Question about scale fluctuations

I’m in a deficit and have been one weight for about a week. Two days ago the scale was down a pound. The next day it was back up one pound. The next day it was back down 1 pound.
Have I lost one pound that is being masked by water retention? Or is the lower weight showing because I’m not always properly hydrated (which I’m not)?

It sounds like you have lost one pound. The best suggestion I can provide is to use a weight trending app like Happy Scale or Libra and log your daily weights. This will show you the overall trend through the fluctuations.3

If you are for sure in a calorie deficit you are losing fat weight and that is the only answer I can give you. Whether your scale weight was up and down because of hydration level is unknowable from your post.2 -
So many reasons for scale fluctuations including your bowel movements. I don't question it too closely. It would only lead to insanity.2
