Thanks, PAV. I like what you wrote. Gonna take time to go through it.

I would like to ask so I could learn... How much is excessive? And how long does this excessiveness have to take place before we run into the increased risks? What is YMMV? :)

^ this. Just eat more or less, mainly following your body's signals (no adverse health symptoms) and the bathroom scale's weekly result. It's also natural since life is fluctuating, the body is capable of managing surplus, deficit. If you can do this, there's no need for weighing, worrying about calories.

I think I understand what you are feeling and asking which I do not see anything negative. I have been through this thought process -- so I know -- and that's why I've refined my approach to fit my lifestyle. My lifestyle consists of: being spontaneous with friends, family members, events when it comes to foods. The flow…

It comes down to personality. You could see what I said negative or you could see positive. Your choice. I still like to throw that out there in case those who find counting tedious and not long term and wish to find another approach or just gain a bit more confidence. Edit: indeed I just read that the OP is one of the…

You are getting ahead of yourself. I never said anything wrong with counting. In fact it's the right way if that's all you know and are getting results. Actually there's no right or wrong. It's just effectiveness and the cost of it. Many people still use shovels to move dirt. Then, there are those who use tractors. :) To…

It's controversial when intelligence or capability is discussed. So we better not go there. But think about this, as most things in life there tends to be superior ways and rudimentary ways. Do you think all fit people need to weigh? The answer is obviously No. If people could get fit without weighing, do you think they…

OP, I already saw this side a few weeks in. I realize the body is really good at managing surplus and deficit and in a lot longer than 24 hours. I stopped weighing foods after 2 months in. It's unnecessary to be precise with 1xxx calories. Life (at least mine) is much more spontaneous and up/down than such precision. I…

In the first few weeks in, I also used avoidance (soda, starchy foods, tasty foods). It worked well for me. I gradually refined my approach, and still do, avoidance as such has become unnecessary. But yeah, if you are bad with self control, don't hang around pastry shops a lot. Don't hang out with friends, coworkers who…

OP, I would say go for it. It is a good plan if you are feeling good about it and getting the result you want. Perhaps this will get you start right and you'll refine for something better soon. We are all at different stage in our "journey". Lots of people have to rely on a food scale, logging, moderation, some type of…

Well, you could weigh all your foods like everyone is suggesting or you do as I do -- Listen to your body, let the bathroom scale guide you and eat more or less a few hundred +/-. I actually don't know the exact number because I don't weigh foods anymore, but the body is wonderful in managing surplus and deficit. That's…

I NEVER can't rationalize why I shouldn't or cannot eat. IMO, you're doing your "diet" very crudely and rigidly. You're following the herd! :) When you are feeling this kind of depression, anger, or any health-related issues due to very low calories, just eat. Mental and physical health comes first. When you are healthy,…

You will stand a much better chance of succeeding and living in the presence, having no regrets when you actually *like* what you do and be accountable for your actions. I enjoy lots of foods on weekend and holidays and I don't turn away, don't have conflicting emotions. I'm there all the way. That's because I enjoy foods…

We went to Souplantation today where you know they only have small plates and bowls. Not a bad strategy by the restaurant to save cost, especially with lazy customers. Granted I could only fit little on each plate each time but man, did I have to make so many trips. I think getting up a lot allows you to eat more and kinda…

If you can't handle Toblerone, how are you going to handle Haiwaiian Host Aloha Gems (190 / 2 pieces)? :)

Not out in a over a year and now not knowing what to eat? Oh my... :) Just order a bunch of things and try. Finish the one you like and pack the rest home.
-
Craving, hunger is part biological need and part conditioning. After your biological need is met, ie you have enough nutrition, there's work to do to retrain that conditioning part (ultimately ignore and be ok with it). Again, it's work.
-
We also have pork that is chopped! :)

Like you and many others here, I also enjoy great quantities of foods on weekends. But, unlike others I do not think that I undo anything and I do not *have* to come in at a particular calorie value the next days.
-
In my opinion and experience it's a pain in the behind to try to hit a particular calorie value. You already know how to lose wt, just eat more or less that allows the body to fluctuate a few lbs. Do your losing if the gain goes outside the range. This makes more sense also since life isn't static. (I'm 4 lbs from my…

Agreed. I did exactly that. Tracked for 6-8 weeks starting from Feb. and then stopped. I have reached normal bmi .

Must be a cultural thing! I just bought a jar of Nutella and a jar of strawberries + orange preserves. I prefer the latter. I'm gonna try Nutella on beef steak. Everything tastes good on beef steak for some reason.

OP, I know what you mean about "seeing foods as numbers" I started to feel that too in the beginning. Every food I put in front of me I started to wonder the number of calories! Well, I stopped counting, mainly because it's unnecessary for me. I focus on controlling my eating and appetite when needed. I eat normal meals or…

I do! The other days , to reminiscent the life in the old country where we stir fried veggies and everything with lard, I thought the bacon juice would be a good choice. To be honest even though the dish tasted pretty decent, I couldn't recall any old taste memories. Good thing anyway, life is meant to be changed. American…

logging and counting calories is pretty essential IF that's all you know. Hence, I elaborate on another approach if anyone is interested. When I first started I hoped to eventually know how to read correct portions. Soon I realize it's not possible, feasible, appropriate or right in many situations. Example, today our…

What is "it" that you are referring to? Missus

I find that it's generally meaningless to go over or under 100 to 400 calories. So obsessing over every calorie is completely unnecessary. The body is amazing. It handles surplus and deficit surprisingly well and in a much longer period than 24 hours. That's why we got fat packed around the body and how many could survive…

I find it very effective to retrain my perspective and behaviors on eating. Just as you can activate your hunger, appetite (by basically thinking about, heightening your senses around foods, letting yourself enjoy tasty foods) you can also deactivate it as much as possible (by doing the opposite). I don't need to do it…
-
I don't bother with motivation or anything like that. My approach may or may not work for you, as I also don't do counting, logging of foods (so there's similarity there). I simply "tune out" of eating (when I need to lose wt). We can stimulate our appetite and we can also de-stimulate it. Eating is highly conditioning.…

Lately I like Rubio mahi mahi and Coke zero. 6" Subway + ice tea. Chicken tender pieces from Carl Jrs, Stater Bros. I think I'm gonna get a low calorie (lettuce wrapped) burger today. It looks healthy.
