I've been training this winter for an obstacle course that's held near to me in Cornwall, it's similar idea to TM but it's a 12k course with 30 obstacles (and no electric shocks lol). I've gradually increased my running up to 10k trail runs (I do all my running on the coastal path as I live by the sea), and add in 2…

If you want to add more variety into your chilli try this: Add red lentils (helps thicken it and adds more protein to the meal) Add mixed beans, I use 3-4 varieties in my chilli mixes I also add finely diced: mushrooms, carrots celery to the onion along with lots of garlic. I am veggie and don't like most veggie minces so…

I've not got one at the moment but I've been looking at the moov now device as it does swimming, running and cycling. Nothing out there does surfing with other exercises and as I mostly do swim and run I think it's a good fit for me, but wouldn't be useful for anyone wanting pedometer type tracking. I like the swim length…

Thanks :) I have looked at various different programmes but many seem to need all the kit your mention in the 5*5. I like the idea and simplicity of that workout but I'll never be able to justify the money or space for all that kit. Second hand would be great and I'll keep my eyes out for stuff, we live right on the end of…

Yes it definitely does. I often run or swim with a friend and she gets more from doing the same as me as she's a bit heavier :)

Thanks OP I'm going to try this as I often cook brown rice alongside other things in the oven so it saves having the hob on at the same time. I've oven cooked brown rice risotto but never thought about just doing plain brown rice. What type of brown rice are your cooking times based on? I'm assuming shortgrain since you…

I cook a lot of short grain brown rice and it does take a min of 45 minutes for me to cook. Brown basmati / long grain is faster but the shortgrain stuff takes ages to cook! Brown basmati rice often cooks in 25-30 minutes so I use that when I don;t have time ot wait for the shortgrain to cook (plus my kids prefer the…

I definitely get more hungry after a workout - not always the same day but definitely the next day! Whereas before logging my food and making sure I am eating enough aswell (as exercising regularly), I could happily go until 11am before eating, my body now wants feeding much earlier. I wouldn't worry about your protein…

I live in Cornwall, UK. It's currently about 9-10 degrees in the water, gets up to maybe 19 if we're lucky in the summer. So it's wetsuit all year round here. I use thermal rash vest, 4/3mm wetsuit, gloves and boots in winter. My 5/3 wetsuit leaks too badly to use anymore. I just avoid really windy days as the wind cools…

Books booja is so nice! Wish I could justify buying it as it's so pricey! Definitely my favourite!

That's very true:) I much prefer being out rather than inside on a treadmill, although it's been so stormy down here this winter that I've not had much chance to hit the trails! Didn't fancy being blown into the sea with the gale force winds lol I'm definitely going to start doing some weighted sessions. First need…

Thanks for the advice :) I'd probably do squats some time after a run, would that be OK? So run in morning, squat in evening? Having said that, I've only got 2*2kg dumbbells so it's not exactly going be to very weighted at the moment :) trying to find some heavier ones at a reasonable price! I've got to be careful with my…

We don't get in the surf as much in the winter so go swimming a lot more instead. This winter we've also been going to circuit training. I have only surfed a few times so far this year (it's flat at the moment  ) due to being so busy with other things when it's actually been OK size waves and not too windy (we've…

Ditto. Circuit training likely covers it :)

Thanks for this, really great to hear someone who's been there and done this:) I was thinking of adding a couple of weights days into my routine but in addition to the other stuff, on one of my easy cardio days (swim or run). I've never used kettlebells! I've got some 2kg dumbbells but they don't feel that heavy so is that…

Surfing is great exercise and it's so much fun! Flat this week so will be swimming and running mostly. The swimming is great for keeping up paddle fitness for surfing. I don't really go to the gym as I don't really get time around family, we're out in the sticks here so nearest gym is 25 min drive. I could swap my swimming…

Thanks, I've only got 2kg dumbbells so will have to be mostly bodyweight stuff I guess for now. Most things I can see online are for barbell workouts! Any recommendation on exercises to do? I'm only just hitting my protein target at the moment despite trying my best! Constantly feel full from eating so much more than I'm…

I drink regular tea with soya milk first thing in the morning. Water with fresh lemon or lime or apple juice with water or jasmine tea in the day. Chamomile tea at night :) Fresh mint tea in the summer!
-
Yum fresh mint tea is amazing. You've reminded me I need to plant some more peppermint!

I not been basing it on pace - more on how much effort I'm putting in. If I'm doing sprints then I'll put it in at fast, but if I'm doing distance then I just put in as moderate. I'm not sure if this is what is intended though... Also it doesn't really take into account breaks, if I'm doing sprints then I'd do say 2…

Mine's real - my daughter took it as part of her photography project lol

The circuit training I go to is a variety of bodyweight exercises, cardio and weight / resistance band exercises. The exercises vary every session, Mondays session had no weights at all, we did (hope I get the names right!): 8 mat exercises: hi low plank, burpees, seated crunch, leopard crawl, mountain climber, press ups,…

Thanks for the advice :) Unfortunately I don't have a treadmill- all my runs are outside, I do run trails though and running along the coastal path to Lands End there are some killer hills / steps! I could run up and down the stairs but I think this would rather rapidly get boring lol! Maybe add in some squats after a run?…

Thanks both, I've been experimenting over the last week with things and have managed to boost my protein intake most days - but it does tend to send my calorie intake over the recommendation, I'm not massively fussed about that though as fat and sugar is generally under the recommendation which I think is probably more…

I serve it with: baked sweet potatoes; quinoa & roasted veg; mixed beans & sausage casserole; with salad... Never tried it in a sweet version!

I have had a very similar thing - I'm also vegetarian (but have been for 18 years!) and have found that my nails haven't been that great and I do tend to shed a lot of hair when I wash it! I was eating almost vegan as my daughter went vegan last year. I signed up for MFP to help track the amount of protein I'm eating and…
-
I swim regularly and yes it does take me a while to wash my hair after (its almost waist length), I wrap it in a towel when getting dressed then sort parting and pop it up on my head using hair spirals (stops the headaches from having hair tied back!) where it stays out of the way :) I have to wash it as I hate the smell…

I've been veggie (with minimal dairy) for years and the last year has been mostly vegan as my daughter decided she wanted to be vegan instead of veggie and it's easier cooking for all of us. However I've been really struggling with getting enough protein into my diet to keep my body gaining strength, so I've been adding…
