Does your doctor comment on your weight?
Has your doc ever suggested you lose weight? If so, were you offended? I asked my doc if she ever suggested people lose weight, eat better, exercise more, etc. She said that her answer would be mostly "No." When I asked her why she explained that being a doctor is a business and if she would critique each patients weight,…

Heavy Drinker - Now Sober - First 3 Months Sobriety Summary
Sorry for this long post - but I thought it might help some others: I was a functional heavy drinker just 90 days ago. I would drink a 1.75 liter bottle of Jim Beam every 5 days or so – maybe 6 days if I was trying to cut back. I was still very active – running, swimming, cycling, gym, etc. I just made sure I left enough…

Sausage, Hash Brown, and Egg White hash - 343 cal per serving
I hate not feeling full so I came up with this recipe that is tasty, filling, and sort-of easy to make. It keeps well in the fridge and reheats very well. So when I make this, I typically make 4 servings so we have 2 for later. Ingredients: 2 servings SIMPLY POTATOES - 140 cal. (or 140 calories of your favorite potato…

Best Christmas gifts
In case someone is indeed looking for gift ideas, I though this thread might compliment the Worst Christmas gift thread. The single best Christmas gift I have ever received is an automatic-start for my truck. Nothing else has even come close.

Do you have pre-diabetes? Simple online test to see if you do...
I heard a PSA on the radio - and went to their website. The test took less than a minute and seemed worth reposting here. BTW - My results based on my current stats were: 4 out of 10 - NOT AT RISK. I did the test a 2nd time and put in my old numbers, before I lost 75 pounds and was very inactive and got a 6 out of 10 or -…

Hunger on college campuses: it's a real thing

Burning Man - Have you ever been to it?
I am not sure what exactly it is. As best I can tell it is a no-money, barter economy, dusty, hot/cold art festival, camp out, bike ride, hippie thing/non-hippie thing, that has a bunch of other things going on in the middle of the uninhabited desert salt flat? Have you ever been? Is there a main purpose to it?

Thin, medium, or thick running socks?
I am relatively new to running. I have good fitted running shoes and I am trying to decide what sort of socks are best for me. Other than trying different socks out to find out what works best, are there any other considerations that I should be aware of? Any name brands better than others? I run in fair weather too...no…

New to running - Ache on outside of hip after about 20 minutes of running
I am new to running and am just working up to running a 5k. Now that I am able to run for extended times/distances, albeit at slow speeds (5 mph or so), I am experiencing a dull to medium ache on the outside of my hip (left side). This starts about 20 minutes into a run and goes away when I walk for maybe 30-60 seconds and…

Instant Pot Pressure Cooker...Does anyone use one?
I have been considering getting a pressure cooker/crock pot combo but I literally do not know anyone that has one. So I am posting my questions here. I understand cooking times are drastically reduced (which is my main reason for considering this) as compared with conventional pots...but... * Does the food taste different?…

Sprint-Triathlon training NSV
...I lost another inch on my waist size and had to buy new pants :-) Adding swimming and running to my cycling routine had a surprise benefit. My weekly calorie burns are still about the same as before I added swimming and running, but I would have to say my overall fitness is much better.

Jambalaya Fatty - a creation from the smoker - lots of pics
Fat Tuesday is in a few days and it got really cold today and I wanted some jambalaya...so I decided on a jambalaya stuffed fatty. It made 7 slices about 1.3-inches wide and actually was only 357 calories per slice. For you skeptics, the bacon is thin sliced and the sausage is rolled very thin. Here are the pics: Some…

Mini-Triathlon question - fueling while doing?
I signed up for my first mini-tri. It is a 1/2 mile lake swim (no wet suit) followed by 15 miles of cycling followed by a 5k. It is in July so I have a ton of time to train and I am training seriously. I think I will do OK. My goal is sub-2 hours. But I am curious if I should work some energy snacks/drinks into the cycling…

Jambalaya at 235 calories per serving
It's cold, cloudy, windy, exercise is done, fire is going...a perfect day to make Jambalaya. My recipe is with no rice or it spikes calories. Enchilada Casserole - two options - 350 and 430 calories/serving - delicious either way!
So we use this healthy food service called Go For Fit Fuel (only available in Missouri) for our at-work lunches - https://goforfitfuel.com/ - and one of my favorite meals is their enchilada casserole. After a couple of tries, I think I have approximated/mastered their recipe. My whole family loves it and my adult sons say…

Make your goals simple - be here 6 weeks from now showing a weight loss & you will probably succeed
So many people flame out and quit because they do too much too fast. Like:* Immediately switches to a stupid-low calorie intake * Immediately begins a stupid-intense exercise regime * Both 1 & 2 combined Most do this because they want fast results, NOW! This often results in failure. Case in point, I picked a random day…

Smoked meats can be low cal. too - Recipe for a "Skinny Fatty"
For those of you that don't know what a "Fatty" is in the language of people that smoke meats...it is usually about 1.5 - 2.0 pounds of pork sausage, spread out thin, then layered with goodies, rolled up, and wrapped with bacon and smoked to perfection. I managed to get this fatty down to about 300 calories per slice. Here…

Do you set definite goals?
I was wondering you you set definite goals? Not like - I really wish, someday, I could lose 50 pounds But rather a definite goal like - I want to lose 50 pounds in the next 8 months...and then you write it down, track it, and measure your progress. I find setting goals keeps me accountable.

Make your goal to still be here 8 weeks from now - just a suggestion.
I have noticed there are a lot of posts asking for accountability partners, needing motivation, needing encouragement. So - To explain my 8-week suggestion....
