@girlinahat Mini triathlons are usually around 1/4 mile swims, 14-15 miles cycling, and a 5k...all in all it is about a 2 hour workout +/-

I would not count anything that you were doing prior to deciding to eat right and exercise because you were doing that when you gained the weight. That would include mowing the grass, cleaning the house (vigorously - hahaha - seriously???), walking the dog. If I think of an exercise activity, I would count: golfing pulling…

I should have posted this last night but forgot. We had a ton of rain this past few days after weeks of drought, there were literally 100's and 100's of yards of these plants that have popped up next to the running trail.

Mother of pearl! I walk/ran 5k on Thursday for the first time in years because I decided to enter a mini-triathlon in September. Today is the worst!!! Considering I cycle a LOT, stamina was not the issue - different muscles were the issue. Going down stairs is horrible lol.

I did atkins, counted carbs...then WW, counted points...then MFP, counted calories. MFP is so much easier. Give it a week or so to get most of your favorite foods entered and it gets "waaaay more betterer"...maybe even the "bestest" :)

^^^This^^^ When you lose your first 5 pounds - pick up a new bag of flour and carry that around for an hour or so to get you back to your starting weight...and then tell me how glad you are to be rid of that weight.

I am starting training for a mid-September mini triathlon - so cycling miles will go down as running miles increase. Probably will only get to 150 to 200 cycling miles this month - but will probably run at least 15 - 5Ks this month as well. Will add swimming in August. Lat-pull down machine helped me get there. One day it was broken and all weights were engaged - and to my surprise I could pull 220 pounds - went straight to the chin up bar and surprised myself. Also doing assisted pull-ups (put toe on stool and only help as much as you need to get up there - like with P90X)

Do both OP. I switched to maintenance calories as a daily goal and when I feel like it, I stay under. I usually feel like it once or twice per week. I have dropped 3 more pounds over the past 3 months doing that...and it was more or less painless with regards to being hungry.

I do both...I sprint (the trails) until my speed drops - then quit. It usually is somewhere between 60 and 80 minutes when I start to run out of gas depending on the wind, temp, the work day, how I fueled up before the ride, etc.

I did this program and, while it is most definitely less cardio-like than a pure cardio exercise, in my opinion it is closer to cardio than strength training. HOWEVER - you can very easily tone down the reps by adding weight to make it more like strength training if you like.
