"Although 42% of the respondents found the ADA guidelines helpful, 30% were unfamiliar with them." I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.

I'm loving this thread. Keep those tips coming!

So glad you found your way here. Don't hesitate to ask questions; we're all here to support each other in reaching our health goals.

"Do I look brain dead to you?" Bwaaaahahahah!

Those links are very helpful! After reading them (a week or two ago in response to a different thread?) I got some L-Glutamine, and it does take the edge off the sugar cravings for me. I'm taking one every morning, one in the afternoon when the cravings hit, and another in the evening.

I'd say follow your hunger cues. If the 1200 calories per days is satisfying you, you have energy, and you're feeling good, then don't worry about it. If you get hungry or your energy dips, then eat more. As Karlottap pointed out, the weight loss will slow and stabilize at some point. Your body knows what it needs.

Thanks for posting the link @nvmomketo . LOVE Amy Berger's stuff!

A good article. The graphic alone is worth the click. Nacho cheese 2% - LMAO!

Can you put stacks of books under the desk legs to raise it? Just sayin'. . . I got a standing desk at work a few months ago, and it is wonderful. Of course, I had to buy better shoes now that I'm standing 8-9 hours a day instead of sitting. Shoe shopping, such a sacrifice!

What has been your experience? Were you using it to curb cravings? How soon did you notice results? And do you know what effect, if any, it had on your insulin levels?
-
You beat me to it @KnitOrMiss. Thanks! And the whole purpose of this particular thread was to pick y'alls brains about taking the gymnema. It sounds like the consensus is "no." Thanks for the other supplement recommendations, too, @Dragonwolf and @KnitOrMiss. I will do some reading up on those.

You know it! In the meantime, hand me some of that Zoodle Pad Thai!!

Thanks @storygirl65 for the screen shot. I'm T2D, so I'm wondering if I'm insulin resistant, since that seems to be par for the course for most T2Ds. I don't know if my fasting insulin level is indicative of insulin resistance or not, so I'm looking to all the folks here who are smarter than me to help me figure this out.…

The fasting insulin result was 22.5. I'm not sure what to make of that. It's high, but still in the "normal" range. Any thoughts before I have my follow up appointment?

I tried to find a vegan keto meal plan. My daughter-in-law, who is vegan, sent me links to various vegan "keto" meal plan websites. Invariably, each meal had more carbs in it than I wanted in an entire day. Most of the meals had 35-50 carbs, and they advocated three meals per day with a couple of snacks (another 30-50…

There, I fixed it for ya.

Thanks for the link @GaleHawkins. I'm waiting for the results of my CAC (ordered by the functional medicine doctor I saw last week), and now I know what results are good and what's a bad range! I think I'll send that link to my primary care physician, since she's been urging me to take statins for the past year,…

So your doctor never considered you might be lactose intolerant? Geez, I'd be looking for a new doctor. I'm glad you were able to figure out for yourself how to eliminate the problem without having to take extra fiber and a laxative every day!

If you have a Trader Joe's in your area, they have a good soy protein powder. It's vegan, and I think the vanilla tastes great. I have not tried the chocolate yet.
-
That makes sense, @cstehansen. One of the tests the new doc ordered was a fasting insulin (my prior doctor wasn't interested in it), so I'm eager to see what the result of that is. I will hold off getting any gymnema until I see those results. Thanks for the suggestion!

I've seen a lot of "Forks Over Knives" de-bunked, too. Nobody can get it 100% right, it seems. :D

This is a prevalent strategy in the recovering community, otherwise known as "One Day at a Time." My stretch goal for July is to avoid all refined sugar. After great success in May with the "Meativore May" challenge, life smacked me upside the head with some huge stressors, and I responded by diving into a vat of…

I watched the documentaries "Cowspiracy" and "Forks Over Knives" with my son and his wife. Both of the films convinced me that the vegan lifestyle is commendable for those who can do it and remain healthy. I applaud my son and his wife for choosing to continue on that path for the health, moral and environmental reasons.…

I second what @RalfLott said about being informed. Be sure to read up on electrolytes and the "keto flu" so you can avoid feeling like something the cat dragged in. Good luck to you on your road to optimal health!

Yes! Another Amy Berger fan here.

This is the one I got, and I absolutely love it! Easy to use, dishwasher safe, and makes three different cuts of noodles. My favorite ways to eat zoodles are with keto alfredo sauce (tossed with bacon), or with Thai peanut sauce (stir-fried with snow peas, mushrooms, and chicken).

Pictures, or it didn't happen! ;)
