  • I am down 70 pounds from my peak weight - and wanting to be down 10 more pounds. Living right has got me off all meds - which resulted in 10 pounds of weight gain. I am stoked to be med-free but want to get back to my goal weight. I am very active - softball, cycling, swimming, & running. Looking for other active MFP…
  • This evening on the KATY trail it was about 82F, light breeze, and there were only 4 cars in the parking lot. I normally have to ride 45 minutes away to get this sort of isolation...but this evening, the trail was mine.
  • OP - My experience is most women that ride do so with boyfriends or husbands or in groups...emphasis is on the word "most." There are many cycling groups in town here including all-women and co-ed groups. I think group rides tend to be the safest as opposed to being a solo cyclist on an isolated bit of road or trail. My…
  • Have you tried spicy foods and hot sauces? That has an affect on some people.
  • Thnx @kcn2bluesky ...I will check it out
  • I totally get the sweet tooth @kshama2001 ...Got them myself. Love dark chocolate now...but still only have a little each day. I forgot to add to my long message above that I no longer swear each and every morning while in the shower that "today I am going to quit", or "no more", or "not another drop" because I felt so…
  • Good golf shoes are the most comfortable shoes ever...all shoes should be made to golf-shoe standards! Signed: 18 Handicap
  • I used to feel the same way when I was 80 pounds heavier...now I train for Sprint Triathlon's, miles long swims, and hours long bike rides. I don't do 2 hours a day - that seems obsessive to me too - but I probably average 7 hours a week in the summer, less so in the winter because of less daylight hours and I find the gym…
  • Keto works for me; and Weight Watchers works for me; and CICO works for me I mix it up between the 3 to keep my food intake interesting with the goal being to not gain and stay in maintenance. FWIW - I probably do CICO 80-90% of the time.
  • Wow! Inspiring for sure!
  • OP - this pretty much sums it up for me (80 pounds lost) except I am the omnivore that cycles between counting calories (the majority of the time), keto (sometimes), low fat/high carb (sometimes) because - pasta :-), and borderline vegetarian (sometimes). This allows me to consume pretty much anything my heart desires with…
  • I live about 3 hours from Nevada....Missouri
  • I started Keto last Saturday cuz I hit the magic-trigger-weight of 5 pounds over goal...6 days later back at goal with a little wiggle room. Granted that part of that weight loss was probably a little water retention from salty foods...and when I do Keto for real, I never snack. Let's say this accounts for 4 of the 5.4…

  • Eating cold curled up pizza at the fridge door ... mmmm
  • My experience with KETO is way back in the Atkins days. I read the entire book before I started too. It did work and weight fell off, but I did have to count calories as well as carbs, fiber, net carbs, etc. The best part of this diet was, because of the higher protein and lower carb was, I had a "full feeling" much longer…
  • Coffee snob here...whole bean, freshly ground, and black Kenyan AA - Costa Rican - Sumatra are all acceptable. If I have to drink store bought coffee brands...I like Peet's and Starbucks Colombian
  • Ditto above (@bikecheryl )...except I lost 75 pounds. I have been in maintenance for over 7 or 8 years and still work hard at staying fit and trim. I have to log or I will slowly gain weight using my old stupid former fat me logic. Also - logging is boring without fitness goals so my goal is simple - to run/finish…
  • You give it something that I use called BEST GUESS. Search for it...if your best guess is 100 calories...use 0.1 Best Guess. I look at a marinade like BBQ sauce...how much is on da-bird and best-guess it.
  • Exactly! That was my whole point...but you said it better.
  • For the first 2 weeks it can be very low carb if you want fast results...but it is not sustainable. As you approach your weight loss goal, it becomes moderate carbs. Think of Keto as a SUGAR FREE diet that is also higher protein and lowish carbs.
  • Keto is not EXTREMELY low carb and HIGH fat. Keto is lowish carbs and high protein (I wish people would read the book - especially the ones trying it and thinking it is extremely low carb and high fat). For me, I need to stay under 55 grams of carbs per day...but I eat trimmed-of-fat-skinless-chicken breast, fish, a little…
  • OP - Vinegar, besides being outstanding on salads and in some BBQ sauces, also is an excellent low-cost cleaning product. It is not, however, a magic potion for weight loss. NOTE TO SELF: I am going to go to the gym tomorrow, purely for the entertainment value :-)
  • OP - Sorry - but Folger's is not real coffee. Blech! It's like a kiss on your forehead from your 85 year old great aunt...it does nothing for you. My wife loOoves her Keurig and I love good Costa Rican, Kenyan AA, Sumatra, etc. I bought a reusable K-Cup like this one…
  • I use 17 calories per large egg white. I crack the eggs the old fashioned way and separate. Egg beaters are less food for more calories. I get a lot of calorie specifics from CalorieKing.com http://www.calorieking.com/foods/calories-in-eggs-egg-white-cooked-without-added-fat_f-ZmlkPTk5MTU1.html
  • Try skinnytaste.com great recipes and I have found their calorie counts to be accurate Also Calorieking.com for checking on some calories. For instance if you use 80:20 ground beef, the calories on the package are for the raw product, not the cooked finished product. Calorie King can help with this.

  • In 1976, at age 62, to celebrate the US Bicentennial, Jack Lalane swam one mile shackled and handcuffed while towing 13 boats (symbolizing the 13 original colonies) with 76 people on board. The moral of this story...Listen to Jack More of his crazy feats can be found here...…
  • Interesting article and I agree with some of the concepts they portrayed - BUT - I choked when I read about a "panel of experts reached a consensus"...this is not science. It is a discussion, albeit with knowledgeable people in this article, but with no science to back it up. I am a professional in private practice and I…
