Cream of tartar adds a bit of acid to things that might benefit from it. For instance, it helps whipped egg whites hold their peak. The link jruzer posted explains why mock apple pie became a thing. http://www.culinarylore.com/food-history:did-nabisco-invent-mock-apple-pie I thought it made a lot of sense. Two hundred…

I re-read this thread and saw a couple that could have been more polite. Many were facetious, which is not the same as hateful. The best way to handle hateful comments is to click the flag and select Report (NOT "abuse"!). Let the mods decide, and you can get on with your day. I'm glad you got the answers you needed. :)

Why are you so amazing?

Now I want to know more about mystery torte! Anyone else ever hear about vinegar pie? http://www.annarbor.com/entertainment/food-drink/vinegar-pie---not-just-weird-its-actually-good-really/

That's why it's my favorite. o:)

+1 None of the links mentioned that grapefruit juice can rid the body of pesticides. While she's right that pesticides can be toxic, she still hasn't shown that grapefruit juice will help your liver rid itself of them.
-
Out of eight links, only one showed a way that grapefruit might benefit the liver, in the case of Hepatitis C. No mention in any of your links that grapefruit flushes fat and toxins.

Since we've started with the pictures, here's my favorite:

It's not about being lazy. It's about evaluating your sources to determine if you have something worthy of my attention. When someone tells me to look it up myself, that's a red flag that they are wasting my time and don't have a valid argument to defend.
-
Well that's one way to cut back on how much you eat! In all seriousness, I'm sorry that happened to you.
-
There's no proof there.
-
This tells me everything I need to know about you and your claims.
-
Maybe you haven't been using it right:lol:
-
My opinion? You need to let this go and focus on your own personal growth.
-
I think it would work by making you lose your appetite.

Get the salt & vinegar flavored ones and you'll be squeaky clean!

That was his wingman! Either that or you were on the set of a sitcom and didn't know it!

I'm not saying you are wrong, but you can get toxoplasmosis by gardening and you probably wouldn't even know it. But gardening is a wonderful hobby and I wasn't thinking of walking barefoot in one's own yard, which is amazing when the grass is soft and well tended! I, like Alluminati, was thinking of going barefoot in…

@diannethegeek @queenliz99 PS: thanks for the good advice  For everyone else, how about a photo of a real apple pie:

No worries! I'm content to let her have the last word.

You've summed it up nicely. It's tiresome to interact with someone who answers questions with more questions; that's schoolyard stuff. It says a lot about a person's reasoning level and ability to form and defend a coherent argument. I've seen her do her circle dance in other threads and I've drawn my own conclusions.…

That kind of logic is what happens when you live by the idea that if you can pronounce it, you can eat it. It's what I'm arguing against. But I think you are simply being disingenuous.
-
If you think that encouraging people to become informed consumers is splitting hairs, then yes, I'll confess to splitting hairs.
-
Splitting hairs...

And I guess we can all eat trans fat since it's so easy to pronounce.

If my choices are between "sensible" and "more sensible", I know which one I'll pick. Edit: And I still disagree that the mantra is very sensible. Maybe if you come across something that you've never heard of before, then yeah, skip that product at that time. But then go home and look it up! Learn about it to make an…

Would you also disagree that water and the chemical makeup of water are two different things? You're getting close to worrying about dihydrogen monoxide.
-
I think it makes more sense to learn about words and ingredients that one doesn't know and then judge whether or not to consume foods containing them. Living according to an arbitrary mantra is for children who haven't learned to reason for themselves yet.

Which is the same thing.

Just imagine what potato chips must do to your insides!!
