  • Interesting. In the course of my life, I've been on every conceivable diet out there and IF is the only way of eating that I've been long term successful on and I eat plenty of good food. I don't deprive myself and don't count calories and eat plenty of good food. I had chronic kidney disease and was a Type II Diabetic.…
  • Dale, congrats on getting back! You know what works for you, but I don't measure food or count calories. I did that for so many years. It was torture restricting my food intake. I was so hungry all the time and would always put the weight back on plus extra pounds. This time I eat whole healthy food to my satisfaction…
  • Hi there, fellow 76'er! I agree with everything you said. I feel so much younger than my age after following IF for 2 years. I don't find it hard, and I love the new way I eat. Just wish I'd started it sooner.
  • That's fantastic, cbelc2! I'm 100% sold on IF or, in my case, it's more like time restricted eating. I rest my digestive system for 18 hours and eat a moderate protein/fat, low carb diet with vitamin supplements during my 6 hour window. Blood work came back excellent. No more diabetes or kidney disease. Feel great and have…
  • You're doing great. The measure of your overall health can be seen in your hair, skin and nails so it looks like you've been getting pretty healthy on IF. I know I have.
  • Debbs, I'm on a 48 hour fast. I have electrolyte powder ready for day 2. Months ago I attempted a 72 hr fast but crashed. You really need the electrolytes. Cut my BP med in half in anticipation of a drop and will monitor it. I'm hoping to take off a few pounds of real fat. I've lost 62 pounds and want to get to 65 (going…
  • Very very good, Ginger. "I love how focused, sharp and energized I feel" by practicing IF too. I have control over my hunger and wouldn't eat any other way. Been doing this for almost 2 years now.
  • cbelc, that is fabulous! Thank you for reminding me of what Dr. Fung said about hunger. He's my hero, and I know what you mean about saving money on groceries, not to mention the time it takes to prepare and eat multiple meals. I'm going to research the Mediterranean diet. I simply eat Moderate protein, moderate fat and…
  • Hi Blessed, you're doing great. I can't go to sleep on an empty stomach either, so I break my fast later in the day (around 5-6 PM). Try though I may, I have to have something before going to sleep. I realize it's a craving, not hunger, but it gets the best of me, and so I eat. It used to be something sweet but now I make…
  • Dennis, you're doing great. I could never have lost those 60 pounds without following IF and a healthy whole foods diet. Just be careful. If you haven't eaten for a while and you break your fast with alcohol, you might find yourself on the floor. Don't ask me how I know... lol
  • You're doing great! I tried a 72 hour fast once and got so sick so I don't even attempt anything over 24 hours now, but you're right. The health benefits are amazing. Keep up the good work!
  • Oh my.... Yes. It was just my opinion based on over 50 years practicing as a Registered Nurse, the last 15 spent as a Case Manager in Disease Management. The ones who were ultra-thin were usually that way because they were sick and had reached a point where they weren't eating. Family members brought them in with their…
  • I'm impressed! You're doing great! As far as hunger, I feel hunger too but it passes after 10-15 minutes and isn't really that bad. I just tell myself then that it's my body signaling me that it's burning up fat and that helps me tolerate it better. I'm going slower than you... 60 pounds in 22 months but I'm content with…
  • GOOD FOR YOU! I find it very easy to follow the principles of IF. I usually give my digestive system a 16 hour rest before eating again and eat protein and low carb whole foods when I do. I'm a completely different person than before I started. The biggest thing is the energy I have now. At 76 I can work circles around my…
  • Eat sensibly at dinner (2 bowls Chicken Vegetable Soup, Salad w/hard boiled egg, avocado, tomato, cheese). Can have (2) scrambled eggs and a small cooked potato w/butter & sour cream as a snack at bedtime if really necessary.... but try not to snack. Drink sparking water and NOT wine.
  • What a transformation. You look fantastic! Way to go!
  • This is a great thread and I'm happy to join. I'm 76 years old. Lost a lot of weight years ago with calorie counting but put it all back on plus and additional 40 pounds. Was bedbound with back pain. Almost had a heart attack, but had cardiac stents were put in. Started on a whole food diet and following IF 21 months ago.…
  • Since following IF, losing 60 pounds and eating a whole food diet, my hair, skin and nails are glowing... and I'm 76 years old! I was losing my hair but now have a lot of regrowth. My nails are tough, and I have to keep them trimmed because they grow so fast; and what's happened to my skin is amazing. I used to have skin…
  • I really "get" why some people were offended. Losing weight and dieting by any means is difficult and here was someone shouting that she'd found THE way. I was like a new Christian convert trying to convert everyone to her way of believing. Truth is, I'd heard about IF years ago but thought it was impossible for me to do.…
  • Right. That was a false assumption on my part and that's why I've apologized. Not everyone can do IF but if they could, I truly believe they would benefit from it along with a healthy unprocessed food diet.
  • Thank you for that. My intention was to help others and that's why I took the time to write a post. After dieting almost my entire life, depriving myself and counting calories, only to gain it all back and getting heavier and heavier each year, I was beside myself with exhilaration to have found something that worked. I…
  • Mary, you and I have a lot in common. My birthday was November 28th too and I've lost 63 pounds since March 2021 by Intermittent Fasting. I'm sure I could have lost more but I haven't been that strict. I've worked up to eating OMAD but sometimes I'll eat TMAD if a social occasion comes up. When I eat two, I try to keep the…
  • Thank you so much! I feel like a "normal person again. I can walk and can shop without the use of a motorized scooter. I can get out of the bed more easily and can get up off the floor all by myself. I feel like I got my life back! (And I did)
  • You look fabulous... but you know that already, don't you. Excellent!!! You're showing us all how it can be done. You're an entirely different woman now and I can imagine how wonderful you feel!
  • What a huge accomplishment. I'm so very happy for you! My goal is -100 and I have 37 to go. It's been 20 months.
  • Thank you! It hasn't really been that hard. Each day gets easier as I don't have a voracious appetite anymore. Not sure what's caused that... could be the intermittent fasting or could be that I'm nourishing my body properly with whole foods and don't eat sweets and junk anymore. But having a large appetite has plagued me…
