But sometimes people need to see the second step in order to grasp the first step. Sometimes understanding CICO comes when they get help in that process. There is the truth or fact of CICO and there is how to apply it in my setting.

We do have to distinguish between the truth of CICO and how to make that happen in our own lives on a daily basis. It is a little off putting to tell a newcomer sumply "eat at a calorie deficit and you'll lose weight." If that were so easy then there would not be any folks on MFP. It is true but people need help with the…

I'm so sorry for you loss and continuing grief. There is some good advice here already!

I find that simple sugars and simple carbs are issues for me. I routinely avoid candy, packaged sweets, breads and pasta. Pizza is a particular problem for me. I feel full longer and am less likely to overeat if I choose fresh veggies, fruits, proteins with a few whole grains. I know the philosophy on MFP is a calorie is a…

If you want something, you plan for it. I go to bed between 9-10 and wake up without an alarm around 5. I've basically given up TV. Being healthy is more important.

Do the next right thing!

I am using it.

My mantra when I slip is "Do the next right thing!"

I think some of the starch gets left behind in the boiling water, but I agree that you are better off weighing before cooking.

I agree with Varduk. I made significant progress overcoming depression when I forgave the people who had hurt me. I also found that regular exercise and healthy eating helps my sleep patterns which in turn promotes a more positive affect. I also found that eating less processed food and sugar helped me.

1. Focusing on the journey, not the goal. When I have stumbles, I do the next right thing and remember how far I have come on the journey of healthy living! 2. Being mindful of the difference between true physical hunger and a desire to use food to meet needs that would be better met a different way.

Vune-Thanks so much for the encouragement about the transplant! My sister is being evaluated today , and the transplant team says yeah or nay on Monday. I have appt. for my donor evaluation in three weeks. Our goal is to keep her off dialysis, but she is going downhill quickly! Thanks to all for the great yoga suggestions!…

I'm in the Fage group (2%). I use it as a substitute in any recipe calling for sour cream or mayo. It is pretty much an obsession. When I first started eating it I added honey , but I now love the tart flavor with just berries or homemade granola.

I agree with the above responses. I have lost five pounds in 22 days, and feel like I am losing at a healthy sustainable weight.

I'm in! I resumed yoga this week. Following my daily walk with friends, I head to the front porch to practice yoga. Vune, I am in the process of being evaluated as a live kidney donor for my sister. That is the impetus to get me at my healthiest!

I drink three cups every morning with a splash of dark chocolate almond milk.

Plain Greek yogurt with homemade granola, any type of citrus fruit, I'm a big fan of a clementine with a small piece of dark chocolate, almond butter on a crunchy tart Apple,

My favorite way to eat healthy fats is to take a whole avocado, a hard boiled egg, minced onion and a can of water based tuna, mash it up and eat it in lettuce wraps or half a pita. One recipe makes two servings for me. Also, I really focus on recognizing physical hunger versus the desire to eat. I am finding that I can…

I head to the chiropractor when that happens. I also still do yoga but paying very close attention to my body's response and avoiding any poses that prompt a stress response. It is more sbout tension release and gentle flexibility than strength and flexibility.

I agree. Maintenance is a more realistic goal on vacation. Choosing the healthiest option available, moving more, etc. Also, my mantra has become "Do the next right thing!" So there is no diving into overeating with the statement, "I've messed up so I'll just start again on Monday or tomorrow morning or when I get home…

Cristina - I recommend that you work in some type of exercise that involves your kids, even just dancing around the house. You don't say how old they are, but depending upon the age, they would probably enjoy anything that you do to include them. If they have favorite kid videos with music, incorporate that. Look for an…
