  • I'm not in the UK, but I felt coming across this thread is something I needed. I'm working in the basement in WI today. The television has a fireplace on it, Disney instrumentals on, and it's dark and raining. There is banana bread upstairs that I keep thinking about. I don't need it or want it that much, but I 'm afraid…
  • Everything lorrpb said. If you're in a place with winter weather (I'm in WI), get an indoor trainer. I was lucky enough to find mine on Craigs list. My long bike days in winter turned into "me time" where I could also watch TV without getting the channel turned on me. If swimming is still relatively new, I highly recommend…
  • Welcome to triathlon. I've only done a few sprint races and I'm signed up for my first half Ironman, so I don't have a lot of expertise. My race was supposed to be June 2020, but Covid has postponed it until Sep 2021. I'm still new and am not sure I have a lot of tips to offer. While training, also work on your transitions…
  • I think I may have accidentally disagreed with a post, please ignore that
  • Right now min we iz to improve form and strength for triathlon. I was supposed to do my first half Ironman this past June. It's been deferred twice and is now zupposed to be September 2021. I decided this just gives me extra time to build a really strong foundation. This summer got away from me, but with everything going…
  • For those going to the gym, have you gone running on the treadmills? Is it difficult to adjust to running while wearing a mask?
  • YouTube: Sarah Beth Yoga, Yoga with Adrian, and Yoga with Bird. Those are three bo to yoga on YouTube. I think they all have yin yoga, along with other types as well as daily challenges (and 30 day yoga), When I would go to the gym, I used to do a class where we started with flow and ended with yin. In the beginning, I…
  • It's the Madison one June 14. I double checked today and it's still on. I've been trying to do some arm workouts.
  • Thanks for starting this thread; it's hard to find someone who truly understands this. I'm 10 weeks out from my first halfIronman. From the start, I've been worried about making the cut-off time. This makes it worse. It's WI here so I can't swim outside either. If they don't cancel, my only hope is that the wetsuit works…
  • This may sound counterintuitive, but I find doing a few bridge rep for 10-20 seconds helps my back.
  • Thank you; another person mentioned Be Iron Fit. She followed it to the tee, in 23 weeks, she missed only 2 workouts. I found that it seems like most weeks I'm adjusting my schedule/workout plan due to unforeseen events (life/gym).
  • 1.5 hour on the bike trainer (I don't have batteries/sinking of the speed/cadence sensors. And shoveling, which was also my Friday Fun/workout on my "rest/recovery day".
  • Thank you; I am definitely going to look more into the tridot; taking a quick glance at the website this morning, that looks like way more what I need, and for a lot cheaper. :-)
  • Thanks for all the info/advice. I've been talking to people at the gym that have done several, getting a feel if what will work and not. Of course, I've been reading a lot of articles. Since I'm still 20 weeks away, I figured I'll reevaluate as I become closer to the next common training plan timeline (i.e. 16 and 12 week…
  • But this time of year also means great deals on workout clothes and equipment.
  • Yes, I have heard that. :-)
  • Thanks; I had put only? Because I feel there are other adventures out there to pursue/explore ;-)
  • I agree with the person talking about the crowds that show up. I tend to notixw that in the beginning of the year, there's longer waits for the equipment, a d often, they break down a lot more. Not to mention the lack of consideration (not regulars or newbies specific) to not clean up the equipment afterwards, including…
  • I'm hoping to complete my first (only ?) Half Ironman in June.
  • Thank you. Luckily my gym is only about five minutes so most of my post workout can luckily be done at home. Most of this disorganization and time suck at the gym does seem to be related to swimming.
  • I haven't run a marathon yet, but when I see the times of the winners of those types of races, I do try to see if I can even get to that speed on the treadmill. Most times I can't even grt up to the speed.
  • I agree with previous posts; the crowds are what's frustrating and years of gym going (trust me, I definitely don't look like it) shows the trend of heavy increase in January with a drop in February and a slight pick up in March in time for spring break. During this time it's more difficult to find your familiar machine,…
  • Thanks, I will look into those. I had tried MFP a while ago, but didn't do much with it. I just wanted to start fresh. I've been on the app everyday, reading blogs/community forums, but haven't done much logging. We cook a lot from scratch, and the attempt to put everything in, and then to wonder if the calories listed are…
  • We used to joke around it wasn't dinner unless I spilled something on myself. Now it's turned into it's not dinner if I haven't burned myself cooking. Luckily they're all very minor burns.
  • I beat my PR on my annual (this is my fourth) sprint tri by five minutes, plus this was one of the first times that my mile pace got faster with each mile. The real victory is how far I've come from the first, in terms of self confidence. Today, before the race, instead of looking around for people larger and potentially…
  • I use a cold brew pitcher from Target ($20) and locally roasted beans. I let it "brew" for ~24 hours. I then use it to drink a 50/50 mixture with skim milk in a coffee cup. I pour the extra in a half growler we had laying around and store it in the fridge. I typically get about a weeks worth of coffee out of the brew.
  • Yoy could also check with the local running stores; most of them have running groups for all levels. I find it easier when I'm running with other people; the focus isn't just on running and sometimes you can pick up great tips.
  • It did just start slippimg, I will try the cleaning. Thanks.
  • I live in WI and I love running outside in the winter. I always feel like I'm conquering the weather. It also helps me get outside for fresh air, and there tends to be less people (which is a big ego trip knowing that you're one of the few to brave the weather. The other day I was running in the neighborhood and stopped to…
  • Look into triathlon sprints; they're shorter and give you a better idea of whether or not you like the sport. I've done a sprint tri,but have yet to try a half or full marathon.
