Wow I simply cannot tolerate this kind of restriction for myself. To me, this akin to a mental prison!!!! Today some coworkers brought in donuts for everyone. I'm thinking about having a second (much much later when extra left) :) I almost never pack lunch from home. It's hard enough to deal the drudgery, repetitiveness of…

I like this. It's also true in converse. Don't consume a tonne of food when you only sit on your behind (and chat on MFP) all day. :)

Asides from cwolfman's point on the negative side, your lack of hunger can also come from positive, effective management of calories. For example many people can train themselves to eat breakfast and get hungry in the AM when they don't, but there are loads of people who don't eat breakfast and feel perfectly fine.…

Good points. I like. The environment is definitely getting more complex (in a way) so our eating behavior needs to advance along. It's becoming management of nutrition and all. In old age or poor parts of the world it's simply that people work like cattle and eat scarcely and few selection of food. Nobody needs to change…

I am kinda doing that "The Every Other Day Diet" but my diet days are grouped together, Monday to first half of Thursday and they happen to be noneventful time. :) I didn't start out like this but kept adjusting over months and now it becomes exactly 50/50 between fasting/eating light and eating freely as you put.

cwolfman, I also started out counting and eating 1500 a day. In 3 month time, it taught me to be aware of calories and the kind of fullness and hunger that comes with this amount. Before that, I got panic when such a hunger hit and I ate and failed to lose lbs.

I definitely found that the more I eat the more I want to eat. Sometimes the hunger gets stronger, too. Btw, wanting to eat and hunger do not necessarily mean the same thing. It also works the other way. The further I go into my fasting the less I want to eat and less hunger, too. I think this is why fasting tends to be…

Same as asking...if calorie counting works, why are there still overweight people?

Obviously you need to do what works best for you. However, you should also learn and discover ways to make your life better. You put "inner signals" in quotation says you don't have or know it but I think you believe you need it in order to be able to do "intuitive eating". Well, I don't know what inner signal that is but…

So, how many of the meals that you truly feel full do you have in a day? And how many days in a week? This number is important though. I only eat large, carefree meals on Friday, Sat, Sun and Thursday lunch. These meals are large but short of making me sick, of course. In the other time I eat "artificially" to get rid of…

Regarding your first question I eat like that and plan to do that for the rest of my life to not gain weight as the first goal. I'm already within my healthy weight range and feel no urgent to lose much more but generally if I can try a bit harder to create more deficit -- lose 5-10 lbs over months, good for holidays,…

Yes, pick boring time, days to fast. Don't fast on special occasions.
-
I don't think appetite works that way. Appetite is very much conditioned, aside from some biological root, I suppose. You can have a very large or a very small appetite or just average; and appetite for something that's only appealing to you and not others. It's all over the place and doesn't necessarily corresponding to…

Very simple, bud. I like eating just like everyone else who's healthy. Probably even more since I play sport and need to cycle through more calories! I simply prioritize my meals. I fast or eat very little in unimportant meals (boring lunchtime at work, by myself and certain evenings). I eat more and satisfyingly in…

I'm interested in the bolded part. So, what is this difference that we should be thinking about?
-
Why not. No such thing as too much butter. I've been meaning to ask the people here... what's the best butter and where to get it? I love unsalted President butter but there has to be better ones out there.

Wow, I read it 3x to see the word "slick" instead of "stick" I was getting amazed by people's eating habit.

Is this chart good if one's main source of liquid is dark tea?

It is what it is.

I wouldn't spare 10 minutes of my day to do something if I could do without. Heck the time before getting up to go to work always seems so precious. OP, I agree with you that the counting can get obsessive, especially for obsessive people, which I think you and I are. More than just the time and the overthinking -- heck,…

Getting a food scale and start weighing all the foods like a chemist isn't a little thing. That's a huge change in one's eating behavior. And for some they plan to do it lifetime. :) Anyway OP, my little things are: - "Ruin" my appetite before meals by eating low calorie foods in advance. - Understand that a lot of time…

Doesn't that depend on how much of the seasoning packet you use? I tend to use less than a whole packet or a lot more water. I like ramen variety. Haven't tried tofu with it. I prefer to add meat balls, fish balls, peeled shrimps and some cabbage. :)

I have to skip meals if I expect to eat well in other time. Your body can only take in so much before it balloons up.

My brother in law doesn't seem to focus on his weight and he has never gained weight. My sister (his wife) swears that he eats a ton but just has a high metabolism, meaning he burns through everything fast. That got me intrigued and started to pay attention. It turns out he's not interested in eating at all, far below…

+1 I agree with ^^^ and also with the OP. I lost my excess weight most effectively when I felt a couple of times hungry in a day and sometimes going to bed. It's NOT the kind of hunger that causes stomach pain, dizziness or very discomfort. I know this kind of hungry feeling is perfectly fine because I just eat a couple…

I'll answer this post but it's the same line of reasoning for the others who replied to my post. It's very subjective or different standards. Simply put, if you could moderate (hold off the eating) your food just aren't tasty enough! I don't eat cardboard. I eat the kind of food that's bland (or tasty) enough that makes my…

Good tasting food and weight loss can be an oxymoron. It can certainly make your wt loss endeavor harder than necessary. With that said, there are days (in the week) where I seek out good, tasty foods and other days I avoid them. :)

Reaverie, you're not alone. I and lots of others are like that. Pass a certain point of closeness to food, it becomes impossible to stop ourselves. I can well stop my eating 10s of minutes before the food reaches my lips. It becomes much much harder when the food gets on the plate in front of me. Then, it is impossible to…

Only after the time I spend effort in fasting, reigning in my weight. That's the only time I want to know if my effort is on track and if adjustment is necessary. In other time I already know that I gain (a little) or maintain and weighing is not necessary.

Guilt, anger and depression exist for a reason. There are there to guide your actions. The problem is they don't stay around long enough for you to make a difference, ie cement a new habit. They are all forgotten when you are faced with the pleasure of eating. If everybody could truly recall their worst feelings when food…
