Name Brand Glucophage?
My doctor prescribed the name brand Glucophage for me on Monday, since I don't tolerate the generic Metformin very well. My pharmacy just called to tell me that the manufacturer has discontinued Glucophage. WTF? I tried Googling it to see if there was any news about Merck discontinuing Glucophage, but can't find anything.…

Human Carnivore Study
In case anyone is interested, there's a study that's about to begin on the carnivore diet in humans, and they are still accepting participants. http://nequalsmany.com/hello-world/ It's not a scientific study, and the results will all be self-reported. Still, it looks like an interesting experiment. They have over 300…

Gymnema Sylvestre - Has anyone tried it?
I saw a Functional Medicine doctor last week (yay!) and one of her suggestions was to use gymnema sylvestre to try to curb sugar cravings. The interwebz, of course, have lots of info on the stuff, but I was wondering if anyone in this group has any personal experience. A couple articles I found:…

A Bit of Whining
So. . . I went through an incredibly stressful few months, home life completely disrupted, and no access to a kitchen. I started out trying to maintain healthy eating, but it became more and more difficult as time went on. "Is Down Under's DAA Really in Bed with Big Food?"
Here's an interesting indictment of the Dietitians Association of Australia. Turns out the U.S. is not the only country whose health officials are heavily influenced by the processed food industry. http://foodmed.net/2017/01/23/daa-bed-big-food-low-fat-paleo-lchf/

Ranking of Sweeteners - Best to Worst
I came across this article, and found it enlightening. It's not looking at carb content, but it does explain the good, the bad, and the ugly about a lot of sweeteners. http://well.org/nutrition/sugar-alternatives-ranked-best-to-worst/?inf_contact_key=69677ed98a6478333755d8514ab5a6d47ec09d61ccaca5fedaf5a15bc4f20480

Eliminating Nightshades?
I was poking around Pedram Shojai's website (The Urban Monk) and his "7 Day reboot" program. One of the things he recommends doing is eliminating nightshades for the 7 days (up to a few weeks). Apparently, they can cause inflammation in some folks, and those people benefit from avoiding them. Has anyone here had experience…

Claims About Benefits & Harms of Statins are Not Evidence-Based
Dr. Aseem Malhotra being interviewed by SkyNews: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuhW4e-Ych0&feature=youtu.be I think the most disturbing part of this interview is where he says that up to 29% of patients who take statins have adverse side effects, but the official literature says it is around 1%.

Thoughts on Kombucha?
My son makes his own, so I have a never-ending supply if I want it. When he puts fresh ginger in a batch, I just want to guzzle a gallon! Effects of LCHF on Kidney Function?
My co-worker's husband is T2D. He went to a nutritionist last week, who told him he should try a vegan diet. I gave my…

I see people post things like, "I ate [high carb food] and it threw me out of ketosis." Or, "I'm back in ketosis now." How can you tell? I'm still very new to LCHF, so I doubt I'll be in ketosis soon, but am curious what to expect and what to look for.
