Oh, I forgot to mention that the trainer did suggest I increase my protein somewhat. She suggested increasing to a minimum of 100 grams of protein a day. I have added in Greek yogurt most days a week. She suggested Oikos which has 15 grams of protein per container.

Yes @AnnPT77 I will definitely do that. I agree that other people's posts and experiences have helped me along the way as well.

I want to thank everyone who commented on my above post. I decided the best plan was to get the advice of a personal trainer. Last week we did an evaluation and today was our first session. I decided to pay for an introductory package which includes 3 personal training sessions. She has put me on a machine based full body…

@alteredsteve175 Good to hear from you. The California trip sounds like a welcome change to your normal routine as well as your wife getting to spend time with her sister. Glad you've been able to get back to logging and exercise.

@BCLadybug888 Have fun in Hawaii. It's one of our favorite places to vacation as well and we're heading to the Big Island in mid October. The Cruise idea sounds wonderful! Please report back to us how you liked it.

@springlering62 Bodies can be both strange and amazing things!

@springerling62. Really!? Did your cellulite actually pop and then disappear? I find this so interesting. My thighs look awful, and worse as I've lost weight. I've always had cellulite even as a young 20-something. Now not only is it on the back of my legs but the front also is dimpled and rippled. When I'm sitting down…

@Myjourneybeginshere I totally understand where you are coming from. I think the mild depression you mentioned is very common with overweight people. Just the feeling of "I have too much weight to lose...how can I possibly do that...exercise hurts...I'm too old" Everyone here has given you great advice. I understand the…

Wow! I just now read through this thread. I don't have anything to add to it....yet. But as an "older" woman about to start strength training for the first time in a couple of decades, I found the discussion informative and very thought provoking.

Thank you @ninerbuff. I don't know anything about the trainers at the Y. I'll ask around and see if I can get a good recommendation. I'm afraid if I just ask the front desk I would just be assigned to someone with a lot of vacancy in their schedule which may or may not be a good fit.

@CeeBeeSlim. Thank you!

Thank you, @middlehaitch . I'll look into AllPro

Happy 60th Birthday!! Welcome. You'll find a lot of support on this thread.

I agree with the other posters here that the psychological aspect of losing weight is so important. I don't know how many times I've started to lose weight only to stop a month or two later for whatever excuse I had at the time. I'm not sure what has been different this time other than I just think I finally got myself in…

@avatiach It's interesting that you mentioned someone who said she was getting taller. My sister-in-law told me last week she is a half inch taller than she used to be. She is 68, just 2 years younger than me, so I asked her how that could be cause I'm losing height as I get older. She attributed it to yoga.

Welcome @ valjaniszek4220 This is an informative and supportive thread. There are many of us here and throughout the forums that have lost a significant amount of weight. Keep reading and you'll learn so much. I agree with BCLadybug888. Weigh and log every bite. Be consistent and you'll get there.

@AnnPT77 Yes, that sounds like a good idea. I can fine tune things as I get closer to goal. And you're right, gaining back a few pounds is always an option if it seems right for me.
-
@AnnPT77 Yeah, I know your right Ann. I do worry if I lose too much I could look gaunt. I will definitely take it one step at a time.
-
Thank you @ridiculous59 for this information. It makes me feel hopeful that improvement is indeed possible even for us older people. And thank you all for your responses. It is a bummer when you've based your goal weight on a certain height and then that suddenly changes (although I know the change in height was gradual…

Thanks @AnnPT77. Good to know. I'm amazed at the amount of research you have done on so many health related topics. I value your insight.

@AnnPT77 Yes, my osteopenia probably also was a factor for me in my height loss. As far as muscle loss, I have lost and regained 50+ lbs at least 3 or 4 times over the last 40 years. With each regain I am pretty sure the weight regained was mainly fat, not muscle. So that didn't help. Unlike me, you've been consistently…

How many of you are significantly shorter than you were in your younger days? I have been 5' 5" all my adult life, or so I thought. I know it's not unusual to lose height as you age, and I figured I may have lost a little. However I was recently measured as part of a medical research study I'm in for a new flu vaccine and…

@Winnieboo2021 I was in the same boat as you when I started with many of the health issues you mentioned. All of them except for the heart condition. I also started 100+ lbs overweight and I woke up every morning with a very painful lower back. When I first started I could barely last 5 minutes walking slowly around my…

By the way, as other people have said here, your rate of loss is really very good. You are only 10 lbs away from your goal and rate loss is slow at that point. Someone 100 lbs over weight can lose 2 lbs a week, but it would not be a good idea at only 10 lbs over. Even without TOM to deal with, water fluctuations easily…

I would be another counter-example to disprove the theory that you cannot lose weight after menopause. I will be 70 years old 2 months from today. Since Aug 1, 2021, just a little over a year, I have lost 80 lbs. It is doable so long as you are in a calorie deficit.

@ridiculous59 Congrats on the NSV! It's so exhilarating to be able to do something you couldn't do before!
-
@alteredsteve175 Thank you so much, Steve!

@ridiculous59. Thank you!!

Welcome @MRaye803 . This is the best place to come for support and encouragement. CICO works. Be honest with yourself and log everything. The increased activity will help you feel better

Thanks @swimmom_1 and @BCLadybug888. I appreciate your comments. It means a lot to me.
