I was disappointed when I couldn't find acorn squash at the grocery store to go with dinner. Disappointed. Over acorn squash. ??? I got yams instead, but... I really wanted that squash!

It's a hip-hop dance workout. It looks like lots of fun, but my back can't take the impact of dance anymore. Our community center has a hip-hop dance fitness class that looks like a blast, too. From reading Amazon reviews, people either love it or hate the Cize, with one of the biggest complaints being that it's too…

You can do it! You might add weight training to your weight loss program and see if you can get a little bit of recomp going, too- sometimes a little shift in shape is all it takes to get that gown to fit.

SW-180 CW-158 GW-130 And yeah, sometimes that number seems very far away. I try to set my goals in 20 pound increments so I don't get overwhelmed. My husband is taking a very different approach, since his ultimate goal is better health, not just weight related. (Diagnosed prediabetic and his sat fat numbers were so high…

I just try to make sure I have enough calories saved during the week to offset my weekends. When we agreed to start trying to eat healthier and lose weight, the one compromise my husband and I agreed not to make was giving up our weekend brunches and I LOVE my waffles. :) I still try to make good choices, but sometimes,…

It sounds like your problem is more about your mindset than your intake? If you're still set on 'starve/binge' cycles, it sounds like you may need some counseling support to help adjust your mental thinking around food. Is there an Overeaters Anonymous near you? Are you hungry on 1400 a day? Or are you not able to eat all…

I, too, love to bake, and love to eat. And for a true gourmet, things like black bean brownies (black bean bricks sweetened with chocolate) are not adequate baking substitutes. My husband being prediabetic and on a low-carb diet has put a huge slash through most of my baking experiments. I've started experimenting with…

Post surgery, especially spinal, your body is really stressed, and if you're gearing up for a second one, you probably shouldn't be trying to lose, but to maintain. :) Talk to your doctor and your surgeon and see what they recommend, and if they have ideas. Hope the stimulator works well for you. I've heard good things…

I started at 180 and just this morning weighed in at 158.8, so I know you're struggle. You can do this! Don't get pissed, get even. Tell yourself that you deserve the body you want, set a healthy goal and calorie limit, and go get it!

Ugh, I hear your pain. Before I was diagnosed with hypothyroid, my doctor had me on a medically supervised 1000 calorie diet, and I was gaining. Gaining weight at 1000 calories. That's what finally got her taking my "I keep gaining weight and I'm exhausted all the time!" complaints seriously. It took about three months to…

I like my Garmin, and I find it's two most important features for me are the sleep tracking, and the 'time to move' feature, since I work from home at a stationary desk job (well, okay today, it's a sofa job, but it's Saturday.) I like the metrics and really understanding what my total daily expenditure is, and how it…

Me, too, usually with hot flashes. Yay hormones. Chips could cause palpitations if your blood pressure was already hypertensive and the increased sodium pushed you over, but in that case, you STILL need to see a doctor because having undiagnosed hypertension is a huge problem all on it's own. Short answer- Not normal. Call…

I found the elliptical killed my knees. My doctor told me exactly the same thing, with the addition of recommending me to physical therapy (waiting on insurance approval for the PT now). He's worried that an old knee injury led to me using my leg muscles wrong and thinks I need to retrain my leg. bleh. I bought one of…

Belly fat is usually the very last to go. :) There's nothing you can do to target weight loss in any particular area, and as long as you're in calorie deficit and not drinking, like a gallon of whole milk a day, I really doubt milk has anything to do with it.

I would take that brownie, I'd love every single itty bitty crumb of it. :) And then, I'd look up the calories in it, divide it by how much I need to add to my workouts to burn it away, and just walk it off. Cuz I love brownies. And walking it off is worth it. Now, if the neighbor showed up with coconut meringues? That I'd…

How do I always keep bananas on hand? Hide them from my husband, especially if he's in 'protein smoothie' mode.

Honey, don't make your crazy about those 11 pounds. Your body is fighting a fight, a big one, and you're going to need those resources. Eat as healthily as you can, follow your treatment plan, and take the best care you can of your body. I know it's scary, and I know your body is changing faster than you can keep track of,…

You might gently suggest that he talk to his doctor about his weight loss journey and ask for a referral to a dietary specialist. Honestly, it took our doctor telling my husband quite bluntly that if he didn't change, he was going to end up on meds for diabetes and high cholesterol and probably die to really listen and…

Kaylee! Kaylee! I used to do a lot of cosplay, but not so much anymore, although my husband and I are toying with putting together Ichabod and Katrina from Sleepy Hollow.

Bacon, no. Steak? Yes. But I don't worry about in terms of calorie counting- I'd rather over-calc than under calc. My body knows it's getting less cholesterol in the end.

It can happen. Surgery is a traumatic experience for your body, as well as the pain and trauma of injury and the recovery. Don't panic- It will come back off as your body heals and regulates again. You might also try checking your calories for a week or two- eat at the higher end of your TDEE and then slowly back off…

Oh. I was hoping there was free popcorn in here. As you were. :) I buy the Orville Redenbacher Lightly Salted. It makes six cups, and I just portion it into even halves- I take half, my husband takes half. Is one of us possibly getting a few extra kernels of corn? Yeah, maybe? And if we were eating popcorn every day that…

What's your BMR? What's your TDEE? How many calories are you consuming? You should be eating between your BMR and your TDEE in order to lose weight? If you're losing, and you're eating enough to feel strong and healthy (not weak and deprived) you're probably doing fine.

WAY to go to everyone on this thread who has managed to quit drinking entirely or cut down their intake! It is hard, especially if you're in a situation where all of your social interactions include drinking. I LOVE my wine, but you know, now that I allow myself a glass or two a month, or on a special occasion, I find I…

If you want to help your liver and kidneys, just drink a little extra water. These "cleanses" don't really do much of anything except further stress your body and mess up your digestion.

San Jose, nice. I'm in the East Bay!

Eye-opening, isn't it?! I'd always been the opposite, thinking that it was fats that were out of control in my diet, and come to find out that I was eating way too much rice, potatoes, bread, etc. "But it's whole grain! It's healthy!" Except that it comes with a whopping payload if you overeat. The other thing that logging…

... except when I'm hula hooping and my pants fall down.... then I just feel like an idiot. ;)

I understand! I've lost 20 pounds total now, and from the front, I'm starting to look pretty good, but from the back? BUTTER ROLL CITY! bleah. It would be so nice if we could just spot-reduce and pick and choose where to lose, but alas, gotta just keep working.
