How do you know it’s actual weight gain vs water weight?
I am brand new to maintenance. I hear a lot of people say they are successful in maintenance by making sure they buckle down again (i.e. eat at a deficit) whenever they near the top of or exceed their maintenance weight range. The common wisdom is to catch weight creep early and don’t let it become permanent regain. I…

Reached goal weight but can still pinch fat - now what?
I am 59 years old, 5’4.5” tall and just reached my goal weight of 122 pounds. I have been lifting for almost a year (progressively heavier but verrrry slowly adding weight). I eat 100-122 grams of protein a day. I look good but still have 2 inches of fat I can pinch on my waist and back, “bat wings” on my arms and a bit of…

Maintenance calories: 1420?
If I were to begin maintenance today, MFP gives me 1,420 calories (before exercise cals, which I always eat back). Can that be right? I’m 59, 5’ 4.5”, and I currently weigh 126.6. I work from home and am pretty sedentary when not actually doing a workout. Still, that seems incredibly low.

Close to goal and slacking
I am three pounds from my original goal and six from the goal I decided to hit to allow for some maintenance “wiggle room.” While I see areas of my body that still have some fat I’d like to lose, overall I look good. This is leading to slacking. This week I have had to force myself to log and I’ve been over on calories at…

Question about scale fluctuations
I’m in a deficit and have been one weight for about a week. Two days ago the scale was down a pound. The next day it was back up one pound. The next day it was back down 1 pound. Have I lost one pound that is being masked by water retention? Or is the lower weight showing because I’m not always properly hydrated (which I’m…

Super itchy skin
For the past week or so the skin on my back has been super itchy, no matter how much lotion I apply and how many cool showers I take. It’s just my back, nowhere else. Nothing in my routine (soap, clothes, sheets, etc.) has changed. Could this be due to the different eating pattern I’ve been on since Jan, trying to lose…

How to stay motivated all the way till goal?
I only have 9 more pounds to lose until goal. Not completely happy with how I look naked but I look good in most of my clothes. This is sapping my motivation to keep losing. How do you stay motivated all the way to goal?

What does YMMV mean?
I’ve seen it several times in these forums. Puzzled.

“Thinner, Leaner, Stronger” - your thoughts?
I’ve done a lot of reading on MFP and have Starting Strength and New Rules of Lifting for Women. I’ve had to modify their lifting programs because I’m a beginner just starting to build strength and because I have low back issues. And I have learned a ton about proper nutrition for recomp (which is what I’m doing) from…

Should you weigh pasta cooked or uncooked?
1/2 cup of uncooked pasta is a decent serving while a 1/2 cup of cooked is dismal. Which is correct?

Confused about protein for recomp
I am trying to recomp. I have heard two different things on MFP about the amount of protein that you are supposed to eat. 1) one gram of protein per pound of bodyweight 2) one gram of protein per pound of LEAN body weight. As I have estimated my body fat at 27%, this is a huge difference in how much protein I should be…

Why do my MFP goals and calories keep changing on their own?
Today I went to log and my calorie goal, which I had upped to 1300 from the 1200 MFP gave me, was 1230. Similarly, my protein and fiber goals and my macros, which I had customized, were all back at the MFP defaults. This has heppened before. Why? It’s super annoying.

Where is the “stomach photos” thread?
Recently saw a thread where tons of BMI “normal” women posted photos of what their stomachs looked like, and it was so inspiring because everyone had some amount of “muffin top” when sitting and many women were making jokes about what their stomachs looked like while planking (The Scream). Anyone know where that thread is?

Every damn time
I've been lifting (Stronglifts) and doing bodyweight exercises for three weeeks this time. Every time I get into a rhythm with lifting I strain something and have to stop lifting for a few weeks. And I don't even know it because the strain doesn't begin hurting for 1-2 days after. Which means I'm not sure which exercise…

How did you keep it off?
For those of you who have been at your goal weight for a year or more, how did you not slide back into overeating? I am trying to lose the same 10-15 pounds for the third time since joining MFP. When I reach my goal weight, I slowly slide back into the bad habits that put the weight on. It's a mental thing for me. I get…

What are the different parts of a barbell called?
Dumb newbie question, but I can't find this online. What is a collar? Is it the part of the bar that the plate is pushed up against when loaded onto the bar, or is it the spring-loaded thingy that you put on to keep the plate from sliding off the bar? I have seen both of these things called collars. And what is a knurling?…

How is this supposed to work?
Not sure how this group is supposed to work. There are two stickies, Day 1 and Day 2, where the group leader has simply posted everything she ate, and pictures. Is that what this group is doing? Or are we going to post about whether we stuck to our stated goals each day, what went well, what went wrong, etc.?

Squatting above parallel?
Okay, so I posed this question in the Fitness and Exercise forum, but wanted opinions from women experienced with 5x5. EVERYTHING I have studied so far insists you must squat below parallel. Not parallel, you must go below to get any benefit. However, I think some of the back strain I suffered recently was due to the fact…

How much space do you need for a home gym?
Do you think I could fit a squat rack, rack to hold plates, bench and a spin bike or equivalent into a 7.5 x 8.5 foot space? I'm only 5'5" so the rack doesn't need to be tall.
