I have coffee for breakfast.

Actually, I would argue that it is healthIER to eat processed foods (etc) as a part of your diet if doing so keeps you on track. The least healthy thing would be to cut out and eliminate any food that isn't deemed "clean" or "good for you" and then give up. I don't think anyone here is getting the majority of their…

I think people have lost sight of what is important. This is an opportunity to teach a child about rules and how you can follow a rule and think it is silly. But not everything is a hill to die on. Is your child learning? Safe? Happy and healthy? If so then I'd say that giving a granola bar over a Poptart is really the…

My child's school is very specific about not allowing candy, large bags of chips and soda at lunch. They have a snack and it is specified that they are to bring a "small, healthy snack". I personally don't believe that foods are healthy/unhealthy in isolation but I have no problem with the school's policy. The teacher is…

I have Hashi's with associated hypothyroidism. I've had it for about 22 years now. No endocrinologist has ever advised me to cut foods out of my diet or add anything to my diet.

I also have this problem. I read that it often happens to women because we have more "surface area" that cools down than men. Could be total BS. All I know is that I workout indoors and am very hot and sweaty afterwards and then about an hour later I'm freezing and huddling under blankets and wearing multiple layers…

I'm not splurging. NYE and New Year's Day food doesn't really do it for me.

Nah. I burn around 350-400 for a 30-35 minute elliptical workout where I vary the resistance. I don't think I would have the stamina for a 1,000 calorie workout.

The American system is preschool followed by Kindergarten though preschool/Kindergarten are not mandatory in every state. You have grade school (K-5, sometimes K-6), junior high/middle school (usually 6-8) and then high school (9-12). Most people will graduate at the age of 18, though some will be 17 and some 19 because of…

I live in a place originally settled by the Dutch and Germans, some call us Pennsylvania Dutch. We have some very interesting phrases that people who are honest-to-goodness PA Dutch use on the regular: Red up=clean up mox nix=that is irrelevant dippy eggs=over easy eggs kutz=vomit doplich=clumsy rutsching=wiggling around,…

I go there to rest! It is a place I'm allowed to go and lock the door behind me to keep the dog and kids out!

I use MFP to track food. I update my weight in both. I use Fitbit to track calorie expenditure, though I do log actual workouts in MFP as well. I do not have my MFP account and Fitbit account synced because I don't want extra calories for just walking around. I only want extra calories for sustained/intentional cardio…

I'm in the US and I say chocolate bar, garbage and bannister, but not eavestrough. I say soda and not pop. We do have scones here as well. I live in an area that was originally settled by the Germans. Also, I "use the restroom".

I struggle with this and I am certain that it is an issue you are never quite "cured" of. Emotional eating is a poor coping skill. It is something we have learned and so we have to go about un-learning it. Part of that is coming to terms with the underlying problems that are causing you to engage this poor coping skill. Is…

At your weight I believe that seeing a doctor is a great first step to make sure you are healthy enough for physical activity. You don't want to risk an injury and physical activity isn't a requirement for weight loss. Once you are at a more comfortable weight and your joints aren't hurting you with simple movements you…

Low carb isn't "stupid". It is a WOE that is highly beneficial to people with certain medical conditions and yes, it is sustainable. I do agree that going low carb for a "diet" isn't beneficial. It is a WOE, not something that you do to drop pounds and then stop following. If you are serious about going low carb and…

I think the moral of the story is yes, you CAN replace traditional pasta with lower carb alternatives but they might not actually satisfy you. As a pasta-lover myself, sometimes you just need that traditional texture and flavor with your dishes to feel satisfied about it. That is why I don't cut anything out, because that…
-
Not really. You are going to substitute texture or flavor by doing some alternate options. You could try shirataki noodles instead. Even veggie pastas have some amount of carbohydrate content, just not nearly as high as your regular old boxed pastas. Personally I still eat pasta on a low carb diet. I just plan my day…

I like iced tea with meals and hot coffee first thing in the morning. I just like caffeine.

I just got the Fitbit Charge 2 for Christmas. Before that I had the Charge HR. I was comparing my HR on the Fitbit Charge 2 to the reading I was getting from the exercise machine at the gym both yesterday and today and they were within 3 beats of one another at each check. I personally like the Fitbit brand. This is my…

Well firstly I find that artificial sweeteners are MUCH sweeter than sugar, at least to my taste buds. Secondly, sugar won't pack on any pounds unless you are going over your maintenance calories, and even then it isn't specifically the sugar that is packing on the pounds unless that is all you consumed that particular…

I got a $30 set from StarryBay and they work very well. The charge lasts a very long time and the sound quality is great. I don't think you have to spend a ton to get a nice set that meets your needs.

I do cheat meals, not cheat days. My husband and I rarely get to go to my favorite Japanese restaurant and when we get that opportunity (maybe 3 times a year) I don't pay any attention to calories AT ALL. I have it three times a year and I enjoy every bite. I also don't weigh food or count calories on holidays. I also…

I feel your struggle! What I do is to get up and do something (ANYTHING!) to get my mind off of the desire to eat. I'll start some laundry, clean the kitchen, go for a walk, grab the computer and chat with friends on Facebook. The other thing I do is to really be mindful about what it is that I want. Do I want that cookie…

Sent you a friend request. And really I agree so much with being gentle on yourself. Start small, weigh your food, and log consistently. We all started this journey somewhere. Make a promise to yourself. Whenever I feel like grabbing for extra food that isn't within my calorie goals I have to force myself to stop and…

Make it how you like it. Most of the time I don't add any oils to it but I do have one way I make it that my kids love where I brush melted butter on and sprinkle with paprika and cook for a short time at high heat and it is really delicious and succulent.

I had 3 Sunday night. They were freshly baked. I still ate at a deficit with the 3 cookies!

I do eat to my macros because I'm diabetic. I fiddle around with them but I pretty much know what I need to add to my evening snack to get pretty darn close. I don't worry if I'm over or under by a few percent here and there. It's not going to add up perfectly every day. What matters for me is being aware of my carb…

In regards to the endocrinologist discussion--I have an endocrinologist because I happen to have Hashi's AND Diabetes so double whammy right there! Because my antibody test and SED test always come back positive (elevated) my insurance will cover it. I also am treated by my PCP for this issue. I get routine TSH and free T4…

^^^Yes EXACTLY. Taking medication is always a risk-benefit analysis. Fortunately thyroid medications are generally well-tolerated by the general population. There are also other evidence-based options aside from Synthroid in the rare case that a patient has an adverse reaction.
