  • I'm a former lifeguard/swimming instructor (but 35-40 years ago, yikes!), and after basically not having done ANY swimming for the past 12 years, I decided to bite the bullet and try to get back into swimming for exercise. Yesterday was my first attempt. I actually was able to do about 30 minutes of laps without feeling…
  • Today is my 500th day on MFP.
  • Today I'm wearing a short denim skirt that I haven't been able to wear in 12 or 13 years!
  • I went through a period of about 3 months this winter in which I was keeping my calories at goal, but was constantly starving. To make matters worse, my weight loss was completely stalled! Although I had been pretty diligent about getting enough protein, I realized I had to look at my carb/fat levels, too. After some…
  • I totally understand this! I have a point where I always would self-sabotage too. I think my subconscious would just say, "Eh, good enough" and quit, when it was really nowhere near good enough. Like you, I've just pushed past that point, too. Congrats! I know what that feels like!
  • I have a pair of shorts and a couple skirts that haven't fit me in 12 (!) years, but I kept them in hopes I could eventually wear them again. I made a mini-goal to be able to wear them by June of this year, so on a whim I tried them on this morning to check my progress. One of them actually fit comfortably, and the other…
  • I had a few really bad days last week. A couple of close family members were taken to the Emergency Department, and I was the point person for dealing with the hospitalizations and all that went with them. In the past, that would have sent me into several days (or more) of bad eating because I would have just stopped…
  • Chocolate chip cookies. A couple weeks ago, my daughter gave me a recipe for some that were SOOOO good. I made a batch and couldn't keep away from them.
  • I recently passed my one-year point on MFP, and was able to stay on plan through vacations, work-related travel, and the holiday season. However, last week, I think I subconsciously rebelled and I had an entire week of IDGAF. My NSV is that I didn't let that derail me, and I've been back on plan this week with renewed…
  • Today's my one-year anniversary on MFP. 365 straight days of logging! Also, at my workplace, one of the conference rooms has chairs with built-in desks. Last week, I sat in those chairs, not having done so for about 5 months. I was amazed at how much more space there was between the desk and my stomach than there used to…
  • OMG, my husband does this and it drives me crazy! He also rattles the ice in his drink when he picks it up to take a sip. On his behalf, I apologize to all movie-goers who have to sit near us.
  • One of my usual breakfasts, cheesy scrambled eggs (yum).
  • I completely ignore the scale. In fact, I just recently went about a year between weighings. I gauged my progress solely by how my clothes felt and what I saw in the mirror. I was right on track with my predicted weight loss (about a pound a week). That said, I had a lot to lose so the weight came off pretty easily. Now…
  • I'm for it. I lived with my guy prior to marriage, and we've been married 32 years. I wouldn't want to commit to a relationship for the rest of my life without having as much info as possible.
  • Although I'm going to talk about pounds on the scale, I still think this success counts for an NSV. . .! I started my new way of eating just a bit less than a year ago (late December 2015). Because I know from past experience that I get WAY too obsessive about my weight on a scale, I decided I just wouldn't weigh myself…
  • Because I'm tall and distribute my weight all over, inches come off me R-E-A-L-L-Y slowly. The difference between clothing sizes for me is 25 or 30 pounds. I lost one size in the first part of 2016, and have spent about 4 months with my clothes feeling the same since then (I was losing inches in my arms and legs, though).…
  • I generally don't have trouble keeping my food intake reasonable (somewhere between goal and maintenence) on holidays, but stuffing is my kryptonite. As long as I can eat just a small serving or avoid it completely, I'll be fine. I'll have to keep my discipline for a few days, though, since there are always leftovers.
  • Last week I went to a major conference for work. In the past, those 4 days would have been an excuse to really overindulge (big meals, drinks, snacks in the hotel room and in airports). My NSV is that I stayed at goal for 2 of the 4 days, and was only a liitle over goal (and still well under maintenance) for the other 2. I…
  • I've been on MFP since January and have had lots of NSVs since then, but this is the first one I've shared. A couple weeks ago, I ordered some summer clothes online (end-of-season sales!) that were a couple sizes down from what I've been wearing recently, thinking that the clothes would be good for next summer. (I'm a…
  • There were a bunch of reasons, but the big one was that I LOVE swimming (I'm a former lifeguard ), and I haven't done it in years because I wouldn't be caught dead in a swimsuit. I even have a swimsuit in my drawer that I bought years ago and have never worn. It should be fitting me within a few months.
  • I'm older (55) and haven't bought the game, but I'm impressed with the way it gets people moving, so I'm considering it for myself. My 21-year-old daughter told me she walked 7 miles yesterday (playing the game), and had already walked quite a bit on Saturday. Anything that adds fun to exercise is awesome in my book.
  • Redmaryclare, it's interesting that you say your hunger kicked in at a 10% loss of body weight, because that is precisely when my hunger started too. I hit the 10% mark a few weeks ago, and it's been a struggle to keep my calories at goal. I've considered taking a break and maintaining for while to see if it helps me…
