I am 57 and started running earlier this year to do my first Sprint-Triathlon. BTW - I HATE running!!! But complaining about running is so fun - so it all works out. :) Seriously though. Once I could run a 5k without walking, I noticed my stride started to improve. Like the others said above...intervals started working for…

Progress is progress and 0.5 pounds loss is sweet progress. Beware of the plateau's though and be sure to measure. Cheers and I wish you all the best!

Not sure about 50 pounds...but I lost 75 in 18 months. If I had to guess it was in 9 or 10 months or so for 50 pounds...the last 25 pounds came off slower. HOWEVER, I still drank liquor, ate out occasionally, etc....but I just counted the calories and went on. I am sure I could have lost it all much faster if I had…

Cycling? Low impact. Use regular pedals, not clip in.

Damn dude! You look great. Congrats on the first 100 and looking forward to seeing your progress pic when you hit goal :-)

King Kong was Just a little monkey compared to my love for you ^^^That^^^ would be a country song...of course

^^^Yup^^^ I count watermelon too (just kidding).

I am an engineer all day...in front of a computer. Lethargic is the best description of my exertion at work. At night and on weekends I run, swim, and cycle as well as work our farm. I squeeze in a Sprint Triathlon every now and again just to keep hearing my friends say that I am crazy. I can do the above because my kids…

^^^Yup^^^ When I did Insanity a few years back - it was too much for me to do daily. I found that I got great results doing it every other day as opposed to daily. It took twice as long to complete it but I doubt I would have finished it if I kept with the daily routine.

Just keep moving. Do any and all of the following: Side stroke, backstroke, breast stroke, free style...and if you are bold, daring and unafraid...butterfly. I usually bang out a mile in about 40 minutes (including short breaks) and get a nice total body workout.

I just finished my first Sprint-Tri. I did not come in DFL, but was definitely in the back 10% of the pack. Now that I have completed one event my thoughts on training and nutrition have changed. I trained hard for mine...so much so it started affecting my personal life. I lost all of my free time. Going forward, I plan to…

You might want to look into foam rollers...they do help.

Correct - extremely rare

I would just try to push myself a little harder than normal and accomplish the same thing.

Try looking at Fitness Blender on YouTube. It's free and has a myriad of home workouts for all fitness levels.

I lost 75 pounds in 18 months while drinking beer or bourbon. Just count the calories.

I know, for a fact, at 6:55 AM CST, on July 26, 2017, there were 4 bucks in my bean field

Reread my post - I said nothing of the sort. I said that I thought it was DOM's - which, upon hindsight, is incorrect.

Here is another article claiming a few newcomers to HIIT and basic training getting symptoms of rhabdo. Again - it is all about newcomers overdoing it. While the symptoms are real, the article clearly states it only affects a small number of people.…

The spin classes I attend in the foul weather winter months are definitely not all done from the seat. There are many hill climbs that require some serious out-of-the-seat crank-for-all-you've-got periods. ALSO - The article said he went to his FIRST SoulCycle class. So he had to be definitely out of shape (at least for…

When I ride with my wife - and she rides at a casual speed in the 8-10 mph range - I don't count it as much of a burn. MFP does take this into account with the cycling speed ranges.

Swimming is an excellent cardio exercise that uses many different muscles, especially if you mix up your routine with breast, back, side strokes and free-style. I also like to swim with arms only (no kicking) and kicking only using a kick-board. Notice I did not mention butterfly - I would never recommend a swim stroke…

I just finished my first official Sprint Triathlon at the Missouri Show Me State Games. I had two goals.* Run the entire 5k. * Do not come in last. I managed to meet goal #2, but missed out on goal #1. BTW - the total estimated calorie burn for the 1/2 mile swim, 15 miles bike and the 5k is about 1,800 calories.

OP - I am all about reps. I drink one 5 oz. glass, rest and repeat. I usually do 3 or 4 sets. I can't do as many bourbon reps, but I classify bourbon as lifting heavy.

I lost about 75-80 pounds (depending on the day) in 18 months. When I hit goal I felt and looked great and eventually left MFP and a year or two later, cancelled my old MFP account. Over the next 12 to 18 months after I stopped logging, my body shape slowly changed to where I was no longer happy with the results. I slowly…

There is absolutely nothing wrong with eating pizza for lunch...just count the calories. I wish I was there and could have thought of something snarky to tell him ha ha... Congrats on your 20 pound weight loss!

^^^ @Luna3386 is correct ^^^ I am in maintenance and swim, cycle, and run for exercise...and lately have been working out hard training for a Sprint Triathlon. I am in good shape but I am not losing or gaining weight or gaining muscle. However, muscle tone is hard to gain by doing cardio exercises alone. I think since I…
