  • You can develop other interests in the place of meal time. I very much like to go to tennis court during lunchtime than to food court.
  • Before I knew about all these various patterns of IF, I already came up with an approach where I prioritize my meals. Basically I would eat less or skip the unimportant meals and eat adequately or more in the meals that are important.
  • IMO, people regain because they use artificiality (for lack of words on my part) to lose in the first place. The more forced something is, the more work there is. And the less sustainable it is. We all have a breaking point. To increase your chance of success, make your new, healthy eating habit as natural as possible. For…
  • Awesome. I don't eat or eat very little when I'm not hungry and I feel fine. Most people should be able to tell if their body feels fine. It's doubly assuring if you have eaten in the last 8 hours. In fact on my fasting day I like to leave my body a bit empty or neutral. The whole darn challenge of losing weight comes from…
  • You have to grow a thicker skin. That doesn't mean your coworkers are discouraged from growing their own skins and not criticizing you either. A balance will prevail where everybody is equally happy (or agitated). It's only bad when things only go to one extreme. This reminds me of a time where I started to use a microwave…
  • I wholeheartedly agree with you in that attitude. But it's easy enough for me to get a ton of foam boxes for packing and paper plates for microwaving to use and dispose after. :)
  • Do you microwave (reheat) your food in those Tupperware? I heard it's bad. I don't know but I never do it. I don't like reheated foods so Carls Jr. , Subway, homemade boiled eggs, nuts are all good lunches for me.
  • Can you drink brandy or any hard liquor? Those wines burn worse than ginger. Certain Asian dishes go really well with ginger. It gives a warm taste and helps kill off excessive meat odor.
  • The answer depends on how obsessed you are with calorie counting. 400 for some dude. 100 for some women. There are even those who have strictly stayed in their allowance for years, ie 1 is 1 too many.
  • Seasonal is the best. You don't want to miss the holidays.
  • I'm gonna depart from other and say you have a sound plan and it has a good point. Look, if I have a hard time controlling my eating, I'm gonna look for reasons. I'm gonna do things that promote less eating and do not contradict in behavior. To me, eating ice cream or tasty foods most of the time is just putting up more…
  • This sounds good in writing and advising others but I really don't see donuts are given their fair chance in this place. :) Donuts seem very sinful to dieters. (Raise your hand if you eat a donut a day? 4 a week? :))
  • Thanks. I'm gonna look it up. I like trying new things.
  • Well, they don't say hunger is the best ingredient (sauce) for nothing, when it come to food taste. Performance wise (I play sport) I can feel a (positive) difference when my body can process a large amount of food which is only possible when I'm hungry/healthy. Likewise I am sick , hunger is virtually non existent and…
  • That's similar to my finding. Running just doesn't burn a whole lot of calories for me. Over 4mph speed for 1 hr only gives me around 500 calories burned. Before running I like to drink half a bottle of gatorade for sugar and electrolyte. It's not the running that I count on for creating a deficit. Running a just very good…
  • It's ridiculous to talk about "life-altering hungry", especially in an overweight, obese group. Overwhelming majority in the US do not face this kind of hunger either. The worst hunger an overweight person in the US likely faces probably comes from not eating for ...half a day!!! LOL. Anyway, back to the "diet" hungry, OP,…
  • I don't have your problem. I think I used to be like that but memories are fading. For me it doesn't take much to cure a hunger. 5, 10 kernels of cashew or a simple sandwich. Weight control is, if you do it right, all dependent on your discipline. None of the out of control hunger, discomfort. So, I think you can use some…
  • People need to know CICO as much as they need to know eat less, move more. LOL.
  • I think cwolfman is arguing a strawman. ogt's saying examining one's satiety, level, etc. doesn't necessarily mean that he/she is suggesting that you should eat like X or in a restrictive way. wolfman leaps to a fallacy just to argue, ie strawman? I agree with ogt on suggesting looking beyond simple cico. Hey, I got a…
  • I echo MagBird and NewGemini. I dropped over 25 lbs over the first 9 weeks and reached the upper end of my normal bmi. And like Mag, I ate unrestrictly, always at a buffet for me, almost every week. I counted calories for the first 3 months and then stopped as I have worked out my intake/spending equation. What I had…
  • how I deal with binge or excessive eating is I crowd out my schedule, preferably with interesting stuff.
  • Which moderation are you talking about? Example stopping after 2 slices of pizza or not eating and then having a whole pizza in two weeks, both of which cases do not derail your weight control. My personality prefers the latter. I don't consider eating 2 slices as eating a pizza meal. That's sort of tasting pizza. LOL.
  • Speaking of chocolate, did anyone get it as holiday gift? I got this variety box. It's really hard to stop at 4th piece.
  • Interestingly my experience is complete opposite. My success is at the highest point when I am truly under the belief that food is just fuel, eating can be a chore like cleaning your room. That was exactly when I needed to lose all the weight I needed. On the other hand my weight control is at most risk -- like now -- when…
  • What's "fast" to you? My wife would kill to lose 2 lbs a month. In hindsight my rule of thumb is you can lose as fast (much) as you gain in a period of time.
  • I set light activity level as I think that's what it is if I take an average of 7 days which include everything except my competitive tennis. I also have a desk job but even that doesn't mean my day to day activeness is consistent. I walk as much as I could convince my wife and my daughter to go, plus my own walking at…
  • omg..I was gonna suggest the same thing but worried that I might offend some people..:) Mexican or Asian food markets have some great price, especially on the staples. If you don't mind making many trips, you can also load up on soon to expire pastries, breads, etc from Kroger and value markets. Sometimes I find it amazing…
  • OP, WHEN is important and a critical feature in my approach as it allows me to lose/maintain my weight relatively effortlessly! At least the effort of counting calories it saves me. :) I think humans are hard wired with the pattern that we eat more when foods are abundant and eat less during scarcity. That's how we thrive.…
  • I no longer "count" regular, everyday type activities anymore as they don't seem to have much impact of my weight!!! Walking is one of them, regardless how many hours and I could walk for 3 hours daily!!!! These days I pay attention to activities that raise my heart rate to 85% of its max performance. I read that's the fat…
  • ^^^ Yeah you can also lose weight from being very scared. It seems like everyone who just comes off a surgery does very well, at least for a while.
