All I know is that until 2021, my weight gain (yo-yo dieter here) showed most in my butt and thighs, and my waist still looked relatively small and I had minimal midriff/tummy bulge, with smooth skin on my torso. I could disguise weight gain by wearing a-line dresses that fit snugly through the torso and flared over the…
  • I love it when I answer a question by sharing what works for me because of my personal health indicators and people “disagree.” I’m so over these forums.
  • Because of the negative health issues for me with red meat, cured meats (sausage, bacon, lunch meat, jerky, etc.), and cheese (trying to lower my intake of saturated fat), I rely on tofu, lean chicken, tuna, fish, Greek yogurt (fat free), nuts, protein powder and protein bars (either/or and only once a day at most). Also…
  • 1/2 cup of Heritage Flakes cereal and a 5.3 oz cup of Oikos Triple Zero yogurt mixed together with some artificial sweetener. And a bit of milk in my coffee.
  • I try to eat something higher in protein with a bit of "good" fat rather than carbs. I find that if I eat carbs for a snack, I'm still hungry, or hungry again sooner. Chocolate protein powder shake with some avocado , 16 grams of almonds or a high-protein bar that's between 160-190 calories are my current go-to snacks.…

  • Friend of mine and her husband were eating Keto for quite a while. He just spent several weeks in the hospital and lost 25 pounds of muscle because he suffered a massive heart attack. Keto is not a long-term healthy eating solution. High fat also puts you at risk for certain types of cancer (scientifically proven).
  • Drinking water is associated with weight loss in overweight dieting women independent of diet and activity https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18787524/ Effect of 'water induced thermogenesis' on body weight, body mass index and body composition of overweight subjects https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24179891/
  • I am also on a budget. I have been hiking my tush off and I put together a simple lifting program using bodyweight and dumbbells that I had. I will have to buy heavier dumbbells and adjust my program as I get stronger. I quit the gym (no COVID enforcement at my gym) with the money I’m saving bought an aerobics step online…
  • I’ve been doing this for several years, for health reasons.
  • Whole grains, along with fresh fruits and vegetables, are important for gut health. Because fiber. I eat either whole grain gereal or oatmeal nearly every day for breakfast. I eat a sandwich on whole wheat bread almost every day for lunch. And I have brown rice, whole wheat pasta, potatoes/sweet potatoes or a starchy…
  • I need a new refrigerator. No one has them in the size that will fit the space in my kitchen. It’s a standard size, but only huge refrigerators are in stock right now. It’s a supply chain issue. Apparently manufacturers miscalculated and just as demand went up (because of everyone staying home and putting stress on their…
  • I didn’t start really struggling until wildfire smoke forced me to stay inside with all the windows shut. I could have exercised inside but the horrible skies were so oppressive and dystopian. I felt depressed because until then my husband and I had been enjoying hiking several times a week. Now I had to wear a mask just…
  • WHAT vacation? We cancelled our plans because of COVID and have not gone anywhere this year. I am kind of amazed to hear people are going on cruises and to Hawaii. Not judging, just thought everything still had restrictions.
  • I have to eat high carb. I am cranky, hungry, always craving and feel awful when I try to cut carbs too low. I have learned this about my body thru trial and error. Everyone is different! But I would kill someone if I tried to do Keto. I have lost weight just fine eating high carb and counting calories. The key for me is…
  • Minimal red meat Plant-based dinners 2-3 times a week (black beans, tofu), otherwise fish, chicken or sometimes shrimp Zero cured meats including bacon (I have some health issues) A serving of whole-grain carbs at each meal Fresh fruit for snacks as much as possible (this does not always happen!) Very limited alcohol…
  • Me as well. I live in a tiny rural town, and my gym is a self-access box gym. It’s only staffed a few hours a week, so it’s not cleaned daily, plus who knows what’s left hanging in the air. A lot of people in my town refuse to wear masks, and they could be in there exercising while sick or asymptomatic. No thanks. I’d be…
  • My gym membership is on hold thru mid Sept. I’ve gotten so used to exercising at home that I will probably cancel it after that, even if the virus outbreak improves. I like the money I’m saving!
  • I have been in maintenance for almost a year, and during that time I've gained 5 pounds twice and gone back to a calorie deficit each time (currently in my second one). When I'm not in a deficit, I seem to slide back to old snacking habits and not logging. COVID didn't help, at the beginning I was drinking more and stress…
  • Fresh cherries. Going broke buying these, and I have to fight my husband for them. So good.
  • I have a recipe that calls for soaking the chicken breasts in 1 or 2% buttermilk plus some seasonings and a dash of hot sauce for a few hours or overnight. Then I spray the breading with nonstick spray before baking. Delicious
  • A better way to save some calories is to swap out 1/2 the butter/margarine with unsweetened applesauce. It makes 0 difference in how to cookies look or taste IMO.
  • I just started eating tofu. First, I always buy extra firm tofu. When I’m ready to cook it, I press it between paper towels/cutting boards with books on top for about 20 minutes, changing the paper towels about halfway through. Then I cut into bite-sized squares, coat with a small bit of oil and soy sauce, put in a baggie…

  • My petty reason is that I’m finally at a place where I’m willing to get up and work out (major depression has been a beast lately) and I can’t because the gyms are closed. And even if they open, I probably won’t go back until the end of the year...maybe [/quote] I hate working out at home. It’s a major endeavor to motivate…
  • And they are driving up to the Sierra foothills to recreate, ignoring the stay at home order.
  • Yes. One of my clients left for vacation on March 18. Her family flew to Fiji. Hope she can get back home!
  • It also hasn’t stopped people from driving 4 hours from the Bay Area to my small foothill community near Yosemite. Joke’s on them, though, Yosemite just closed. I get the whole exercise outaide thing, I have been hiking nearly every day. But do it in your own city/county!
  • This just did happen to me. Heavy, wet snow all day, by late afternoon trees began coming sown and took out power lines. Fortunately we have a generator, so all the frozen food was preserved. And they got the power back on in just 4.5 hours.
  • Not much for me has changed, except I’ve stopped going to the gym, which is still open (small self-serv box gym. I’m in a rural part of.CA and while the gov has strongly urged all gyms to close, it’s not a mandate. Our county has not imposed that restriction.) I already work from home. No kids, so no change there. I have…
  • As long as you are eating below your maintenance calories, you WILL continue to lose. It will just happen more slowly. I recently lost 20 pounds MFP said I should eat at 1250 calories. Tried and couldn’t do it. Upped calories to 1350 and had days that I ate MUCH more than that. Still lost the weight, although it took 7…
