  • In Thailand durian are banned from being carried on public transport and in some hotels. The fruit stinks but I quite like the taste, like fruity custard meets an overripe French cheese (I realise I’m not selling it with that comparison).

  • Like @Azdak I’d be cynical about calorie burn claims. I used to do quite a bit of Nordic walking, including a long distance hike of 102 miles over 5 days with a group (the trail is called the Cotswold Way, in England) and found the main advantage of this technique was being able to walk at greater speeds and taking longer…
  • Great post and REALLY great effort. Well done to you!
  • Who are "they"? Not sure where you are but we have great authentic Indian restaurants in London, even Michelin starred ones. I wouldn't be so presumptuous to think I could make more authentic Indian food at home than a chef trained in Indian cuisine with a genuine tandoori oven. ETA: I think in the 1970s Indian takeaways…
  • I love Indian food however the saucy dishes can be really high in calories. A lot of Indian food is cooked in oil which is partly why it's so tasty. One of the lowest calorie options is chicken shashlik (might be called chicken tikka or something similar) which is chicken pieces marinated in yoghurt and spices and cooked…
  • Probably not the cheapest but if you want something a bit more fashion-based/less generic, H&M sports gear is well designed and durable for the price. I have a great pair of running leggings from there. I find Gap sports gear pricy and not so long lasting. TK Maxx is good for paying less for sports labels such as Nike,…
  • Thank you for posting this, @rybo
  • +1 for this!
  • Yoga is great for stretching, relaxation, breathing, focus, fitness and lots more but for weight loss you need a calorie deficit. It doesn't matter how much yoga or any exercise you do; if you consume more calories than you burn you won't lose a single pound in weight. That's what MFP is all about, counting your calories.…
  • I know it's not always possible but if you can get to a class, at least to start, you'll have a teacher making sure you are doing the poses correctly. As everyone has said, there are some great yoga classes online too. I like Yoga with Adriene on YouTube. She has tons of videos and even very short 7-minute classes if you…

  • "Culturally tone-deaf marketing" is my new favourite phrase. And I agree with you entirely.
  • As noted by these guys the OP is basically unsolicited spam to point to his aforementioned article elsewhere online. That's why it's so cringefully worded.
  • ^^^ This is a good idea, especially as you say you're more interested in not overeating than losing. Personally I find that although travel is a great excuse to try new food, I'm less likely to overeat as I'm more relaxed when on holiday. Travel is also a good time to reflect so a journal or taking notes might be all you…
  • Hello. I've been on MFP for over a year and 7 months in (last November) I took a four week trip to Thailand. I logged as much as I could, such as breakfast which was usually Western style (e.g. Eggs or fruit and yoghurt) plus any beers, coffees etc but for a lot of the time I ate street food and didn't feel like trying to…
  • I do cardio and strength training as well as Pilates and yoga every week. Of all my activities, I find my modest 5k run the most boring but actually that's part of its appeal for me. Running gives me a chance to go outside, disengage and switch off. Also, despite being boring (to me), I love the fact that I can do it and…
  • I don't think it's cheating to do the course. Your motivations and goals are your own so do what's best. In terms of poles, from what I understand of Pen-Y-Fan, I don't think you'll find the Cotswold descents so severe, it's more rolling and the terrain is more forgiving but there are a few lung-busting hills. You could…
  • That looks like a nice challenge. I Nordic walked the entire Cotswold Way a few years ago but over 5 days; there are a few killer hills so if you can get a good bit of hillwalking into your training, it'll make it easier on the day. If you're not already doing long stints in your walking boots, maybe build up to doing a…
  • Well done for getting back out there and not letting it derail you. I also vote for iPod/music/headphones. Sometimes when I'm running I wear the headphones even when I don't have my music turned up as I think it deters idiots from trying to get your attention. Good luck on your journey!
  • Another vote for the C25k programme. It's a great way to build up your running. Good luck!
  • The dried leaves make a brilliant restorative tea. I love 'em.
  • ^^^ What @cwolfman13 said. Tai chi is great for focus but it's gentle so don't count on it for burning calories. Mind you, if it puts you in a better state of mind it might have a positive effect on your eating habits so there could be good outcomes. I practised for a couple of years but am out of the habit now sadly. I'd…

  • See if you can catch the yoga teacher before the lesson for a chat and to flag up that you might need some modifications. If it's a good class, the teacher will usually ask if there are any newbies before the class starts anyway - this gives first timers a chance to say hello and explain any injuries or concerns. Yoga is…
  • Some of us have already answered your question in the other threads you've started about this. MFP should only adjust your calories if you adjust your stats (weight or activity level or amount to lose per week) so I'm not sure how your calories can be changing of their own accord.
  • I'm 5'5" and 165 so close-ish. I recently set mine to a slower loss than previously as I have been losing continually since last May and didn't want to burn out. I have set MFP to lose 1/2 pound per week and MFP has given me 1690 per day.
  • There's a big thread on this in the Food and Nutrition Forum: http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/372359/bring-your-crockpot-slow-cooker-recipes
  • I discovered a great recipe for vegetarian chipotle chilli in the MFP blog a while back. It uses black beans and, to me, is as tasty as a beef chilli: http://blog.myfitnesspal.com/vegetarian-chipotle-chili/
  • Lots of people don't like how regular (i.e. cotton) t-shirts and shirts get soggy and stinky when you sweat so they prefer to wear technical fabrics that don't hold sweat next to your skin. Also, not everyone wants to wear shorts to the gym or when running in winter so they opt for leggings.
  • I read this article on (women's lifestyle website) The Pool recently about exercise gear from UK high street brands. They tend to extend their ranges into larger sizes so it might be reading for ideas: https://www.the-pool.com/fashion/shopping/2017/7/the-pool-tries-high-street-gym-gear
  • +1 for balsamic vinegar.
