I walk on the treadmill, but have the same problem with boredom. I use the Zombies, Run app. It's fun.

Thanks! Today at the gym I did some triceps pushdowns on one of the machines. I'll give that a try for a while.

@kathygk56: What kind of exercise are you doing for your arms? I'm 58, and have been yo-yo dieting for most of my life. At my highest, I was nearly 275 lbs. I lost over 100 lbs long ago and regained it--I'm sure many of you could sing this song. I'm now at 183. My doctor says another 20 pounds would be good, as that takes…

@CupcakesMom2: You can do it! Have a great vacation!

Followup: I had a great time. I ate, drank (not that much drinking, actually), and was merry. I walked a lot. I came home Thursday evening. Friday morning, I weighed myself and saw a 2.5 lb gain. Some of that was obviously water, because Saturday morning, I had "lost" 1.5 pounds overnight. So I've got a net gain of 1…

@chimaerandi: Thanks for the reassurance. I know these things in my head, but it helps to hear it from someone else.

Same here.

I monitor total calories and carbs per meal. The latter is because I'm diabetic.

And I have another EatSmart model. It's very consistent, and available at Amazon for $35. http://www.amazon.com/Eatsmart-Precision-Bathroom-Technology-440-Pounds/dp/B0032TNPOE?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00

@Goul22: I'm traveling alone, so, no plate-sharing. I will just have to find other ways to be moderate.

-
@Goul22: I assume you use the alcohol wipes to clean your fingers after testing? I've always heard that using it beforehand can throw off the results. I also posted this question on a travel forum, and had several Amsterdamers tell me that they have diabetic friends who test--discretely--in bars and restaurants without any…

I love pizza. Last night I had a mushroom slice and a large salad. Yum! Worth every calorie.

I'm facing a similar situation, as I'm going on a 10-day vacation in mid-April. I asked my doctor (I am a T2 diabetic) how I should handle eating. She said that while I'm in Europe I can eat as I like, since I will be doing a lot of walking, and it isn't long enough to get into trouble. We did not discuss what "as I like"…

The first time I scanned a food package, my phone asked if MFP had permission to access the camera. Once I clicked 'yes', it worked. No extra apps required.

Thank you for the replies. I feel more comfortable now.

Thanks for the suggestions! It looks as though pre--cooking is the way to go, since I don't have much patience for cooking when I come home from work.

Shrimp... yum! Thanks for the suggestion.

I have an interim goal weight, which is to get from obese BMI to overweight. I'll hit that in 20 pounds. Beyond that, I'm not sure.

I had the Edy's chocolate for my evening snack... yummy!

Meh. They are not that exciting. Dextrose, citric acid, and a little bit of flavoring. But they keep me from going low at a minimal expense of calories, and they're cheaper than glucose tablets at the pharmacy.

Like several others here, I listen to the Zombies, Run! app, combined with music (Pandora Classic Rock Power Workout station). I was recently delighted that my gym has some new treadmills with scenic videos on the console. It gives me something to look at that isn't the timer.

Today, I tested just before exercising. I was at 102. I ate 2 rolls of Smarties (12 g. carbs, 50 calories). When I finished exercising, I was at 100. So I guess that was enough to keep me at a safe level.

I save calories for an evening snack most days. Microwave popcorn is something I love and is filling.

It's just one day. Make up your mind that tomorrow will be a good day. Don't try to starve yourself to make up for today--just keep within your calories tomorrow. You can do it.

I belong to the local YMCA.* It's just a few minutes from my house, and directly on my route home from my job. (I usually go after work). * The members are varied in size and shape and age and level of fitness, so I don't feel out of place. * The new treadmills have consoles with scenic videos, which makes it easier for me…

I recently tried oat bran, and noticed the similarity, too. I cook it in the microwave.

@shinycrazy Thanks for the suggestions!
