Good luck! Not that you'll need it. In a years time you'll be looking back on today as a fitter, healthier person.

After entering your details into MFP you'll normally be given a pretty accurate target, but if you're unsure, or just want to look into it a bit further, I'd suggest reading up on BMR and TDEE. There are some good website-based calculators that will help you, or at least give you an idea, of what you should be eating per…

You're freakin' awesome. Less than two months in and you're already smashing it. If that's how you're ending 2017, I can only imagine how much progress you're going to make in 2018!
-
Hi, @tracey04042017! Is this your first time using MFP? I've taken a bit of a break over the last couple of weeks, but I'm also getting back on the wagon in the new year. I'll be more controlled from tomorrow, but I'll be back to being strict on 01/01/2018.

@cmriverside: Yeah, I remember reading and seeing on some programs that the information on packages can legally be off to a certain degree, and that they average out over time. I weight things like cereal, frozen veg, and anything that can be portioned (chips, etc.) not slices of bread, ready meals or things already in a…

Hey! As well as logging everything you eat, it's also worth gradually increasing your exercise, too. Though everyone says weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise, the exercise will make you feel good and want to keep you on track. Also, it's worth doing a bit of reading and seeing what's out there. Lots of nutritionists…

@Gisel2015: I will occasionally have a meal that I haven't been able to calculate for definite, but I'll have that nagging doubt in the back of my mind as to whether or not I've been able to guestimate properly. You're right, though, I think it's something that I need to come to terms with. This is a lifestyle change,…

@TavistockToad: A few weeks ago I spent some time reading up on 'diet breaks'. I've been logging regularly for the last six months so decided a couple of weeks ago that I'd take a two week controlled break over Christmas. The first week I stuck to my TDEE minus 5% to stay in a slight deficit, however the second week over…

Hey! You're not alone in the losing/gaining game, so awesome job for deciding now's the time you're going to take control again. Though there isn't a quick fix or 'one rule' for all, logging everything, making healthier choices and gradually increasing your exercise to a sustainable level will help you slowly, but surely,…

Hey! You'll not only be leaving with cute clothes, but you'll have an entire cute wardrobe. There's nothing better than fitting into a size smaller than what you thought you'd be... and that'll definitely be you, too.
-
@janejellyroll: Thanks, I appreciate that. Yeah, I'd say I'm fine with calorie counting, I guess I just wish I could be a bit more lenient with foods I can't find the exact details for. New Year's resolution perhaps?
-
@cmriverside Like most people I've tried several diets, but calorie counting is the only thing that's ever really worked for me, too. See, I've never really prepared my own foods that aren't either a ready meal or frozen things that I can throw in the oven. I know that's because they've nutritional information on and at…
-
@janejellyroll: I don't think I'm obsessed, and I'll occasionally estimate the calories of something, but it tends to play in the back of my mind how close I was to the right value. I know a value isn't right all of the time, and even the values on packets average out over time, but I feel as though I have a figure to…

I'm doing the same as you, concentrating on getting my diet under control before building on an exercise routine. I've got an exercise bike which I use, but I'd really like to get into running. I live minutes away from a walking path through beautiful countryside, and one day I'll slip on some running shoes and give it a…

But are you at least feeling better in yourself? This is all about mental wellbeing as much as physical. It's all about making small changes on a regular basis, and setting goals you know you can keep to. I used to have unrealistic expectations for myself and give up a few weeks in because I couldn't achieve them.
-
Sounds as though you've got the right attitude and positive mind frame, there's absolutely nothing stopping you now. You can totally do this! :)

Big fan of the regular Oreo. Original and the greatest, much like most things in life. Bought those lunch packs that have two cookies in, have them as part of my lunch when I'm at work. A tasty treat to get me through to the end of the day.

Like a few people above have mentioned, I'll have a cheat meal rather than a cheat day. Even then I don't have it every week. On Mondays I go out with "the boys" for food and cinema. If we go to a place I can record for, I'll go ahead and account for it in advance. If I know we're going to a place I can't, I'll make good…

Having to ask the assistant at a clothing store to bring you a smaller size than the one you took in, and catching the smile on your face when you actually realise you need a smaller size. I'm going to be honest, I do a little dance.

Huge congratulations! Keep up the amazing work you're doing and it won't be long until you hit the 50lb mark either :)
-
I know a few people who have been through the same situation as you, and I know it's a feeling you never quite shake. But looking at the progress you've made you've done incredibly, and I hope you continue to do so. Keep up the amazing work :)

That's an amazing difference. Whatever you're doing so far, keep it up :)
