It is not easy. After some initial fast loss of water weight, one loses according to calorie deficit. I do low carb/keto and I count calories. I've had a slow but steady loss. Everyone is different and no one way of eating is good for everyone. I chose low carb because for me, what I eat makes me feel less hungry.

I'm curious as to what kind of advertisers were talked into paying for a show like this.

Low carb is not for everyone, but it is for me. I don't feel hungry even though I am eating at a deficit. It is not magic, though. As has been pointed out the initial weight loss is water, after that, it is the same kind of slow loss that anyone eating at a sensible deficit experiences. I am pairing it with exercise-…

Losing weight and keeping it off requires a change in the way you eat: less calories going in than expended. There is no magic fairy dust that will do that for you. It is an appealing thought though, and that is why, collectively, people spend millions every year on useless pills, only to fail outright or rapidly gain back…

Weight loss is not linear. I've had weeks at a time where I didn't lose even eating at a deficit, I chalk it up to water or whatever, because ultimately I stick with it and do continue to lose. Of course, you need to pay close attention to your intake, to make sure that your calorie intake does not exceed your calories…

I don't think there are 'bad' foods in the way you mean. There are some foods I wouldn't eat, like fugu sashimi, but that is just a personal risk preference.
-
Perhaps you need a more challenging job that leaves less time for considering the snacks. There is no question that some people eat out of boredom.

I don't cheat. If I am hungry I will take a day and eat at maintenance, then go back to deficit eating. Eating less calories, exercising, all of that was a big step for me, no way I'm going to risk all of that by cheating. One can easily ruin a week's worth of deficit by blindly eating whatever one wants during a 'cheat'…

Afour egg omelet with cheese.

I will just quietly eat keto and stay out of keto wars, keto magic, and ketodrama. I came here for help to lose weight, not my mind. If asked I will repeat my mantra, that 'all diets that ultimately involve CICO are created equal, except those that involve ingesting green slime'.

It is not a keto problem. If you binge you aren't going to lose as fast. What I did if I was feeling particularly hungry for a few days was eat at maintenance for a few days. I wouldn't lose, but I wouldn't gain either. Figure out your binge triggers and then try to avoid them. Don't eat at too large of a deficit if it…

1) Sugar Free jello 2) A beverage, iced tea or water with lime, one of those 32 oz ones so it takes a long time to finish. Sometimes when you are hungry you are actually thirsty. 3) The thought of a nude picture of yourself on the refrigerator (not the actual picture, many people have others stop by for a visit) 4)…

Good point.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc? You may have started losing again anyway.

I'm not understanding the adversarial tone I think I hear here. If one person wants to eat smaller portions, and the other person wants to pig out but pay via increased activity or subsequent lower calories, it's all good. People do what is best for them.
-
As I said, do what works for you. For me, part of the problem with 'once a year' is that my subconscious can really run with that. Once a year there are turkey and trimmings at Thanksgiving. Candy on Halloween. Birthday cake. Chocolate eggs and marshmallow bunnies on Easter. I could go on, but you get the point. One could…

I'm one of those who isn't going to pig out. I can enjoy the same dishes, and simply take a smaller portion. I still get to enjoy the fun, the gatherings, the season. Every person is different, do what works for you.

Life is all about choices. You've made a great first step by saying that your assignments are excuses not to exercise, so you realize that you do have choices and you have made some, and are not happy with them.

SF jello almost every day, with a little kool whip.
-
I've eaten at maintenance instead of deficit if I feel hungrier. I don't 'cheat' because if I didn't have some structure I could easily destroy a weeks worth of deficit eating.

I know! We can call it the wolf diet!! And books can be written on how to eat as much as possible as fast as possible, guest starring those people who go to contests at state fairs and eat like 30 chili dogs at a sitting. Think of the possibilities! The program could be sold to employers, and statutory changes made, so…

You are going to lose fat if you eat at a calorie deficit. Period. No matter what you eat. You have to decide for yourself what those calories will consist of: what you like, what will fill you up enough so you are not starving, and a nod to good nutrition. High, low, medium carbs, it is all a matter of preference and a…

I have a home weightlifting bench and weights, dumbells, curl bar, bought second hand for very little. Everything is on one side of my office, which does not look as open and spacious as it used to, but the benefits outweigh the decorating setback.

Doctors almost always have an 'on call' doctor you can speak with by calling the office, so that you can get prescriptions called to your local pharmacy, so that takes care of the short term medical issue until your doctor returns. Meanwhile, you can book additional time with your therapist. You can get a lot of support…

I've started lifting a couple months ago, what definitely helps is having a set of weights at home so I can lift on my own schedule and not have to travel to a gym.

I do not have a cheat day. If I feel hungrier that usual I will switch to maintenance calories, I did this for a week one time, then went back to deficit eating. Cheating would open the door to some pretty drastic overeating for me, I feel more comfortable having a calorie ceiling that is flexible up to maintenance.
-
I agree with this, those little few extras that one doesn't pay attention to can add up. Also, take some time and browse some of the threads here, you will see that weight loss generally takes a while, and it is not alway linear, you won't lose the same all the time and may lose a while, stay at the same weight a while,…

I empathize. A year would have been nice. But hopefully, your losing streak (or maintenance) is still going on, the logging is a tool, not an end.

I found this past year that I could freeze avocados whole. Sometimes they are on sale during the summer for about 40 cents each, so I bag up a bunch and freeze them. The texture changes, but if you mash them and stir into salad dressings or use for guacamole the frozen ones are fine.

Lack of self confidence is not related to weight. Perhaps talking with a professional might be a good first step, you need to feel good about yourself to be happy.
