Low carb gadget: Microwave omelet maker
I bought one of these recently and am an enthusiastic fan. Easy to clean. I start my day with a 4 egg omelet, and this omelet maker makes it easy to add fillings. This morning I had a small chopped green onion from my garden, a chopped raw mushroom, and a slice of cheese tucked in the omelet. I bought it as part of a set,…

Bone broth?
Supposedly bone broth is a great way to replenish electrolytes and has many fine qualities without adding a lot of calories. I made chicken bone broth today. Some recipes call for cooking the broth for 12 hours but I cooked it for 3 and that seemed quite enough. Have you made it and how long did you cook it?

Mad at myself, starting again
Did keto in the recent past, lost 40 lbs, starting eating carbs again and gained it back. I have resolved this time to stay with it. This time, I don't know why, the 'keto flu' was worse, but I'm past that now. Has that happened to anyone else?

Going from keto to lower carb?
I am thinking of expanding the kinds of foods I can eat, and eat more carbs than may allow me to stay in ketosis. Keto is working for me, but I find myself wanting to eat foods with more carbs from time to time. And the occasional dinner of pizza. Not to the point of exceeding my calorie limit, just to vary what I eat. Has…

Aggravation kills appetite
I just did my taxes this morning, ended up owing $$ to the IRS, didn't even think of breakfast until 1130AM.

Weight
I am pretty new to lifting. Rather than ever-increasing weights, can I just work up to a moderate amount and just stay with that and maybe increase reps? I read some online article about exercise that says that if a weight is not difficult to lift after 8 reps or so, that it doesn't do any good.

Chicken curry
I made a wonderful chicken curry, very spicy, and instead of rice used cooked chopped spinach seasoned with the curry sauce. It was spicy enough so I could only eat small bites, and since it took longer to finish it seemed like it was more satisfying. I can't eat stuff that is Thai hot, but love mild to moderately spiced…

Tree trimming and Vivofit
I have one of those tree trimming saws and used it the other day to trim off some branches from the mulberry tree in the front yard. The next day I saw that I had a badge for a double goal. Apparently the Vivofit was recording the arm movements used in sawing the branches as steps. It was a lot of work so may have…

Sharing food
For all of you that have families and cook up two sets of meals, I respect your dedication and energy. For me, visitors who stop by can either eat high carb meals prior to coming over, or eat the kind of food I make for myself. My son visited yesterday, so for lunch we each had a large burger, no bread, with cheese, and a…

Flexibility to prevent binges
For some reason the past few days I have been hungrier than usual. Instead of wrestling with myself to keep the deficit I have set up, I've been eating at maintenance for a few days. While I won't lose during this time, the added flexibility has prevented a binge so I won't gain and destroy the progress I have already made.

Instead of rice?
I'm going to make chicken curry, I have been used to serving it on top of rice. What are some low carb ideas to replace the rice?

What did you do with your toaster?
It has been a couple of months since I started low carb eating and of course no toast was made during that time. I finally put my toaster in a cabinet this morning. I'm not going to get rid of it, there are recipes for low carb breads using almond flour and the like, I haven't made any yet but might in the future.

I was all ready to fall off the wagon but...
I've been doing fairly well staying within my carb/calorie limit. Today I decided to have a big plate of fried calamari (fried in almond flour not wheat flour). It was delicious, but about halfway through the plateful I was full, and just stopped eating. I'm may have gone a little over my calories for the day, but before I…

Calories: Strict or casual?
Everyone is different, but I'm finding that for me, a fairly strict plan of what to eat when helps me stay on track. I pretty much know how many calories/foods I'm going to be eating at what time of day. Eventually I might become a little more casual but right now, this is working, and with the built in snack times, I find…

Time change
Anyone else having trouble adapting to the time change? I had everything down so that I pretty much ate meals and snacks at certain times, it is going to take a little time to readjust because my body of course doesn't realize the time is different now.

Defeating calorie creep through exercise
The calorie creep definitely exists. I'm finding that while I am able to stick to my general daily meal/calorie plan, a few little extras like additional salad dressing and cheese in my salads are upping my daily calories. I look forward to my daily lunch salad and the extras make it even more appealing. I am beginning to…

Dessert
Have not been eating desserts since I started low carb but all of a sudden got a hankering for something sweet. I found a dessert that works for me. I whipped a quart of heavy whipping cream with a little Splenda, dropped 1/2 cup scoops of it on wax paper and froze, then when frozen peeled the scoops and put them in a…

Calorie deficit, building muscle?
This is supposedly difficult. Why? Can't the muscles use ketones? What exactly happens to a muscle when it is used in strength training and there is a calorie deficit?

Ice Cream?
Anyone ever make ice cream with Splenda? I recently got a Cuisinart ice cream maker and made ice cream once with it prior to keto, and it was really good. Would like to do that again if Splenda would work.

Are you going to keep your fat clothes?
I've read a lot of weight loss stories but also some people saying they regained weight and are trying again. I plan on some cute new outfits and plan on not keeping my fat clothes around 'just in case', it seems as if that would almost be a nod to future possible backsliding. What do you think?

Safe or not safe?
Bought a bunch of used weightlifting stuff, great deal, steel weights, came with two homemade Olympic bars. I estimate they are near Olympic weight of 44 lbs, made out of two inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC with standard steel handles on either side. They look and feel sturdy, but I have never seen a PVC bar (but I'm not…

Weightlifting and low carb and trying to lose weight
Goal is to lose 100, have lost 20 so far. Also want to increase strength and muscle mass, have started lifting, (found a set of weights on CL for very reasonable, weights and stuff were rusty so I cleaned and painted them, now have a 'weight room' plus stair stepper and stationary bicycle in my home). I've read so much…
