I definitely do need a better program. I had assumed that 30 days is a short amount of time, and that this calendar would give me some improvements in a digestible form. I didn't anticipate how boring it would be, especially since I didn't realize it would be so comparatively easy. Not that my abs are amazingly strong yet.

My mother and father both got more motivated to exercise when they scheduled a European vacation that would involve a lot of walking to enjoy to its fullest. They both exercised in preparation for that, and it really helped them to have something they really wanted to enjoy at the end of the line. Unfortunately, after the…

And how is this supposed to have any effect beyond placebo?

I have a smoothie made with a banana every day after I work out (for the potassium), which can help restless legs. Stretching or doing hatha or restorative yoga helps relieve soreness quite a bit. If I anticipate muscle soreness, I will take an ibuprofin before bed.

On A Bra That Fits on Reddit, they claim that an ill-fitting bra can cause breast tissue to migrate over time into the underarm area. If that is possible, then I don't see why it wouldn't be possible on other areas of the body. But I am skeptical. If binding clothes were effective for directing fat deposits, I doubt…

I wait until after 8 am to do any exercise other than yoga. I exercise in the living room, which is not over a sleeping area. And I have a wall to wall carpet with an area rug over it. I try to land softly.

Do you/would you stop if asked, out of other people in the gym looked annoyed?
-
You're welcome.
-
Yes, at any volume. It's intrusive to make noise like that in a public space. Phone conversations and loud music at the gym are also rude in my opinion.
-
10. Your voice, even if it is good, will ruin my train of thought and greatly reduce the pleasure of my workout. It may even mean I leave more annoyed and stressed than I arrived.

Running outside is what made me like running. I am vitamin d deficient, so I need the sun. Plus being outside in urban nature and seeing my neighbors and neighborhood have greatly enhanced my happiness. I don't know what I will do when it gets icy.
-
I went ahead and tried a 30 minute, very slow run. I completed it without difficulty or pain. Good to be back!

I have gone down to a size 4 in the last year and I am having a hard time finding clothes that fit. Either they do not stock that size, or it gets picked clean as soon as new clothes go in . . . I am not sure. But I've been trying to find new pants for months, and I haven't yet found one that fits. Speaking of pants and…

I use a heart rate monitor while I do the video. I created my own exercise for Level 1 of 30DS, and log my calorie burn there.

Could it be low level soreness in your muscles from the newish exercise? I get that, just sore enough that my sleep isn't sound. Some ibuprofen before bed fixes it, and as I got fitter at running it went away.

I'm not actually discouraged, I knew as soon as I woke up that I would struggle due to my own choice to take insufficient rest. ;)

I'm sorry I was unclear. I thought saying that strengthening the core would make engaging the muscles easier would make it clear I was talking about muscles not fat. However, the parent post is about fat, so I guess the confusion is understandable.

I had this very conversation with my mom a week ago. She was discouraged because she'd only list 6 lbs in 6 weeks, so it was going to take months to lose the weight she gained over the winter. But she gained that weight over four or five months. Why would it come off faster? But then sometimes people believe they gained…
-
Yes, that was my point.
-
Fat. Sorry.
-
I want taking about fast, however. Just whether/how easy it is to engage the core.
-
I tried to do the Day 7 test this morning and was so sore from other exercise that I only held the plank for half the time of my original test.
-
Doesn't strengthening your core have an effect on measurements? If nothing else, stronger core muscles would mean you can keep them engaged more of the time. I know that if I keep my core engaged, it takes at least an inch off my waist.

When I start a new kind of exercise, like kickboxing, I can be very, very sore for 3 or 4 days after my first 1 to 3 times going. After that, the soreness is much less. I'll get some soreness when I do a new move or really push myself, but ibuprofen is enough. If you were not very active before, it might make sense to go a…

I am 5'3.75", so basically 5'4". I weigh about 117 today. My goal range is between 114 and 118, though I could go as low as 110 and I'd be OK with it. Overall, I'd probably do better to build muscle, though.
-
That linked calendar is really fascinating. If I say I want to lose 7 lbs, it gives me an 85 week plan. I suppose that's because I am so close to my supposed goal weight already. If I set it to recomp and look to *gain* 10 lbs, it gives me a 23 week plan. Though I feel sort of doubtful that I could put on 10 lbs of muscle…

I'm also never clear what people are exactly looking for when they say they want visible abs. Are "visible abs" the image above at 16-18% (defined 6 pack)? Or are the posters looking for the amount of "definition" at 20-22%? For some people, they might consider their abs visible at the level of the woman illustrating 25%.…

Calipers.

I do exactly the same exercises as I would normally do. From what I've read, there really isn't too much to support the idea that you shouldn't do yoga inversions during one's period.

Thank you for this post! I'd never heard of fluid trainers (or rollers) before. An appealing option, perhaps, for someone like me who lives in an apartment. If I ever learn how to ride a bike, it would make much more sense to have a bike + trainer than a bike + other home cardio equipment.
