It is truly frustrating, and I know what you mean by having a "tiny tank," canadianlbs. I find it to be something of a catch-22, because when I was worst (before I got diagnosed) through my first weeks of treatment, I was doing less and less because I had such low energy, and I think I just got weaker. I had so little…

Congratulations on your run in the Boston Marathon! How wonderful! I do have a plan for getting off the prednisone, I'm currently tapering and will hopefully be able to keep my condition under control with a different, better tolerated medication. Unfortunately, I needed to have the prednisone to get the flare under…

Good luck on this! Yoga is wonderful. I used to do it every morning first thing, but fell out of the habit when I got an early morning job.
-
It certainly is! In many ways, I feel better than I have in years, but when I taper it's just so awful for a while (weeks!). I'd been pretty pleased by how I'd kept my weight in check despite the prednisone, but now that I've been on it for 5+ months I find I am up 10 lbs. That puts me just over the top of my desired…

I wish I knew what to do, but that's part of why I started this thread! The muscle fatigue is hard to deal with, and the only thing that I've found that helps is exercise . . . which is hard because of the unnatural fatigue. I'm doing C25K now, a program that I have done in the past, and it can be so discouraging because I…

I know. I am currently on a taper, but we are trying to get the autoimmune condition into remission. Nasty as prednisone is, I was much worse off before.

Hello, everyone! I am just learning how to ride, and so rather than miles I will aim simply to ride three or more days per week.
-
Got up bright and early and ran in the rain. About 2.7 miles. I only saw four people. Running in the rainstorm felt amazing. I stayed in the grass. I'm not sure I've got the shin splints beaten. I had a bit of tightness at the 20 minute mark and walked until it went away. I continue to stretch daily, and its really…

Thank you! I went riding in the park yesterday and it was so much fun! I've been missing out.

@shanaber The doctor told me to wear neutral running shoes with the orthotics. I checked that out right away after the stability shoes the running store sold me hurt my foot. She's concerned about overcorrection. A running form lab would't be a bad idea.
-
I actually plan to go back to a running store to get fitted again once I get my orthotics back. However, when I got fitted before they put me in support shoes with my orthotics, and running in them really hurt my foot. I wasn't able to run or walk much for a couple weeks. In asking about more cushioned shoes, I was trying…

I continue to stretch and rest my shins. I feel envious reading of everyone's runs! Still, I'm holding off for a few more days, at least. Could lack of cushioning in my shoes be an issue? I have been running in Saucony Triumph ISOs, but I have a pair of ASICS Gel-Venture (trail) shoes that I bought just to have a pair of…

Thank you for a useful thread! I just took a learn-to-ride class yesterday, and I'd really like to get a bike. I wish I could start out with something used to save money, but I have no idea how to pick without the guidance of a sales clerk!
-
I figured I'd do it every morning. Or would it be better twice per day?
-
Here I am, skipping my first running day in weeks because I need to give my shins time to recover. I've cut out all the high impact exercise I've been doing and started looking into running-specific exercises and stretches. Did yoga this morning, then the stretches in the video posted above. My shins feel slightly better…

Thank you for the video and the link!

This morning I did a 30 minute run followed by walking home. During the warmup-run-cooldown part, I went about 3.1 miles, at a 12 minute mile pace. It was a bit slower than usual, due to . . . Shin splints! Ugh. At least, I guess that's what's going on. When I first started jogging last winter, I got a tightness in the…

I create a custom exercise for each level and use a HRM to estimate calorie burn.

Hello, everyone! I found the July challenge and posted there before I saw this thread. I'd like to join you for August. I'm a new runner, having completed C25k at the end of June. I'm currently running 30 minutes 3 days per week, and just added a 4th run day (20 minutes which I'll build to 30). Over the next two and a half…
-
It isn't that bad! I found every increase after W5D3 very doable, though they looked scary!

May I join in? It's rather late in the month for a ticker, but perhaps I will do one next month. I am a new runner in Queens NY. I'm currently running three days per week, 30 minutes apiece, and have just added a fourth day (20 minutes). Over the next two months, I hope to build up to a 60 minute long run. I'm tracking…

What results are you looking for?
-
. . . oh, you mean THAT kind of skipping! :D
-
Thank you again, everyone. This morning, I added a 20 minute run of about a mile and a half. It felt great, and I could have kept on going. It's my first time running back to back days, and it took me a bit longer to warm up. I'll build this run up to 30 minutes, too, and get started on One Hour Runner the other three days…

I like to hula hoop if I need a bit of exercise at home. It also helps an achy back. I use a slightly weighted fitness hoop that I got at Marshall's. 2 lbs or so. I hoop for 30+ minutes at a time. You have to build up slowly or your core will be sore/bruised. According to my HRM, I get a decent calorie burn, but if I do it…

I did swim team for years. I have always had an experience like yours. The first 800-1200 yards, my body screams "What are you crazy for doing this?! STOPPIT!" But after that it's a breeze.
-
Thank you for all the tips!
-
I was not asking in terms of my personal schedule, of course, but so as not to risk injury from increasing too fast...

Here is a link to the plan: One Hour Runner. The first three weeks has you continuing at 30 minutes, 3 days per week. Weeks 4-10 gradually build by a few minutes per week to having one 30, one 40, and one 60 minute run per week. I picked it because I liked the approach better than c210k, which increases rather abruptly in…

Do you have any suggestions on how to safely add a fourth running day to my week while also doing a program like One Hour Runner (which gradually adds time)?
