  • I had the same thing today, former coworker stopped by and asked where the rest of me went. Kinda nice, not gonna lie :). Congrats.
  • I've been maintaining within a few pounds for about a month or so. I still log, because it is what has worked for the last ten months and I'm used to it. At some point in the near future, I'm going to try not logging for a bit and see how it goes. I'll still weigh myself daily, to keep myself in line, and because I can't…
  • That would be amazing.
  • Low carb is not necessary for weight loss. Avoiding empty calories, like a lot of refined carbs are, certainly helps. I had a lot of success eating whole grains, things like that that take your body longer to break down, and keep you full longer. Eat carbs smart and you'll be fine, and stick to a calorie deficit. A lot of…
  • I'm actually a little confused - did you win, or place second?
  • Congrats, that's awesome! And no need to feel bad about Planet Fitness. It is a good gym, and has been super helpful as I lost 78lbs. Use it to your advantage. Keep up the good work :)
  • Lose 4 more lbs. That'll get me to 170.5, which is 80lbs total lost. Then back to maintenance for a bit.
  • That's awesome, good stuff. Keep at it. Mix in some weights if and when you feel comfortable, it helps. Don't worry about anyone else at the gym. As has been said, most don't notice you or pay attention, but, if they do, are typically happy for you that you are there. A lot of them were probably overweight as well at one…
  • Great progress, congrats! Good luck on your 5k. I'm looking forward to doing one in the spring :)
  • Running burns the most calories for me. Couch to 5k really works great. Fastest way to get results is to stick to CICO - food intake has to be reduced to lose weight effectively. What they say is true, you can't outrun a bad diet. Don't starve yourself, but burn more calories than you consume.
  • This is technically mostly a scale victory, but I won a bet with a coworker - the bet was who would weigh the least on Boxing Day. A year ago, I was 80lbs heavier than him. When we made the bet, I was 20lbs heavier. I beat him by 10lbs. The fun part, for me, was when another co-worker said to him today "Hey, remember when…
  • That's in the back of my mind...waaaaaasy in the back. I can't see it ever actually happening. Maybe if I get injured and have to restrict activity. Even then, I'd just eat smarter to help out. I'm loving everything about the new me, and I ain't going back :) You've got this far with drive and focus. It won't let you go…
  • I had a bit of this. I believe that some people were honestly concerned that I'd develop an eating disorder and told me it was time to stop losing, even though it wasn't. For the most part, though, I get genuinely happy reactions (sometimes stunned ones from people I haven't seen in a long time). I prefer to believe that…
  • Do you have access to a gym? You can sit at most resistance machines so you don't put pressure on the foot. Are exercise bikes an option for you at this point? I've never had a broken foot, so I'm not sure how doable that is. I have played wheelchair basketball before - if you are able to use a wheelchair, it's a decent…
  • I took my wedding ring to get it resized today. It was originally a size 10.5, it is going down to 8.25. I'm looking forward to being able to wear it again :)
  • Have fun, but be smart about it. Enjoy the food, just not ALL of the food. That should be the same at home or on vacay. The resort will probably have some kind of gym, spend some time there. Enjoy- most of us would love to be going :)
  • So jealous! I miss Disney. Fitting comfortably in the rides is so great. I go to a Canadian theme park all the time, and I noticed the difference big time this summer. There were a few rides that the seat belt barely did up last year, but was super loose this year :) Good luck with your goals, and have a blast at Disney!
  • I dropped off four boxes of fat guy clothes off at the thrift store last night. So long, size 40-42 pants and xxl tshirts. I'm comfortably into my 34 waist and medium tshirts now. I was amazed at how big they were when I was sorting them out. It was pretty freeing dropping them off. I also had fun buttoning up an old dress…
  • The extra energy, and being able to wear smaller clothes. From a vanity standpoint - seeing that shocked look on the faces of people that I haven't seen since I lost the weight.
  • I admire your tenacity, but go ahead and buy a shovel. Just tell them your old one broke; there are legit reasons to get shovels during winter :)
  • My sister gave me a nice hoodie for Christmas last year, size XXL. She gave me the same hoodie this year, size medium.
  • Congrats on hitting your goal, that is awesome! Great job :) You don't have to lose focus now, just change focus. Your diet (not dieting) is still super important. So is hopping on the scale - you are just looking to keep the number you have instead of losing. For the most part, you are doing the same thing as before,…
  • Eat at maintenance for a bit and enjoy the holidays in a reasonable way. You can get back to losing in a week or so, not the end of the world. If it is too cold outside, go walk at the mall or walmart if you don't have a gym you can go to.
  • I would find 5-7 days a week of workouts too much. I stick to 3-4 gym days a week. Daily weigh ins, focus on the long term goal, and a doable work out schedule have kept me on track. The results that come with it kept me going as well. Good luck, you can do this :)
  • Don't sweat it. The majority of people aren't thinking about you. Those who are are mostly thinking it's great that you are there. No matter what kind of shape you are in, someone is looking at you and wishing they had made it to where you are now. Some people are thinking about telling you that you are putting out a great…
  • That's great, congrats :)
  • Powering through the 5k I just ran. I started out trying to see how far I'd get. I have a sore throat, and my legs were a bit stiff at the start. I figured I'd stop at a mile...then I was shooting for the halfway point. I kept setting mini distance goals, and eventually got it done. 5ks in general aren't that big a deal…
  • Attagirl! Good stuff, congrats :)
  • Jenny is right. I shared the same nervousness you have when I was heading into that 20 minute run. It felt like such a big jump going to 20 minutes. It felt so weird knowing I'd be doing that, then back down to smaller times. It felt like too much, and that I wouldn't be able to do it. And, when I went ahead and did it, it…
  • Depending on how much you need to lose, you can. I have lost 76.5 since mid-March. It is doable :)
