That’s a wonderful post. Mind if I ask how long your fast is (12 hrs, 16 hrs, etc?) Every day? How many carbs per day? Net? I’m looking for inspiration for my next adventure in lowering my fasting blood sugar, reducing PCOS symptoms, and losing a few lbs.

Thanks for everyone's answers, and sorry I've been out of the loop. The perinatologist (an OB who specializes in maternal fetal medicine) wanted me to skip 5 days, and my regular OB said to skip the morning of. The perinatologist is very conservative and has stated that she would prefer that I not be on metformin during…

GLUCOPHAGE XR contains 500 mg or 750 mg of metformin hydrochloride as the active ingredient. GLUCOPHAGE XR 500 mg tablets contain the inactive ingredients sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, hypromellose, microcrystalline cellulose, and magnesium stearate. On first blush, I thought nothing looked plasticy, so I had the…

@RalfLott - I happened to see the warning about phthalates in generic extended release a few places while googling the difference between metformin vs metformin ER. And I'd like to say a big shame on Mylan Pharmaceuticals for not responding to my email or phone call requesting if their generic contained phthalates. I guess…

Thank you, everyone! I did a little experiment for 24 hours with the extended version, and I have to say the results were impressive, especially with fasting morning glucose. The only problem is that I've discovered a lot of extended release pills contain phthalates (the chemicals currently being removed from children's…

Yes - Thorne Basic Prenatal. Thanks so much for your response ❤

Thanks, macchiatto. Very well so far. We heard and saw a strong heartbeat today on ultrasound. :)

Thanks so much for your kindness! About a year and a half ago, I knocked my BMI down from 25 to 22.5/23 by exercising 5 days a week for 30-60 min and limiting carbs to 100 or less per day. I do relax on the weekends and go over on the carbs. I've read that carb cycling may keep us carb sensitive, but I haven't investigated…

Just had first blood work done but no ultrasound yet. Currently due Jan 28. Hoping for a healthy, happy journey to us all.

Pay for my new windows this summer and you've got yourself a deal! ;p Seriously, though I think it has something to do with my increased thyroid meds, taking 2000 krill oil per day, and possibly doing more cardio. My levels have never been this good before.
-
I hope this is not the case, but have you had your thyroid checked? Keto is great for a ton of people, but I was one of the unlucky ones who had some thyroid issues with it. Not sweating can be a hypothyroid symptom. If that ends up being your issue, you can still do low carb. Just bump them up to at least 75 g or more.
-
I'm confused by this issue too. I personally am going to include it. I don't know if you're prediabetic/diabetic like many of us, but here's a cool article stating that whey is a good thing: http://www.medpagetoday.com/meetingcoverage/endo/57129?pop=0&ba=1&xid=tmd-md&hr=trendMD

I had a lot of luck with a probiotic called Syntol AMD on Amazon.

Sounds like you're working hard and doing everything right. By all means, follow your dr's orders. I'm certainly no dr. Just relaying my personal experience in the off chance it may help you. The only thing else I can think of is that you potentially have an underlying thyroid issue. Keto is incredible for many people, but…

First, good for you that you fought off prediabetes. That is huge! I am puzzled that your cholesterol has increased (mine decreased) with this WOE. Also, research I've seen lately says that previously red flag high cholesterol foods like eggs, bacon, and butter are perfectly fine to eat and should not negatively affect…

Keto worked pretty immediately for me. I shaved off 10 lbs in the first month or so, but I don't have the challenge of T2 Diabetes (though I'm fighting pretty hard to not become pre-diabetic.) I've had really good luck with intermittent fasting when I can't budge the scale. I do the least hard-core kind where you basically…

I think this may be the full version of the study bella_xO referenced: http://m.eje-online.org/content/157/5/669.full Outlines the ways metformin is helping you, even if you aren't insulin resistant. I've read of berberine being an alternative to metformin: http://pcosdiva.com/2016/01/berberine-for-pcos-supplement/ But…

Hi Stacy - I personally am a big fan of metformin but am on a higher dose (1000 mg twice a day - Please do have your dr monitor your B12 levels yearly and supplement if they fall below 500.) What tests did your dr use to say that you are not insulin resistant? You may have been put on Metformin to help prevent IR. This…

You could be ok if you aren't part of the population that has the mutation that is hyper-sensitive to it. I realized I felt terrible the mornings after taking melatonin and got curious. In snooping around, I realized this stuff is prescription-only in Europe, and they think we're crazy for handing it out like candy here.

I went under 50 grams of carbs per day last summer with disastrous results to my cycle and hair, but I have thyroid issues and didn't realize I should stay at at least 75 g per day (per Chris Kresser.) My dr of course was clueless. I did some digging and found this article which helped explain why:…

I started eating carrots about a month before the blood work. According to the doctor who first noticed, patients would see estrogen-lowering effects in as little as 3 days. It hasn't been an enormous difference for me, but I have noticed significantly less mood issues, acne, PMS, cramps, and lighter period. Having your…

I do think the estrogen-fighting effects of carrots could cure beer belly (and man boobs <giggle>). When I was attempting to cross check, I ran into other articles that stated that you could peel the carrot if you want but just eat it right away. I personally do organic, but that's more of a personal choice. Carrots aren't…

Sorry that I'm just now chiming in. I find it frustrating when doctors (or nurses) don't even ask you where you were in your cycle when the blood work is drawn, so I try to double check their findings. Here are 2 sites I've used: http://www.fertilityplus.com/faq/hormonelevels.html#female…

Hi Cortney - mid-twenties is when I started having trouble managing my PCOS too. First, do you have a good dr? The reason I ask is because you are going to need a medical professional who knows what they're doing with PCOS looking out for you. I personally have an integrative internal med dr monitoring my blood work every…

Great stuff! I have learned so much from the expert interviews over at www.pcosdiva.com. Now if only I could find out where I could buy Jersey cow milk...

Just a heads up: If your fasting blood glucose was in the high normal range (upper 90s), you may actually read artificially high and even prediabetic now (but you're not if your A1c is ok.). I freaked out about this at first since it happened to me, but then I tested 2-3 hours after meals and was in the normal range as was…

Nizoral is good. It will get the dht off the scalp, but the problem I've run into is that it's so drying that my hair gets brittle and breaks. Supposedly, we should wash our hair daily to get rid of the dht. To be fair, I have fragile hair and hypothyroid stuff going on so hopefully your experience will be better. It may…
