  • For a while, I tried not eating my exercise calories back. It was good going for a few weeks, but eventually I started feeling some serious fatigue during my usual exercise routines, and feeling that for a few days made me less inclined to continue exercising daily. So now, I eat my exercise calories to fuel my body to…
  • OMG thank you! I was annoyed at the mental math I'd have to do when looking over my "banked" calories to use over the weekend. <3
  • I ordered a bowl of ramen noodles from a momofuku type Japanese eatery last weekend. I only had 1/4of it, because I couldn't fit all of it into my calorie budget. This weekend I plan on eating the rest :D
  • We have an employee fridge here that gets emptied out once a week by maintenance people. I usually cook food at home, weigh and log everything, stuff it into tupperware and bring it to work. When I'd get hungry, I'd microwave and eat it. Some days I'd just order out, but order things that would be easy to weigh and log…
  • I keep a food scale on my desk, and weigh all my food and log it all. I'd do this if I were working days, too :)
  • I beg to differ  I'm only moving around 2 of the 24 hours in a day, I'd say that's pretty sedentary (compared to someone who spends 8+ hours of the day on their feet) I can see your point about lightly active. Maybe I'll set it to that, but it wont really change my calorie budget afaik. My first few weeks of using…
  • Yes, I do have negative calorie adjustments enabled. Additionally, if I look at previous day entries, they're all just showing 1 fitbit calorie adjustment (as expected). Only today's seems to be showing 2. I hope it doesn't happen again for tomorrow. The amount of calories I have available for my budget on the phone app is…
  • 5'9 male, 186 lbs, 37 years old. MFP is set to sedentary, negative calories enabled Monday (Jogging morning and walking evening) 23413 steps -> 1691 calories Tuesday (walking morning and evening ) 20873 steps -> 1140 calories Wednesday (Jogging morning and walking evening) 19798 steps -> 1266 calories Today (walking…
  • I'm also part of the fitbit fanbase. I love mine, and I eat back all my calories from exercise. I have been steadily losing while eating all of my exercise calories back. It may not be 1 lb every week consistently, but over x amount of weeks, the math works out to y amt of lbs per week. They even send you an email every…
  • Can you cook at home one night a week? Make a weeks worth of food and store/portion in Tupperware
  • Thanks. That makes sense :-)
  • I bought a "sharper image" brand kitchen scale from bed bath and beyond for $20ish... target sells some kitchen scales that do all the stuff you want for around $15
  • Actually, maybe you'd have the answer to this, lets say the person in question maintains a high sodium intake, would they always be retaining x lbs of water? Or would the body flush it out eventually?
  • High Sodium intake can mask your weight loss due to water retention, so that's kind of option 3
  • I liked the before picture, too

  • I don't know how glycogen works or how it's used etc so i can't offer much insight there :-( but not feeling full while on a deficit can be a recipe for disaster. Tip the odds in your favor and try to get at least 38 grams of fiber a day
  • If i understand you right, "the math is not working" means you're not losing weight? So you may be eating more calories than you think, and if you're not feeling full then you may need to change up some of your calorie sources to give you more fiber. Mfp suggests 38 grams a day as the goal, so perhaps this is something you…
  • Are you getting enough fiber? It can help with feeling sated. Protein and fat, too
  • If i had to work on a way of eating that didn't include weighing and calorie counting, I'd try taking a picture of each meal i ate every day and weighing myself each week. If I'm gaining weight then I'm eating more than i burn, so I'd eat the same stuff but smaller portions, continuing to take pictures for comparisons. I'd…
  • I eat late all the time. Hasn't been a problem for weight loss. Are you sure the time you eat is a problem for your weight loss?
  • I wonder how they came to their conclusion... I kinda wish I had access to the harvard health letter :(
  • If you're already looking healthy, and know you sleep better eating at maintenance versus deficit, and you feel healthy and lift heavy, what is the benefit of eating at a deficit that outweighs all the benefits of not eating at a deficit?
  • I drink coconut water for potassium. It's pretty high in the stuff. Or, potatos have them (french fries if you can spare the calories), bananas, brussels sprouts, black beans, peaches, grapes
  • Raw Veggies! Or roast them. The carmelization adds a sweet flavor to some veggies. A psych professor once mentioned something that sticks with me to this day when I'm at my calorie limit for the day and am craving something but don't feel like exercising to increase my budget (or am on a rest day and allowing my body to…
  • I did weight watchers for a long time before switching to calorie counting. I liked it, and was successful with it, but after having switched to calorie counting and getting a better idea of my intake macros and micros, I feel I'm better off. For example, having a high sodium intake can mask weight loss. Additionally,…
  • Ive been working 9 pm to 5 am. I've been counting calories for a year now. I track the same as if I'm working a day shift, and haven't had any issues with weight loss. Yes, once midnight rolls around i have a fresh calorie budget to work with, but I make sure I always stay within my budget day to day. There is no special…
  • I've been using the Charge HR since April. I can't imagine doing any physical activity without it! I love that it also monitors heart rate so I can push myself to pick up the pace during my walks. I try to keep my heart rate at "Fat burn" which burns a little more calories per minute than being in the "out of zone (heart…
  • Thanks for the suggestions :) I normally lose at the rate I want. This last week scares me because I've lost a lot more than I was expecting. Perhaps the next few weeks I wont lose anything and that will make up for my sudden extra loss this week.
  • I tried skipping eating because I wasn't hungry earlier this week even though I had about 900 more calories left in my budget, and I ended up losing more than 1 lb this week. This is part of the dilemma I have now :( I am worried about losing more lean body mass than fat, and if I've been reading things right, it takes…
  • I hit my protein for the day. I usually have no issue meeting my fat and carb macros for the day so I don't even look at those numbers anymore  I also hit my calcium, iron, potassium, and fiber for the day.
