Just curious, do you think the calorie counts for exercise take your body weight into account?

I know that everyone says these are just estimates and to not take them as gospel truth. I don't. I don't eat all the calories MFP tells me I burned, back. I'm not having trouble with weight loss, no worries.

I'm just curious if the estimates take one's body weight into account at all. Saying that a 120 pound person burns the same number of calories walking 3.5 mph for 60 minutes as a 320 pound person burns doing the same, would be ridiculous.

There's an extremely easy way to test this. Go to the Exercise section and log an exercise at your current weight. Then change your weight by 10 or 20 or whatever number of pounds you want. Then go to the Exercise section and log the same exercise for the same amount of time. Look at the two results and compare them.

Yes it does take your weight into account.
Which isn't always appropriate of course......

I'm lighter but can produce more power when cycling so burns are higher.
I'm lighter but stronger so lift more weight during my strength training.

They certainly do on Mapmyrun, I put in that I was one pound heavier and it estimated 4 more calories burned in the same time/distance.

    What he said.

Calorie burn is predominantly calculated on the basis of total body weight x intensity x duration.

Without body weight factored in you won't get near a reasonable estimate.

Yes it definitely does. I often run or swim with a friend and she gets more from doing the same as me as she's a bit heavier :)
