Height 5'5" Weight 209 April goals: Quit eating like there's no tomorrow. Exercise a little every day. Stay clean. Adapt to using the food in the house rather than my special "diet" foods. This might be a good time for me to learn that I can eat anything if it is in moderation.

I went up to about 140 in college and then later lost down to about 115 (I'm 5' 6".) I'll never forget my aunt and one other woman saying, "Thank goodness! You were this wide" -- while holding their hands about three feet apart. It's the thought that before I lost everyone was laughing at me and talking about how wide my…

Well I admit I fell right off the wagon, but I may try to get back on track soon. I admire all of you who are sticking with it, doing those DVD work-outs in the family room and preparing healthy meals. One day this will all be over and you'll be the ones to step out into the sun looking like movie stars!

Wow, @Manderson27 that's one of the most amazing makeovers I've ever seen. Not that you weren't nice looking before but now you're just super-glam. As another "blond" would you mind telling me what brand and number your haircolor is? I love that.

That's a separate issue from whether you can be forced to work or not. All this varies from state to state. Texas employers can fire you for not coming in. I know Walmart (where my son works) will not. My state, Ohio, has said people will be allowed to put off paying utilities for the next few months, so you wont have your…

Whoa now. As I understand it "essential" means these places and people will be allowed to work not that they have to work. My son is a grocery store cashier, as a front line food supply worker his work is considered essential, but he and everyone he works with is free to take leave-of-absence with a guarantee of getting…

Lots of people quit when they don't see satisfying results, so for them a stricter diet with clear weekly results will keep them sticking to the plan longer than a higher calorie diet where they feel like they're working hard but not getting paid. I'd trust my doctor and do what he told me to do.

"You've lost weight! Good. The last time I saw you, you were this wide;" [holds hands about five feet apart.] I always get something similar when people who usually see me in my glasses, run into me while I'm wearing my contacts." Oh you look great. Those glasses were awful, they were so thick!" I'm always going to have to…

Very inspiring, April. I too am an abstainer rather than a moderator. Don't ask me to eat one cookie, what torture! I respect that there are people who rebel against rules, but I ask them to respect that I enjoy the safety within certain rules along with the freedom to make those rules for myself. I'm currently trying to…

The Mule, Clint Eastwood's latest, probably last film. It's written by the same man who wrote "Gran Torino" which I loved. I didn't like this one as much, but was still entertained. One scene made it not as PG as the other one either if you're thinking of taking children or your grandma.

LOL. I know! People call fasting a fad and "just a tool." Calorie counting is also just a tool. People managed to lose weight long before that little unit of energy was discovered. I did IF for 18 months and lost 60 lbs. Quit the plan. Regained. Now I need to go back to it.
-
I did IF, 17:7 lunch at (11:00 nothing after 6PM) for 18 months and lost 60 lbs, reaching my goal. I'm not the perfect test, because I also gave up sugar. I have done many different methods, but this was, by far, the best plan for me, I stuck to it longer and found it much less "painful" than other plans. For me, it's all…

Good grief. One of the hardest things for me when I'm losing weight is looking in the mirror and seeing how, though my body looks better, my face looks worse, because the loss of fat in my cheeks makes me look sunken and haggard, and the loss of fat in my neck makes it look old. Your person was not only tacky she has a…

It's those geese on toast that's doing it, I hear they're really fattening. (I'm kidding!) I agree with Diannetheggek, you might be best off with something like Slimfast shakes for a week or two. It will jump start you into losing and give you confidence that you really can do it. I enjoy logging every bite and counting…

Great start Robin! The first few days of any new plan is hardest for me and you've got past that! It may be a long journey to your ultimate goal, but you will be reaching smaller goals all along the way and reaping the rewards of looking and feeling better every day.

I'm starting today too because my scale is saying, May Day, May Day!

Pizza always puts my weight up the following day no matter how few the calories. it must be the amount of salt causing water retention. I only weigh once a month because of all those little things and once a month takes care of any hormonal cycles going on. It depresses me to see any gain so this assures I'll see a loss.

That sounds like a great plan! It would help you learn to visualize proper portions for home and when you eat out. I just had a bowl of cornflakes, topped with a sliced banana. Something about it reminded me of how my mother only ever used a half banana, then I remembered that our cereal bowls were about one third the size…

I try to keep my sugar total below about 20, because I've observed that high sugar meals and snacks make me hungrier, but if you don't have a problem with it, you can eat much more than that.
-
Eric, you have all my sympathy, but at the same time I find your problem very interesting. The posts here tend to be of two types, either "I'm logging and doing great!" or "I'm not logging and regaining." It sounds like you are logging with greater than average accuracy. Last year I logged while eating out, just estimating…

I didn't do any dieting at all while I was breastfeeding but still went down to my lowest weight ever -- 103 pounds. Everyone is different, but for me it was a rare time when I didn't have to worry and could eat anything I wanted.

My boy trained fairly well with #1, but #2 just took up too much of his valuable play time. I think that's the main thing with little boys, they get really intent on whatever they're playing, and how they happen to look while they're playing just doesn't enter into it. Just relax, some day you'll be like me, looking back…

Wow! You, your hubby, and Adelaide are all beautiful.

I'm very sorry to hear about your father. My brother is dying of throat cancer, caused by HPV. Ten years ago, if anyone had said men could get cancer from having oral sex with their wives, I would have been very skeptical I wouldn't have told them it was rubbish, because I think that's pretty rude, but I would have had my…

I find it odd to follow slavishly behind any one particular scientist (or nutritionist) and proclaim everyone else's opinion nonsense or rubbish, when most have impressive credentials. It's not like these studies are done in someone's garage, there's usually a large university funding most health studies. The studies I'm…

Rubbish reporting? It says quite clearly in the first article that the study only shows correlation and not causation, that more studies are needed and that it seems to be only certain types of small vessel strokes. It's only meant as something to think about, a heads up for people in certain risk groups. There's no rule…

I'm surprised any of you are trying to lose weight! Aren't the studies linking obesity to cancer, heart disease and diabetes just so much bad science and fake news? Don't pirates cause those things? I'm switching from diet coke to caramel milkshakes as my beverage of choice. In fact I already have and I'm still alive, so…

I have to treat sugar the way an alcoholic treats whiskey. I recently lasted 16 months with absolutely no candy, cookies, ice cream etc. not even ketchup. I lost 60 pounds and felt great. Then I made the big mistake of thinking I could have a few sweets around Christmas, and from the first piece of fudge I was off on a…

Well yes. I'm sedentary and have very small bones. Maybe I could maintain with a little more, but during the past year I lost about 50 pounds doing 1200 a day and then, in October and November, I had slowed down to losing only 2 pounds a month at 1200 per day. However, it's not really all about accurate math for me today.…
