  • Maybe try some different brands or flavors of yogurt. I think the light and fit has artificial sugars in it. Not sure, but I don't like artificial sugars either and I know I don't buy the light and fit for some reason. So check that - you may be noticing that taste. I find the mixed berry types of Greek yogurt pretty…
  • We eat dinner together as a family probably 95% of the time. Sometimes that means all the family who is around. So once a month when my son is on a campout its just DH and me. Occasionally DH has a late meeting and it's just me and our son. One son is off at college, so clearly he isn't eating with us now. Breakfast and…
  • In trying to figure out my maintenance level, I lost a few extra pounds. So for now, my goal is not to lose any more and try to remember that I have an extra couple of pounds to deal with and not worry so much between now and New Years. I will still try to eat mostly healthy. And then reassess after the holidays.
  • I thought that diabetic diagnosis wasn't until your a1c was 6.5? My Dr. Didn't seem too concerned about a 6.0 a1c for me. I had to bring it up and ask for help. I've since gotten it down to 5.7 mostly just losing about 20 pounds and trying to be moderate in my diet and some more walking. A few weeks before the recheck at…
  • I make pies at times with canned fruit. Not canned pie filling, but just the fruit. Cherries don't grow here in the southern U.S., so it would be awfully expensive and a pain to pit them to use fresh. I buy cans of tart cherries and use less sugar than the recipe calls for (I've always used less sugar, I prefer the taste…
  • I very carefully weighed everything out for a salad at home once and all the lettuce and veggies came to 60 calories for a big plate full. And playing around with more or less of different veggies didn't really seem to affect it, so now I just log my salad as that. Then I list separately the higher cal stuff - hard boiled…
  • Last year at Thanksgiving, my MIL forgot the sugar in the pumpkin pie. It was ok (but not great) with whipped cream. So last week I made pumpkin pie with 1/3 cup sugar instead of the 3/4 cup it called for. With whipped cream, it was just fine - for me and DH and my teen. Without the crust, one slice of pie and whipped…
  • I've tried using the recipe builder, noting the weights of everything I put in. Then tallying up the total weight and logging the recipe as x calories per 100 g serving. I find it a pain to remember to weigh each and every ingredient, though. Especially in a recipe with ten or more ingredients. On the other hand, I…
  • On the other hand, breastfeeding helped me drop weight effortlessly. I felt like I could eat anything and everything and still lose the weight. Of course, I didn't have much time to eat, which may have been some of it, but I clearly remember the big bowl of ice cream every night and buying smaller jeans. I gained about 30…
  • I sent a friend request. You can look at my diary. I have a goal of 1800 at maintenance. I still get the nibbles at times, but mostly I feel satisfied under those calories. I try to do moderate carb (aiming for under 150g, don't often make it, but pretty much always less than my 40% macro). I find Greek yogurt quite…
  • 5'7", 134 now. I just went shopping for new pants yesterday. I walked into Kohl's wearing Levi's size 12 US (from about 10ish years ago) that fit me fine. Bought a new pair of Levi's size 8 - fit is basically the same. There has been some serious vanity sizing going on.
  • I had this same issue a few days ago and hadn't thought about it before cooking the pasta. So today I measured out one 2 oz serving (56g) dry. After cooking, that same pasta was 130g. BTW this was Barilla protein plus Penne. Turns out I dramatically underestimated my pasta the other night. I probably had 1/4-1/3 of a…
  • I do weigh my fruits as a difference in size can have a pretty big calorie difference. I don't worry about it overly much if I'm out somewhere, though, as I'm getting better with estimating sizes. For salads, I weighed stuff a few times and now just estimate as it really doesn't make much difference. Same thing with most…
  • Yogurt is pretty easy to keep even without a fridge for a day or two. You can stick it in the ice bucket with ice and it will do fine. I've done that plenty of times when we didn't end up with a fridge.
  • Go to goals and change your weekly goal to maintain weight. It should give you an updated calorie amount. And congrats!
  • I only do white rice when pressed for time. I prefer the brown as do my kids and DH.
  • I sent you a friend request. I'm pre-diabetic and working to reverse it before it becomes diabetes. Would love any suggestions and friends to help with this.
  • You can go in and change your goal to maintain temporarily to see how many calories you would get then. I'm about your size and in maintenance. I'm 5'7", 135 lbs and set at lightly active. I get 1800 calories a day. At only 7 more pounds you want to lose, I would set your goal to 0.5 lbs/week. It's hard to go from big…
  • I really wish they would do more of a trending type look ahead, based on say the previous weeks worth of entries. Far more likely to have some token amount of accuracy of predictions.
  • Start small. Can you fit in a ten minute walk around your work a couple of times a day? Or walk up/down stairs when you go to the restroom at work. When you cook, cook enough for a couple of nights dinners and either freeze the extras or have it alternate nights. DH and I spent several years of cooking on the weekend and…
  • What I have found is that *for me* I can be very moderate and eat just one or just one serving of a treat, if I know there will be more later. So, I have a half a pan of seven layer bars (one of my favorite cookies) in the freezer and it has lasted me since I baked it in late April I think. But I know it's there (and my…
  • No, I don't list them, unless I'm putting a recipe into the recipe builder.
  • I'm usually better but yesterday I had half a chocolate croissant with breakfast, a small blonde brownie with lunch, half a Klondike bar with dinner and a few chocolate almonds. And it all fit into my maintenance calories (even with room to spare - the fish for dinner was way lower cal than I had initially realized).
  • I don't have a Fitbit, but have been thinking about one for Christmas. I do use the iPhone steps counter and find that it gives me extra calories almost immediately. As in I have 2 extra calories so far this morning for 299 steps. That seems like it is overestimating things. So I will be following this to see what response…
  • I've been trying to add some of the little things, like walking around the island while I'm waiting on the microwave and marching in place while brushing my teeth or drying my hair. Little things that don't seem like anything will add up to 1000 or more steps easily per day. Add in some laps around the kitchen and living…
  • I remember those days blearily. What I found worked for me was limiting TV time for my older son to only during the baby's nap time. So he would happily sit and watch TV while I put the baby down and then got a short nap myself. Since he knew that was the only TV time he was going to get, he was pretty good at watching…
  • Strawberries are also low in sugar and high in fiber, so I wouldn't substitute away from them.
  • Great mindset! I know I started wanting to lose fast and trying to restrict a lot. But my life keeps going on. I decided I didn't want to be the spoilsport when DH came home with a treat. For example, He had gyros for lunch one day and was going to bring home baklava to share with me. Well, the guy at the restaurant heard…
  • I'm not overly tall at 5'7", but I have long arms and legs. I started my weight loss journey when my US size 14s were getting too tight. I've lost 25-30 pounds and had been shopping my closet for clothes I had grown out of. But I found only one pair of jeans in a 12 that still fit well. So I went shopping yesterday (not my…
  • What about puréed soups? I had some major dental work done a few years ago and they didn't specify liquid, but it couldn't need much if any chewing. I could eat yogurt, applesauce, non chunky soup. I wasn't worried about sugars then so I had some yummy milkshakes too. It hurt no matter what, though, so I lost weight even…
