  • I have a 300+ pound friend who's told me, on multiple occasions, that she "barely eats anything," claims it's her meds that have made her pack on the pounds. She claims to only eat like 1000 calories a day. But I've watched her. She always has a Starbucks Frappuccino or can of coke in hand, and when she's stressed she…
  • There was a British show a few years back where they had private detectives follow around volunteers who claimed they were obese despite "barely eating anything." 100% of the time they were eating way more than they reported. I also got to see this phenomenon firsthand when a friend told me her medication made her gain…
  • I Never trust an MLM pitch. They're only trying to rope you in so they can sell you their crappy overpriced stuff, or add you as a seller to their pyramid. I guarentee that whatever "food" Optavia is selling, you can get the equivalent from the grocery store at a fraction of the price. And probably higher quality too.
  • Yeah if I don't take vitamin D supplements in the winter I go weird. I get depressed, paranoid and prone to randomly bursting into tears over nothing. Good ol' Seasonal Affective Disorder.
  • 121 is very low. My husband is the same height and when he was 130lbs you could count his ribs and see the muscles moving under his skin, and you're 9lbs below that!
  • Nah, I work out in my underwear. I'm at home so no one's going to see me. You can also try working out in very small bursts, like every time you go to the bathroom do two squats, or put a pull-up bar in a commonly used hallway and every time you go under the bar you have to do a chin-up.
  • Yes it won't be perfect, but it'll help people make more informed choices, like a muffin has almost as many calories as 2 hamburgers at McDonald's. Bet most people wouldn't realize that off the top of their head.
  • Starvation mode only affects people who are actually, you know, starving. As in they've only eaten a bowl of rice this week. If you're eating the recommended 1200-1800 calories a day MFP suggests, you aren't starving and so don't worry about starvation mode.
  • Yes my old roommate did these regularly. He's 300+ pounds and recently diagnosed diabetic. Needless to say it did not help.
  • OK, putting aside the rape culture talk, if you're uncomfortable going out at night there's plenty of exercises you can do in your living room. There's tons of free exercise videos on YouTube and if you've the room/money an exercise bike can do wonders. My friend likes to put on an episode of a show and just go. Myself, I…
  • Uhhhh, in that case all thin people should have severe nerve damage?
  • Never had an issue with weight gain on PPIs, but they do give me soul crushing depression. Rabeprazole was the worst, I'd take it at 1pm and at 7pm on the dot every day I was having hysterical crying fits. I'm not a depressed person usually. Nexium I had better luck with. The depression was subtler and more manageable.…
  • Maybe start at a 2500/day goal for a few weeks and see how that goes. Once you get used to that you can find ways to cut down more calories. It gets easier as you become more educated and aware of calories. You should still lose a bit on 2500/day, seeing as that's still 2000 less than your average. Also maybe pick up a new…
  • Geeze, how beaten down you must be if he's like "Imma take the door off the bathroom to make sure you aren't texting other men in the shower." And you respond "Sounds legit." Therapy, for both you and the kid.
  • The solution to the obesity epidemic is sea salt! Of course! How could we have missed that! Ugh!
  • Had something similar, it came from an extreme diet change, though in my case it was going from healthy home grown farm food to *kitten* boxed college fare. The doctors never figured out what it was except that eating anything acidic made it worse. They eventually put me on ppi (proton pump inhibitors) called Nexium that…
  • Vancouver's very health conscious, walkable, and has a very large food culture, but they're all about quality over quantity. Lots of Asian cooking influence. I love visiting there. In contrast the US, whenever we go down there (from Canada) we are baffled by their massive food portions, one American portion feeds two-to…
  • My super skinny husband can tuck in a 4000 calorie day easy. Burgers, fries, pizza, tons of booze. "Wow," people say, "how lucky he is to be able to eat so much and never gain weight!" They only see that and not the next day at home chilling where the only thing he eats in the preceeding 24 hour period is 3 hard-boiled…
  • Selective memory is totally a thing and should be more talked about in the weight loss community. I had a friend who, when I recalled a memory of something we both were present for, she would often have a totally different version of the event than I did. And the more personal investment she had in the event (ie something…
  • Stress and bad diet makes my hair fall out in giant, drain-clogging clumps. Fixed it by eating better (more fruits and veggies and all around proper cooking, and less empty calorie junk food) and making some lifestyle adjustments for a less stressed life.

  • This is a woman who only thinks in extremes. You're either obese or anorexic no exceptions in her mind. As for "try and be fat and happy," noooo thank you. When I was overweight i was miserable. I was depressed, my body perpetually ached, I was constantly tired, constantly sick. My hobby was napping because it was all I…
  • Ditto on trying to get some protein and fat in that diet. Can you do eggs? Do you know what's exactly causing your stomach problems? Like, just had a friend learn she was allergic to corn, which is in everything. Knowing would help expand your diet because currently it seems kind of limiting and if it's not filling you up…
  • I believe less in the fate of the individual and more the fate of people of a whole, every person's existence weaving together like a... blanket, or something. Blanket destiny? And then there's a small subset of people, inventors of the important *kitten* the rest of us use like computers and immunizations to improve the…
  • In my experience the hookup people are only a small subset of people, usually found at bars, clubs and craigslist. Most people want a long term relationship you just have to know where to look, and get a little lucky.
  • Don't have them in the house if possible.
  • You can get appetite suppressants from your doctor but even those it's recommended you try and go without since they can have some unpleasant side effects and don't always work. Everything else on the market, don't bother. Just eat some rocks off the road they'd be just as effective.

  • Too much of vitamin supplement makes me puke, if you're throwing up 20-40 minutes after taking it it's almost definitely that. For me it's the iron content.
  • I usually play standard, don't really have a favorite song, just a huge stack of PS2 DDR games I picked up from the thrift shop awhile ago. So much cheesy 2000s pop...
  • I do a lot of DDR for exercise, it's great for those of us who despise running. A forty minute session on the higher level songs will have me dripping with sweat, haha.
  • As someone who was once part of a catty gossipy friend group, until they unsurprisingly turned on me for reasons I am not entirely blameless in, I can understand why women gossip and backstab. It's quite the power rush to judge other women and put them below you. And then someone comes along and is doing better than you?…
