I've really been struggling lately passing high-level open guard. The knee and opposite wrist knee-slice just does not work, and most are very agile with their hips. Any advice on passing?

Have to be honest, do not know many female martial artists out of MMA, but I am a big fan of Michelle Waterson's karate style, and of course Ronda Rousey's judo!

My fiance also is letting me use her Garmin to track steps and though having a sedentary job sucks, it's nice to reach goals!

Nice work Bianca! Today was intense training day in muay thai for me - worked on some techniques i'll use on fight day and my heart-rate was up after the combos and sparring. No BJJ warmups as there was only four students and we flow-rolled for a few minutes, but took it easy. Fight is only 11 days away, so we want to take…

Glad to have you back in the sport, Don! :) Don't you just love looking at the faces of people who think they can smash you, only to see them a bit dumbfounded... :)

Hi Mel, good luck with Karate - I do find it's important to find something you really love to keep you motivated to stick with it! Keep it up!!

Good morning all, my name is Andy. I've been practicing BJJ and Muay Thai for just close to three years. Some life circumstances have gotten in the way and haven't been able to train as consistently as I want to. Sometimes will go just for kickboxing, sometimes just for BJJ. Anyway, I am a one-stripe blue belt under Robert…

New member here. Last night was MMA-focused drills and sparring. We had six fighters there today, the rest of the class did kickboxing. Drills consisted of starting from the clinch, pinning the opponent's strong underhook down at the elbow, grabbing the wrist, arm-dragging and taking the back; technique two was doing the…

Good luck on your half JustRobby1!! I've done one as a bucket list item, nearly 8 years ago. They're "fun" but not my dig.

Mathewhegan, is Discipline Diet a name for a program or are you just saying to be disciplined while dieting? What benefits do you find eating before bed? I've always heard eating before bed isn't good because your metabolism slows during sleep and you end up retaining/storing more nutrients rather than burning them off?

Thanks for that! I have actually read that before. About six months prior to my first MMA fight, I did a mock-water deload as described above and lost 11 lbs. It was hell on my body for that week and I had no stamina to lift, train, etc. I did a mock fight/sparring session after, to simulate energy level for the actual…

Down to 7.5 lbs to go, with four weeks to go!

Though I do not practice Judo - I do practice BJJ about three days a week - only a one-stripe blue belt, but anyway... I do a fair amount of push-ups for upper body as well as squats for core and stability for those throws. Though I also practice MMA, I do some footwork drills to help as well. BJJ has helped me as well,…

I've always wondered about options as well. I seem to alternate between hard-boiled eggs and scrambled eggs with two pieces of bacon. Cannot go wrong there; but not much variety.

Good luck! What is a semi-marathon? Like a half? How do you plan on losing the weight?

I don't believe I will have any issues losing the weight. I am just looking for suggestions on what other folks do. I have been successful in losing the weight over my fight-camp. I'm 34 and really don't want to rely on a rough water de-load the week of the fight (I get super irritable haha).
