So sorry to hear of all the troubles in Texas. It sounds brutal. Of course our Canadian solutions are not going to help for your (hopefully) one-off situation. But we Canadians do have to find ways to exercise in spite of icy roads and snow piles and low temperatures. We can get snow tires for our bikes and chains for our…

I think that would mean if it says 1/4 cup (45 g) is 170 calories and I put in 1 cup of uncooked, then 1/4 of whatever I end up with should be 170?

I never really realized what sugar binges were doing to me until I developed habits of moderation. I just thought it was normal to feel “crashed” much of the time. Once in a while I still pig out on candies and it makes me very aware of why I’m glad not to be doing that any more.

I have noticed that there is something very strangely joyous about being self destructive for me. My reflections have not got to the bottom of why yet, but I have definitely noticed that when I am pigging out on too much of something, there is something within that is saying, “you’re not even enjoying the taste of that…

OP you have made me reflect about hunger 😊. One of the things I have enjoyed about MFP lifestyle is that I no longer have the wild swings of being “hangry” or stuffing myself and feeling gross. My sugar intake is more controlled and reasonable and my food intake is intentional. . I also enjoy the hunger that appears before…

I started off by just logging what I ate for a few weeks without trying to limit anything. It was very informative and helped to build some understanding of what my plan could be. It was easier for me to make baby steps than to turn my whole life upside down with new foods and habits.

Started in 2016. I was a slow loser and lost 40 pounds over 2 years. Maintained for 2 years. In 2020, due to a big vacation and then pandemic and then some major health problems that prevented exercise, I regained about 6 pounds and this year my goal is to lose that plus 6 more. I will log for the rest of my life.

I started a workout routine at the beginning of December. I was losing inches but not weight until suddenly this week I dropped 5 pounds overnight. Patience is a virtue I guess.

“Also, for some reason i feel this thread is going to be a guys only thread.” Hate to break it to you but girls fart and poop!

Haha. Definitely tmi but yes that used to be a very satisfying feeling. ☺️

I don’t bring much junk food in the house. I have a low calorie snack that I really enjoy ( fudgesicle 80 cal). I have my workout area just across the hall from my bedroom and I workout in my pjs so all I have to do is stumble over there in the morning. I set up my laptop and water bottle the night before so I have no…

I weigh the fruit and subtract about 25% and that’s close enough for me. I don’t want to haul peels home from work

“ I am fairly sure that much of that was water weight. At 120 lbs overweight, 22 lbs in 3 weeks doesn't surprise me at all. I would expect that to reduce to 1 or 2 lbs a week after that.” That would be like 40 cups of water? 😬

I’m slightly older but also started out being 5 ft 2 1/2 (gotta count that 1/2 inch!)and 175 pounds and has lost 40 pounds. I took a different approach than what you are talking about. It took me about 2 years to lose the 40. I think it was about 25 the first year and 15 the second. The reason I did it this way was because…

22 pounds in 3 weeks! That does not sound healthy to me at all. I hope you have doctor's supervision for that kind of extreme loss.

One of the most fascinating things about weight loss is what goes on in my mind. How is it even possible that ME and ME are having an argument with each other about whether to eat that or whether to get up and go for a walk??? Sometimes self talk is enough to get me out of that - Enough of that sass. Don’t you talk back to…

My theory is that if it’s something I enjoy doing and if it doesn’t cause too much disruption in my life, I’m all for it. So for me, cycling to work, walking with my partner in the evenings, hiking, yoga, kayaking, and then a few classes thrown in here and there to make sure I cover all the muscle groups.

A lot of people think losing weight and getting healthy are the same thing and they are not. Technically you can lose weight eating only spoonfuls of sugar, as long as you didn’t go over your calorie limit. But you wouldn’t be healthy at all. The nice thing about veggies is that they fill you up. Two cups of veggies would…

I like that article. It articulates the positives that I am looking for as a middle aged woman not really interested in weight lifting. I like the cardio, the sense of building some muscle and the energy / music of it. It’s a fun workout. I do find the Les Mills weights are ridiculously expensive. There are cheaper…

I deliberately took a long slow approach to losing the weight - 40 pounds over 2 years. That way the changes would not be overly drastic and would be sustainable. Also, by the end of two years the new behaviour was very ingrained and normalized and it didn’t really occur to me to return to bad habits.

In 2016 I was in a similar spot to what you’re describing. I started that year off by making a commitment to myself to figure out what a healthier happier me would look like. One thing I decided to do was to start tracking everything I ate and all the exercise I did for one year. I set the year goal so that I wouldn’t be…

I do the body flow regularly and want to do body pump but it is proving rather difficult to buy the weights! I guess everyone has the same idea about working out at home.

I add up the calories of all the ingredients. Weigh the baked loaf. 1 gram = 1 serving. Weigh each slice and enter how many servings (grams)

I lost almost 40 pounds over two years. I have no interest in deprivation and I figure it took me about 50 years to get here. it makes sense to take a few years to reverse it. I initially committed to a lifestyle change for one year and would assess what I had achieved at the end of the year. I still did weigh myself, but…

Fudgesicles, good thins crackers with lite laughing cow cheese, 0 fat Greek yogurt with berries, clementines

It made a world of difference to me! You have to be 100% honest though.

Oh and one more - make sure you build some snacks into your day and when it time to eat them, pay close attention and savour them fully. There is a whole new level of joy that comes with snacks when you are “allowed” and not just shovelling into your mouth mindlessly

My strategies are pretty much listed already I think 1. Don’t have it in house 2. Drink enough water 3. Have something to do that keeps your hands / brain occupied especially while you’re watching tv 4. Log every bite even (especially) when you are going over for the day 5. Have grace for the occasional blow out and make…
