Ugh! I, too, have diverticulitis attacks. The trick is figuring out what foods might trigger it, usually it's fatty foods, or certain proteins. Sometimes, just overeating. For me, salmon is an absolute trigger. Salmon for dinner, diverticulitis attack by noon the next day. Which sucks, cuz I love salmon. They used to tell…

Where MyPlate has been really helpful in our household was in figuring out what to eat, as opposed to the focus here on how MUCH to eat. It's easy to say "I ate under 1500 calories this week" but it's a lot harder to say "I ate a complete, balanced diet at under 1500 calories this week". With my husband teetering on the…

Maybe you can try making it a treat? Tell yourself that you can have one bag of peanut M&Ms on Friday. That way, you have something to look forward to on Friday and you don't have to feel like you're totally denying yourself.

Start at 1800. If you aren't seeing any change after a few weeks, drop down to 1700. If you don't see change there, go down to 1600. Don't starve yourself or make unhealthy intake decisions (Very few people can maintain for long on 1200, and we are small and sedentary). Look at a healthy loss as around a pound a week, and…

BUT- even though "starvation mode" as popularly understood is a common myth, eating too little for your energy level and body type can cause serious health problems. If you start having headaches, feeling fatigued, getting sick more often, or notice your hair or fingernails getting brittle, you might wanna up your intake.

2100 burned from exercise? Burning 2100 just from activities would be ... well, maybe for a high-performance athlete it would be possible. Or for your total daily expenditure? I have a Garmin, so I don't know how Fitbit does it, but Garmin adds everything into your TDEE, and then shows on your chart what counted as…

Eh, life is about living. To me, a bit of something delicious that I'm craving is totally worth it. Just throw in some extra exercise the next couple days and enjoy yourself!

Not sure what the event is that you need to lose weight for, two weeks, especially that close to your goal, isn't going to be easy. Add some weight training to see if you can redistribute some of that weight rather than shift it entirely- it likely won't make too much difference on that short of a time-frame, but it can't…

I had a clerk at our local Petco tell me that cats naturally eat peas in the wild when I asked why she was recommending a pea-protein based diet for a carnivorous animal. Beware, Gardeners! LOCK UP YOUR PEAS! Anyway, as to cats bringing in Twinkies and Little Debbie Snack Cakes, etc, it comes down to your own will-power.…

Horizon Organic cottage cheese is SO GOOD! but for some reason, my husband likes the Lucerne low-fat stuff, which is nearly as tasty. We may have to start having his & hers cottage cheese in the fridge...

macgurlnet, most the organic eaters I know are also the healthiest. :My thirty or forty foodie friends outweigh your two. :) Honestly, it doesn't matter too much, but where I find it makes a huge difference in taste is in dairy products. Good organic milk just simply tastes better than the other stuff. I also worry about…

When a better application comes along, maybe. :)

I'm not low-carb myself, but my husband is pre-diabetic so I stopped buying bread. If we have carbs in the house, it's whole grains like oats, quinoa, etc. I haven't found a 'low carb bread' that's worth buying- they all taste like a cement mixer tipped over in a grain-roasting facility. Bread is now a treat and I find I…

We use a local indie pizza restaurant, too, Generally, I find something close and estimate. Early on, I took a leftover slice, broke it down and weighed each ingredient, checked it against the USDA database and added it up, then found an entry in the MFP database that's close. Yes, I do the pita-bread in the oven homemade…

Small lowfat corn tortilla, 1 oz of shredded lite cheese, jalapeno rings- tuck under broiler until the cheese is melted and the jalapenos start to crisp. Spicy, satisfying, and around 120-130 cals depending on the brand of cheese and tortilla.

Once a week, but sometimes I'll hop on just to see the differences in my weight after things like a treat meal of Indian food, etc. It's fun to see how my weight can explode up by 3 or 4 pounds in response to hormonal changes or high-sodium meals, etc.

I tried it a couple different ways as research for a book, but really, my body does best with small meals evenly spaced during my waking hours. I need to keep my blood sugar balanced or I turn into that grumpy lady down the block who always yells at the kids to stay off her lawn.

This time, it was my face first. People would ask me if I'd had a haircut or something. Then it was my legs, butt, thighs, probably because I'm walking so much. I really do wish my chest would go, even just a bit. It's stupid to see my waist getting thinner and still have these enormous boobs.

My husband is that way. He can be already full, but he'll force himself to eat the last 1/4 cup of beans or 1/2 a potato so that it doesn't go to waste. He's getting better about it, slowly, because being pre-diabetic has forced him to reconsider what and how he eats. In our area we have an excellent 'green waste'…

I like having a splurge meal, usually Saturday brunch with bacon, eggs, waffles- the works!, but rarely do I go over my maintenance calories. I usually "bank" an extra few hundred exercise calories for it, and we make sure we get out and go for a hike or long walk to help balance things out. I found a huge mental shift for…

You can absolutely do exercises at home. You'll probably outgrown your 8 lb free weights pretty quickly and want to upgrade to 10 or 15. (I have the dumbbells from Golds that you can buy the weight plates separately and just up my weights as I increase strength.) Here's a great 15 minute a day starter video- as you build…

I log my exercise, only eat back half of calories if I feel I need it. (Hey, I know when I'm hungry!) But it really helps me to look back later and see how what I change with my workouts and exercise affects the weight I lose and the changes to my body. It's more to keep my own records of my progress than anything else.
-
1) Keeping a white board on the fridge so I can record what I put into recipes as I'm cooking. 2) I try not to wait until I'm hungry to eat something. 3) "saving up" calories for weekends, special events, etc.

Every body reacts to the hormones differently. Once you've completed the donation process and gotten your body back to it's natural balance, any weight you gain, if any, should fade away. By the way, I think you're doing a wonderful thing!

This forum has been invaluable to me in terms of support! If I can do this, you can do this. :) Just remember that you are worth it.

I'm big on wonton soup when I'm sick. My mother's go-to for sick-tummy was always poached egg on white toast. To this day, I can't eat poached egg on white toast, but at least it will get some protein into you in an easily digestible form. Hope you feel better soon!

What works is burning more calories than you consume. Are you logging? Are you logging accurately and being honest with yourself both about how much you're consuming and how much you're exercising? If so, then this will work. Go to The Success Stories forum if you don't believe me. There are thousands of us who have lost…

BWAHAHAHA!!!!! I'm coping with temptation just fine! It came along, it tempted, and I said, "Cool, let's do it!" I just ate my entire days worth of calories at brunch. entire. days. worth. Guess I'll be walking the rest of the day... how many miles is 1300 calories?

Vitamin E lotions and oils can also help a little.

I have a Vivofit, (replaced my Fenix, which was too big and bulky on my tiny wrist and I was afraid I'd break it). The thing that's surprised me most is how much I like to have the sleep data. I can say "I didn't sleep well." And look back and see when I was awake and figure out why. (I'm having some dental pain- surgery…
