  • It all depends on the knee injury. I had a torn MCL and meniscus and was able to do planks without issue. The docs and physical therapists wanted me to do everything I could to strengthen around the knee without impact on it. So they cleared me for planks as long as I didn't have pain during/after them. But bursitis is…
  • ^^^ Yes, definitely talk to a specialist about it. I assumed it was a specialist that diagnosed you and not your primary. My sister is a physical therapist. Definitely good to know one when you have injuries piling up!
  • I'm going to back what Steve said on this. I tore up my knee multiple times playing hockey through college. Slapped a brace on it and was "good to go", aside from that whole healing thing. I love working out and staying active. But I regret not doing what I should have done when it came to knee injuries. Put a list of…
  • I wear mine except when it will get soaked (pool, shower, etc). I love working out. But I sit at a desk most of the day at work, so it is a nice reminder to get up and walk some stairs every hour.
  • The first time I went through the whole thing, I saw great results. The first two weeks were tough to get through, but it worked well.
  • @jemhh , thank you for the response. I'll give the after work weight lifting a try unless someone posts up a good reason to do it the other way. I'm pretty wired from 5:45am through 11pm every day, so I don't think the energy levels will suffer much. I'm usually pretty amped up after work is done (who isn't right? haha).…
  • I'm near Dallas.
  • I'm doing a ton of stick handling work and there is an outdoor inline rink close to my house that I will be spending time at as well. Just seeing if there are any cool new things out there that hockey players are doing for dry land training. I appreciate the responses.
  • There is some great information in this thread that I'm definitely taking an applying to myself. Thanks for the post OP!
  • Hi, I'm 36 and working on getting back into hockey shape by June.
  • Near Dallas Texas.
  • Just north of Dallas.
  • Velvet Revolver - She Builds Quick Machines... One of my favorite songs... https://youtu.be/4Hqe3jMHhvA
  • I love the ARC. It is the only cardio equipment that I can do HIIT on without my bad knee hurting. As far as strength training equipment goes, I like the dumbbells...haha.
  • The first week was tough, I'm not going to lie. I had a bottle of Jack and a bottle of vodka in the house. I put post it notes on them that simple said "Think". I also put a counter timer on my phone, so when I unlock my phone, that is the first thing I see. Those two things helped me a lot, but it wasn't easy. I also…
  • Great job everyone. It is cool to see so many of you with similar goals and some that have done a great job for a really long time. @cmorris30316 That is a great goal. And great job on the weight loss so far. Once you hit that goal, you can obviously re-evaluate and go from there. Keep it up! @hockeysniper8 I hear you.…
  • I'm not trying to do the whole "I'm right, you're wrong" thing. I'm just not sure what I said that pissed her off. But I know my body, I know what has worked for me in the past. And if/when there are times I feel more sore than I should or if the knee starts bothering me, I'm obviously going to take some time to rest up so…
  • Like I said in my original post, I am training to get back into hockey after I had a knee injury resulting from a hit. And having done this type of workout for so long, I know it gets me in shape to play at the level I want to play at. I'm not doing it for bonus points or so I can log a bunch of stuff on here. @JoRocka…
  • Well...I have passed the 60 day mark without a drink. I've had plenty of opportunities and been in plenty of situations where I could have had a drink, but I didn't. Still loving the difference it has made for me in so many ways. I hope everyone is doing well.
  • Haha. I never said I know more than you do. I asked what kind of problems it is going to cause. I've consulted with my doctors and physical therapist over the years about it and they all give me the go ahead. But I never said I know more than anyone or that they do...I was just pointing out that I did consult people that…
  • Just reread my response...not trying to sound like an a-hole. :)
  • I'm 35 and I've done that since I was 18, aside from when I tore up my knee from a hit. My doc says it is ok, my physical therapist says it is ok, and I feel great doing it. What kind of problems is it going to cause?
  • MMA is definitely a great workout. If I were you, I wouldn't do both in the same day since you are new to working out. But mixing in MMA and doing Insanity other days would be great.
  • I'm doing heavy lifting during my lunch break in the work gym and then Insanity each night. So those are my two workouts per day. I'm loving it. @AdaR25 Insanity by itself is a pretty good workout. Combined with the right nutrition it'll get you in great shape. It all starts with proper nutrition though. Workouts will…
  • My sister is a physical therapist and when I had an issue with this, she told me to buy a pack of marbles and a small tub to put them in. Using your toes, pick each marble up and set it in the tub. Do that on both feet a couple of times a day and it should help. I haven't had an issue since I started doing that several…
  • I second the group classes. If you're new to lifting, find a class that uses some weights and just talk to the instructor, explaining that you're new to the class and to lifting. Most (good) instructors love new people joining the class. They will likely keep a closer eye on you to adjust some of your form when needed.…
  • I lift 5 or 6 days per week, depending on how busy the weekends are. I do cardio 6 days. I also stretch and foam roll daily. My rest day is usually spent walking, stretching, foam rolling, and working around the house. But my rest day is almost always on the weekend. My work has a gym, so working out here is easy.
  • It is so much fun, skating with them. The 2 year old loves it, even though he hasn't quite figured it out yet. The teenager is catching on quick and asks me every day to skate. One of those proud dad moments for sure. haha. I've been skating since I was little and played hockey forever, so I can skate about as well as I…
  • People will heckle, it is just how they are. I get heckled on my bike all the time (usually just a car honking), and I did when I was in shape to ride a 100 mile ride in the Texas summer... So don't take any heckling to be about your physical shape, people just have a fear of bikes just like when dogs bark at them. Ha.…
