  • My stretching is post running (ha ha slowly lumbering). My shoes were purchased at a running store where they tried several pair and watched my gait. However, they are about 8mo old and my pinky toes are wearing through. I will wear them into a running store soon so they can see how they have worn and purchase another…
  • SE Florida here. Perfect time of year to start exercising outdoors.
  • I'm working really hard and am up 2 straight weeks in a row for a total of 3.8lbs. I was distraught this morning after my 2lb gain this week. I have so much more to loose. It's just so damned hard, I am sore all the time from cardio & lifting, go to bed and wake up hungry almost every day and that kind of feedback feels…
  • In the 1950s, the Junior League of Baton Rouge started collecting local recipes for a fund raiser publication called "River Road Recipes". Some that I have made have been fantastic. They are diverse and classic recipes from the region. I've heard the released an edition of healthy recipes, but i have yet to read it. Maybe…
  • Uggg, I hate buffets. While you eat that 1st big plate of salad, look around. You don't see too many thin people at buffets. Maybe that will provide some motivation to eat some lean protein & veggies.
  • Bananas are not bad at all. If I am working out in the evening, I will eat one about 45min before my workout for a boost of energy and if I work out earlier in the day, I will eat one right after my workout. There is nothing wrong with burning and eating calories. It's how your body works. Just count them. I have found…
  • My goal is to loose weight and I always heard build muscle to burn more calories at rest. I was lifting 3x per week and doing cardio 2x per week and getting no where. I bought my fitbit blaze right about the time I started MFP. I started looking at calories consumed and calories burned and realized on my cardio days, I was…
  • Good news is you are young and it is easier to loose than when you are older. Start logging your food and alcohol. Don't guess at it. Set your base level of activity which is probably pretty high. Log your exercise here, but only count about 2/3 of the calories it says you burn. Then see where you are every day with how…
  • So, I was just doing some comparing: Yesterday I did 30min cardio at lunch. The workout according to the fitbit was 541 cal and I ended the day with a 1,311 cal add. Monday, I did a the workout above which was 45min intervals on the elliptical for 673 cal and ended the day with an 800 add. Does this mean that the earlier I…
  • Well, I'm fat and push myself doing cardio either doing steady state cardio for 45min with my heart rate in the mid to high 130s or intervals. Fitbit will add 500cal, MFP estimates 950. I'll stick with the fitbit value. I'm not eating them back, but am trying to get the most benefit from my exercise. Edit: I also get ~5500…
  • That's how I'm reading this and burning twice the calories throughout the day may be just enough push to get me out of bed at 0 dark 30... but I love me some sleep.
  • 47.5 down now over 50 down. Still a lot to go.
  • Due to the frustration of time of day, clothing & being notoriously inaccurate, I have stopped weighing myself at the doctor's office. I tell them my weight. I always weigh myself on Friday mornings before I eat, after going to the bathroom, and nude. My scale is very consistent, so I just give them my last known weight.…
  • On Saturdays, I have a routine. Egg beaters & low cal toast for breakfast, get to the gym and do a long cardio burn ~1hr. Stop on the way home and get a egg white & turkey wrap at Firstwatch (sometimes with oatmeal). Then I'm good until dinner time. I've burned more than I've eaten and have an entire day's worth of…
  • Right now, I am doing intervals on the elliptical (45min to 1hr). Seems to be working well. No injuries and I get a good burn.
  • 89 days... and a lot to go.
  • Funny, I was out with my wife last night and she asked why I was walking with my hands in my pockets. It's because I forgot to put a belt on with my shorts and they would have been around my ankles if I did not hold them up.
  • One day I woke up and went to join the local gym. I decided if I'm going to be fat, I'm going to be fat and strong. Now I decided I'm just going to be strong. That is how it starts. Good for you, keep up the work. It pays off in so many ways.
  • I have just lost 40lbs (but overall have much more to lose than you). Since I started MFP, I have all but given up alcohol. I have never eaten added sugar. Otherwise, I eat pretty much anything, but try to keep it home made or very simple restaurant food so I know how to log it. Veggies and lean protein seem to give me the…
  • Depends on what amenities you want, but here we have You Fit (jokingly called You Fat). There are always machines available in good shape and free weights available and 2 people cleaning on the floor at any given time. I have been able to negotiate trainer sessions at $25/per 1/2hr session purchased in bulk & I've been…
  • I really like my Blaze. I like the sleep tracking as well as how it tracks my various workouts. I have never owned another wearable, so I cannot compare them. I don't think it would count steps pushing a mower or grocery cart (but I'm not too step centric). My only real complaint is the HR monitor seems to be somewhat…
  • Just as an update if anyone is interested, I took a day off and felt 50% better more sore than pain. Yesterday evening, I set the elliptical for a 45min program of intervals and stopped at 35min when I started to feel some pain. It was just below and to the inside of my knee. Very sore in one spot. I stretched and went…

  • Brady... bahhh. Probably cheats on his diet like he does in the playoffs. I bet he sneaks fists full of pork rinds and girl scout cookies while he is deflating footballs. Go Fins!
  • In the past 60 days, I have started to think about food differently and as a result don't seem to have as strong urges to eat certain things at certain times. I have also asked questions privately of some on this site who have lost a significant amount of weight and been able to maintain at their goal. One told me that as…
  • All good info. Thanks. I went from 45min intervals on the elliptical 4x per week to c25k. I understand that I over did it in some manner with the c25k, but honestly I started just to switch up my cardio. I now want to just go back to the elliptical so I can continue to burn and lose weight (down 35lbs so far and…

  • I got fitted at a running store where they measured my feet 4 ways and then did a gait analysis. I think the shoes are good. C25k is off my list for now at least until my legs are better, what I really need to know is if it is safe to move to the elliptical or if that will further aggravate my shin splints.

  • I am really liking my blaze. My only complaint is that the HR can get a little wonky during high intensity work outs, but I loosen up the band and wear it a few inches up my wrist and it seems to work well.
  • Ok, tried week 1 day 1 last Weds. Was not sure I would continue and thought I'd try again once I lost some more weight due to some pain. Did it again on Sat and re-considered as I seem to have recovered well. Starting week 1 day 1 today in earnest and will work toward advancing through the program. I've never been a…
  • Don't EVER buy it. Bought some with some calorie free jelly once. Hit the garbage before I could put the lid back on.
  • I went to a running store (I am not a runner) because my feet were sliding around in my shoes while doing the elliptical. I got measured 6 ways and had a gait analysis. I ended up with New Balance. They do not fit like any shoe I would have purchased on my own. They are snug, but move with my feet. They have been working…
