HAHAHAH When you're in the pool and you think you're having a hot flash but anyway you're exercising and oh who knows anymore.

Hello everyone; happy Monday, Ladies! Omg Penny, awesome photos! Beth, yes, see the aurora if you get a chance. I haven't seen it since I was a kid; it was truly electrifying! and I could hear it, too, buzzing and crackling. Seeing another one is on my list as well. Larisa in Seattle

Not to worry; I shan't be reckless, nor do anything uninformed. The further details on my particular situation are that both the hip surgeon and the ankle surgeon claim no restrictions, it's the PT who points out that in her opinion, neither of them is factoring in what the other has done. She has agreed to help me…

I swam today after not making it for a week. Sure enough, I lost some ground...but not too much. Now my pool is closing for two weeks.

Hear, hear! :star: Soooo my local pool is closing for two weeks, after today. I'd like to think I would take the longer bus ride out to a different pool, but to be realistic, that simply isn't going to happen four times a week. *sigh It has to happen some, though, because I don't want to hit the diving class cold, after…

Carol, Me, too; skipping dinner for anything other than to fall straight into bed, would have been a recipe for snacking, later. ...and here, I must confess I have an unfair advantage in dieting, in that I live alone...if I don't want anything high-carb or "snacky" in my home, there won't be any. The worst I could do to…

pipcd34, you run with weights on your ankles? That is impressive!

GodMomKim  My password for an undisclosed website is AreYouK1ddingMe% and that is literally why.

Yes, take your time. It's one of those exercises where nailing the form is actually more important to your progress than using a heavy weight. And just wait until your back is really strong; it's a great feeling  Larisa

Heee! It might be a regional term, out here. This one is a 7-foot tall iron archway, that I'm going to grow squash up the sides. It will be glorious. Larisa

Thank you for those kind responses. <3 I'm sure my frustration will pass as soon as something shiny catches my eye. I'm really enjoying this forum so much, and would like to be accountable to you all if that's cool. Larisa

Okay I feel like I need to restate/clarify. I only ate 800 calories yesterday, and was exhausted and just wanted to go to bed and not deal with the message that I hadn't eaten enough. I didn't sneak eat; I didn't lie to myself; I haven't consumed anything since starting MFP, that I haven't logged. I'm feeling like I should…
-
Yeah, I haven't eaten anything I didn't log, but logging food I didn't eat is still on that slippery slope. Next month, when I have the money, I think I'll spring for the premium, so I can set higher and lower goals for different days. Larisa

LOVE THIS!

BRAAAAAAINS  I love reading about brains, too  Have you seeeeen these! http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/huir/ Larisa

Hi Saltymama, I bet we're all with you. This is a wonderful group of ladies; so glad I found them, and now you have too. You got this! :star: Larisa in Seattle

Jeanne, Good deal! I'm right there with you. I'm on day 33 of greatly reduced carbs, myself (actual ketosis), and I find that it controls my migraines and other brain-injury symptoms almost completely! Some of us, sugar is just not our friend. And I'm having significant perimenopausal symptoms as of this…

 I called it hiking, and figured that was close enough. Then I completely lied to the food diary and told it I ate dinner when I really just went to bed. I hate when it nags me that I didn't eat enough. Intermittent fasting is a thing  (although in this case I was just more tired, than hungry). How did you…

Well, MFP doesn't know how many calories to count for pushing a 75-lb wrought iron garden arbor up a slight hill in a fold-up wheely cart for 2.1 miles....but I did it, in any case. A very young woman informs me that I am a god. No Honey, I'm a middle-aged Viking woman. This is how we roll. Good night from Seattle…

Thank you Lenora! I would feel so terrible if you got hurt. The kettlebell you bought will be fine for deadlifts, and you can totally work up to swings...just, go slow, okay?
-
Lenora Please, please don't do kettlebells swings in a back brace! Kettlebell swings are intended to stress and strengthen your back. Instead, please follow the video instructions for doing deadlifts to build up your back strength until you can start doing swings. I just checked with my professional trainer, and he is also…

Happy April, Lovely Ladies! I officially completed my first month on MFP with an unbroken streak. My resolution for April is to keep that up. 1. Logging every meal, every day. My pool is closed for the next two weeks, so for fitness I will add: 2. walking every morning until the pool reopens; swimming four days a…

Lenora, I don't think I would use a back brace to do a kettlebell swing. Working those back muscles is part of the exercise. In the video they talk about using deadlifts to work up to kettlebell swings; I've seen that recommended elsewhere, as well, and keep the weight low at first. That way you're actually getting a…

But of course! That's what it's for. All of the album "The story in pictures" is from the first year. I came home from work and gardened every. single. night, often until well after dark. I spend a heck of a lot of money on it, too  ...although the gazebo and the fountain together, cost the same as my…

YESS people question why I work with a trainer after 34 years as a gym rat. Well, because 1) I'm still in injury recovery, and I tend to push too hard, without supervision; and 2) I don't study this stuff for a living, but my trainer does, and he teaches me new things all the time; and 3) because even trainers need…

Okay, I cannot resist sharing one more view of my fountain. This is LaVerne. She's a grandma...and sassy! <3 https://www.facebook.com/TheBalconeh/photos/a.175741429283660.1073741830.174130032778133/175743129283490/?type=1&theater Larisa in Seattle

Agreed! and I get "lots" for a city, not lots compared to a forest, but it's been a pleasant surprise, and I love it! I filmed this out my bedroom window; it's last summer's fresh batch of juvenile finches squabbling over bathing rights. https://youtu.be/PDqDwgRJuFU I'm not far from Pike Place, between that and…

It's crucial both to safety and benefit of the exercise. One of the most important things about working with weights is only doing what you can do with correct form, in terms of both what movements, and how much weight. There's absolutely no shame in knowing what's not safe for yourself, and choosing something…

Lenora, yep you can; hang on to one end with both hands. There are three main things with a kettlebell swing: 1) yep, keep your back straight 2) when you lower the weight down and back, between your feet, only go back until your wrists meet your inner thighs. Any farther, and you're stressing your back and making it hard…

Lenora, Kettlebell swings should be amazing for your tummy and thighs (and butt), partly because of muscle growth and partly because of they way they burn fat. Arms are a hard one. Working your triceps (with dumbbells or cables or even resistance bands) can help some, but it's a very female thing, those arms. Larisa
