  • If you have not got the answer yet then allow me to provide it: A long-term intervention with an unrestricted-calorie, high-vegetable-fat Mediterranean diet was associated with decreases in bodyweight and less gain in central adiposity compared with a control diet. These results lend support to advice not restricting…
  • If you are after a toy then Fitbit, if you are after true sports tracker Garmin forerunner and the like are the way to go even if they have an optical HRM they also pair with chest straps for better data. I would also not bother with idea HR give better calorie estimate, simple physics moving a mass (you) at a speed (step…
  • The only one I have seen when I was looking at replacing my strap was a wahoo one but no idea if it is any good.
  • I have a Garmin Forerunner 235, I can change it while it is on via a phone booster battery pack, not HR function stops but not the step count. It does track HR 24 7 although it adjusts it sample rate to save power. But if you start it tracking an activity it does the fast sample rate and it will link to a chest strap if…
  • I'm quite light build for a man, so what. If you're strong good for you, as others have said keep doing what you enjoy and ignore the pricks they are only jealous.
  • My Garmin has my RHR as 43 for last week and 44 for the last 3 weeks as an average, I'm 42 and by no means an athlete. It is called Bradycardia unless it is causing you issues then don't worry about it, you can talk to your doctor if you like and there would be no harm in doing so. I will at some point but I know my dad…
  • Who says you can't eat those things once in a while, run the 5 miles that will get you about 900 cals at your current weight, sure the chicken wings are high in fat but also protein look at baked rather than fried. Go for thin traditional style pizza rather than deep pan, and be honest about what you are eating and what…
  • The bar looks like mine so I would guess 1.5kg / 3lb as an approximate, but as others have said you really only care about the improvement you are making.
  • I have a 10 kg set, the discs as 2 x 2.5kg, 2 x 1.25kg, 2 x 0.5kg total 8.5kg and the bar + spin locks does weight about 1.5kg.
  • If you mean your calories after your have recorded weight lost then you need to redo / recalculate your goal. Other wise Settings -> Profile -> Goals -> Current Weight this will do the same thing, where as logging your weight in progress doesn't.
  • I like my new Garmin Forerunner 235 it all depends on what you are after, okay it doesn't automatically detect / guess activities but does lots of other stuff like links to external HR monitors (has an optical one as well), bike sensors. Some of Garmin's forerunner range do other things as well swimming stroke count,…
  • My wife just added a guestimated 300 to 500 (started as 300 and increased it over time) as exercise for 1 minute.
  • You may also wish to rework out you requirements from time to time. As you loss weight and get fitter you need less calories to maintain that weight. Also the same exercise will burn less, if MFP is basing it's values on your original weight. Given all this then it could be out enough to bring a deficit towards a…
  • Not sure you you know about this page it says it is all okay now but might help in the future issues. https://connect.garmin.com/en-US/status
  • If you are doing a huge number via walking and your goal is based on say a desk job, then I would say yes. I have a desk job and MFP has that set so if I walk 6km in my lunch hour I do eat some or all of them back and I have lost weight doing this about 12kg. If you are set as active then you might consider the steps as…
  • I did have a One, but have trade up to Forerunner 235 cheaper than a high end fitbit and I think it does a better job all round, as I was using a fitbit for steps and a phone app for gps tracking and heart rate. Garmin's sync with MFP is a bit flaky though.
  • That is odd so when do you charge these things? Track your daily activity, set an alarm to get up to take it off charge.
  • I would say I felt fine during and after the run, I only slowed because I started burping not run that hard for that length of time for a long while. All things considered if I hadn't had the monitor I would have not even considered medical problems. Never paid much attention to the HR details before I just used it to get…
  • Yes I did wet it and I think it was a good fit (not over tight but not loose), its a Garmin premium (old model) with a FR 235.
  • Do you have any other devices i.e. what are you connecting with, I love my Gamin Premium (i.e. a soft strap) it is ANT+ so works with other ANT+ devices i.e. almost gamin running watches and some android phones.
  • I have push my heart to 90-100% of the estimated max i.e. 180 for over 4 minutes and I am not super fix, as with all things if you are struggling to cope with the workout then slow down or stop i.e. listen to your body.
  • Physics says it will always be the same calories you are doing work moving a mass from a to b you might be more inefficient i.e. produce more heat. The issues the zones your body is working in Z2 burns more fat than say Z5 if you are unfit your heart / body will be working in Z4 and Z5 i.e. burning carbs not fat, if you…
  • This is why my dad now has a pacemaker, I think it basically was when he tried to more his heart didn't speed up so he lost consciousness. I know my Garmin does not read constantly and is not a medical device but I have seen it read 37 and tells me I average 45 over 7 days, although when I move it will raise quickly.
  • Worrying!
  • Lets start with 2lb is not a good idea for people close to their ideal weight, 0.5 to 1lb is a better idea. Going by this http://www.healthchecksystems.com/heightweightchart.htm you are close at 5'3. Next the value is a net value, so if you do workout you need to eat more you earn them especially if you are on a high loss…
  • I found another method yesterday while reading to get your max HR. 211.415 - (0.5 * age) - (0.05 * weight in lbs) + 4.5 for a man 211.415 - (0.5 * age) - (0.05 * weight in lbs) for a woman This give me 186 vs 178 and as I push myself to 180 yesterday I would say it is a little more accurate. Today I have had a new low of…
  • Can't comment on the Garmin scales, but I can put another system into the mix, I have a Tanita scale and a third party app on my phone to read the data and the app also that pushes the data into Garmin Connect, the scale happens to work with a number of older Garmin products. One issue I have is Connect does not then feed…
  • Unless you have the right reasons to become veggie (or even pescatarian) you are not going to have any motivation beyond I fancy trying this, just like any diet the better the reason for starting the better your chances of success. I have been pescatarian for 28 years or as a veggie colleague calls me fussy, but then he…

  • I use a fitbit one, I would not get a wrist band version as they will pick up moving you arms about say while working at your desk thus they tend not to track steps as well from what I have read. I do the same walk most days and even then it can vary a lot on step count, okay so my stride length may vary over 6.5km from…
